The Value of Christmas

It was Christmas Eve and the sun was beginning to set. The snow fell freshly on the plains of Hyrule. It was pure white and it seemed to glisten in the sun, although the sun was blinding, the snow did not melt. The figure of someone walking along the path was seen. It was a young boy, about ten years old; he wore a green tunic and a matching hat and scarf. The snow was halfway up his tiny legs. As he trudged through the snow, his tiny body couldn't handle the pressure of the snow, so he kept falling over. His hands felt as though they were burning, but only with the bitter cold. His name was Link, he had unruly dark blonde hair and glistening cerulean eyes. He was on his way to the castle from where he lived in the Kokiri forest to see the Princess Zelda of Hyrule. His teeth were chattering against each other and he was so tired by the time he reached the castle. He reached the gates, looked up and then looked at one of the guards; Link yawned.

"Hey there, Link!" yelled the guard rubbing himself to keep warm, "ain't ya cold wearin' only that?"

Link nodded a `no' and looked up at the big gates. The guard smiled and opened the gates for the small boy. He walked his fastest up to the drawbridge, walked across and the doors opened for him. As he stepped inside, he saw and intricate design on some of the ancient tapestries of times of which Link did not know of. He turned his head toward a bench that slept in the entrance hall, a young girl in a dove white dress, she had a huge smile on her pretty face. Her golden hair flowed freely down her back and her tiara sat perfectly on her small head. This was Zelda. She stood up and walked slowly over to Link.

"Wh-what did-you want me for, and at this time?" Link asked her staring into her violet eyes.

Her smile only got wider; she slipped her hand from her back and lifted it above both her and Link's head. Link cautiously looked up and saw some mistletoe. Link gulped hard, but then smiled slightly.

"Merry Christmas, Link," Zelda beamed.

Link kissed Zelda slightly on her lips and when he broke the innocent kiss off, he stared at the floor with embarrassment. Zelda lifted his head up and handed him a tiny little box that laid on a side-table. Link smiled as she handed it to him. Inside was a tiny little Christmas tree candle that smelled of sweet peaches. Link felt guilty for not getting Zelda anything.

"But Zelda I didn't get you anything," Link said shyly.

"Christmas isn't about presents," Zelda said to Link with her arm around his shoulder, "The value of Christmas is just to be with the people you love and care about; like family and friends, that is why I wanted you to come over here for Christmas."

Link looked into Zelda mischievous eyes but then realized that she was serious. Oblivious to anything, both children were now in the meeting hall. There stood a great big Christmas tree with lights and baubles placed on it, and at the top, centre of attention, was a star. Zelda and Link both sat on a colossal size rug that was situated in front of a big stone fire that was cozy warm.

"Link, I think we'll have the best Christmas every this year," Zelda beamed as she was half asleep.

"Merry Christmas, Zelda," Link smiled putting his small arms around Zelda.

"Merry Christmas, too, Link," she replies, almost in a whisper, falling asleep on her friend's chest.
