Through Hell of demons, and Heaven of angels.
Prologue
It was the end of the 17th century, if my memory serves me correctly, when I was first introduced to the life of a mystic blood. I am one of the few who have made it this far through the millennia. I am not the ordinary human you might find on the street. I once was, but things have changed me. There is a history behind me that most would never even fathom. You know the stories of were wolves, vampires, witches, sages, etcetera, etcetera, but that is only the tip of the iceberg. There are also shape shifters, celestials, demons, and a few half breeds who are basically human mutts of two or more of the species bled together by their methods of changing, but normally weaker than the others of either side. In an extremely rare case, there were those who gained the powers of their changers, and even rarer that the powers amplified each other tenfold. But in both cases, the person was looked down upon. The mixing of the bloods was highly irregular, and was not something the bloods took too kindly to. I was one of these cases.
I remember that the were wolves, or as they liked to call themselves, the Kanisades, were always the most powerful, but yet lowest regarded of all the bloods of the races. They were the first to get their hands on me, changing me almost on the day of my birth, but off by a week to the second. Although the powers of the Kanisade blood were strong, there was always conflict with the others that nearly drove them- and me- to extinction.
But the nobles of that blood would never allow it. They would have their men and women and children stand and fight to their last breath before letting the other bloods overrun and conquer them. I was not a noble of the Kanisades. Hell, I was barely regarded as anything. I was an impure creature, tainted by the bloods of the other races. But most of all, I was a human that was changed. My life was lived in solitude, and loneliness. Sure, I knew of the conflicts that had raged in the bloods since the dawn of time. The wars were eternal, as far as any of the bloods could tell. They never kept records of their histories. It would make it too easy for the humans to find us. However, there were a rare few who welcomed humans to their kind. But the fact was that the bloods would base their beliefs on legends, and on the words of the elders. No one knew the truth at this point. It was just one fight after another. I was disgusted by it. If they were so high and mighty, why did they bother to lower themselves to the status of such primitive savages? Why did they engage in such meaningless carnage and bloodshed?
It was, apparently, not my place to know the answers. But it was also not my place to sit back and watch the bloods spill in such reckless and arrogant ways, for equally dim-witted, brainless, and otherwise plain idiotic reasons. I was not a coward; when needed I snuck on the battlefields and aided the soldiers of the Kanisade blood. Few of them knew me, but they were all grateful for my assistance. As I said, I was one of the few cases that had the power of several bloods mixed together and amplified. I was extremely lethal, and helpful, when needed.
But I was not one to support war. I was willing to give anything and everything to end this senseless slaughter and massacre- including my own life.
Chapter One
I was in a black room, the lights completely gone except for a pillar of illumination that fell on what looked like a crib. I wanted to walk over to the crib to see who was in it, but I already knew. It was me. I was having the same dream I had had since I was first changed. I watched the baby boy in the wood structure, the tall bars reminding me of a prison, preventing his escape from such a horrible fate. From the other end of the room, I heard a low, guttural growling. It was the werewolf. I tried to cry out, tried to summon the child's parents, but it wouldn't make any difference. They had been sucked dry by the werewolf droids that had followed their leader.
But when the wolf had stood on his rear legs and placed his front paws on the crib to look into it, he found a pair of green eyes staring back at him. He was immediately sent into a panic. No human was allowed to see one of the bloods and live. But the wolf couldn't bare the thought of murdering this poor, defenseless child in his wooden cage. Instead he called to the droids and told them to bring the baby to the council elders. They would deal with the human as they saw fit. Just as the wolves grabbed hold of the human with their teeth, I was awoken by a soft sound.
“Kio, it's time to get up.” Came a light, cooing female voice. I awoke slowly, looking up from my pillow to see Jessica, my minor by three hundred years. It took me a while to realize where I was, but I remembered that I was in the house of the Zokriah family, the pack that had taken me in. They were one family that were not necessarily big on the idea of having a human multi-breed mingle in their house, but they treated me well. Their three daughters, Jessica the oldest, Kaylee the middle, and Amelia the youngest, however, were something else. They always teased me, and just basically were royal pains. Most of the time. But Drenik and Felecia Zokriah, the Doun Ahrko, and Doun Reiha, which meant Male and Female leaders of the family, were kind and sympathetic to me. They also scolded the girls when they were rude or disrespectful to me. I was older than them, and deserved the respect of one in such a place. To them, I was almost like their pack leader, or second in command. And sometimes, not so rarely, the three sisters were nice to me.
I had to admit, I didn't like Reiha Zokriah's methods of punishment. They were too hard and cruel. But what was happening at the moment was nothing worth reporting. “You are half an hour late, Kio. With all due respect, you really need to start to learn to get up earlier, or get to sleep earlier.” Jessica chided. She had a point. Most of the time I was awake on my laptop at night, trying to find others like me: multi breeds, or others who wanted peace.
Even in cyberspace, we operated on a secure network to prevent further human orientation. It worked for the most part. Every once and a while a human wormed his way through the firewalls and into the main network, but they just went along with the whole werewolf and supernatural thing. You'd be surprised how many humans pretend to be half-breeds. They have a word for it, several actually, like Anthro- something something, or more commonly, “Furryism”. But most of the humans who were into it were, as they say, “Fags”. They were only interested in meeting a female or male Kanisade, and have cyber mating sessions with them. Completely disgusting. But that was not the topic of which Jessie wanted to discuss with me.
“What am I late for?” I asked, rather annoyed at the early rising. I looked over to the digital clock on the table next to my bed, and saw it was six o' clock in the morning. “You better have a good reason for awaking me so early.” Jessica was always a little big headed, and took her ego too far, but when it came to me, she just was a little timid. It was mainly the other two who were the pests. But she was kind to me for the most part. I guess she was one of the few who understood and respected my power and abilities. She also was very beautiful. One of the most attractive females I have seen in any pack. She had beautiful blue eyes, dark brown hair that flowed down to her shoulders, light, creamy pale skin, simply gorgeous.
“Today is the day that me and my sisters are getting She`Cronized.” She`Cronizining was the Kanisades `Right of passage', as it were. It always occurred early in the morning, and the one who was passing was required to have their first unsupervised hunt. I was NOT a supporter of this.
“What!?” I jumped out of bed so fast, Jessica was still staring at where I was laying when I looked back at her. “Do you know what they make you do there!?” she whirled around, scared by my new speed, but calmed down and nodded.
“I'm aware. And I'm looking forward to it.” She responded. All I could do was sigh and rub my head, my trademark indication of frustration, yet surrender.
“Aright. Im going to talk with Arhko Felecia about this.”
“Kio, how many times has she asked you to call her `Mother'?”
This angered me. I wanted to shout out at her “Well if you were fostered by the same thing that sucked your mother dry and left her dieing, you wouldn't bee so keep on calling her `Mother', now would you?” but it was an old speech, and I ussualy started something bad by it, so I kept it to myself. “At least once more.” I said instead.
Jessica sighed and left for me to get dressed. I put on the most rugged clothes I could find. I was not about to let those three go out on their own. Not at this stage. They were too you, too weak. And if all that I had heard about was correct, they were going to be hunting right in the heart of Demon Ruled land. And the ruling demon was one most fierce. He went by the name of Lucifer. However, most called him Cifer. I called him Lucy, but I had never seen him before. He was very old, and very powerful. NOT what I wanted the three girls to get themselves into, even if they were mostly annoying to me. They were the closest thing to a family I had.
When I finished dressing, I went to Felecia's room, and knocked on the door. I knew she wouldn't open it, but it was worth a shot. “Madam Felecia? May I speak with you?”
“Kio? Is that you? Oh, by all means, come in. I actually wanted to talk to you too.” She called. As the door opened, I walked into the large master bedroom of the house. The room was painted golden yellow, with light red wallpaper on the top half, separated by molding, gold on the bottom half. There was a large bed in the far left corner, a walk in closet on the right, and another door that I had no idea what was behind. And there was Felecia, in a stunning gold and red dress, with some rather expensive gold and red jewelry. It was not hard to figure out that the family colors were red and gold. The family color was a system, similar to a code of arms for figuring out who was who. When the girls went out on their She`Cronize Hunt, they would no doubt be marked with those colors.
“Lady Felecia, I wanted to talk to you about the girls and their hunt this morning.” I said, making sure to keep my eyes on the floor.
“Yeah, I wanted to talk about the same thing with you, but you first.” She responded.
“I have doubts about the land you are sending them into, ma'am. That land is-“ But she put her hand up to stop me.
“Kio, please, call me Mother, or mom, or Ma, something like that. Not ma'am, or miss, or Lady Felecia, please.”
I sighed and rubbed my head again. “Mother… I just wanted to say that the land you are sending them into is Lucifer's land. The demons that inhabit those lands will make a meal of the girls in three seconds. I can't let you send them there.” She stood and listened, then when I was done, she nodded and walked over to a large desk with a large mirror on it that I had not noticed before, and started to pull out some makeup supplies, touching up her face.
“I am aware. That is what I wanted to talk to you about. I want you to go with them.” This was not a huge shock, I was hoping to sway her from the idea of the lands, or at least let me tag along. The real shock was the fact that she was thinking the same thing. She then got up and stood before me, tilting my head up to look at her. “I don't think you could kill Lucifer himself, but I know that you have more than enough capabilities to hold your own in a fight with the girls at your side.”
She then gave me a hug and a kiss on the forehead. “I believe in you. I could tell from the day we brought you in that you had a power, a flame inside of you, and that it could overcome all others.” I had heard this before. Despite the fact that I was supposedly the most disgraceful thing a family could have, this one loved me as much as any family would love a son.
“thanks Ma'a-… I mean Ma.” I smiles and bowed to her in respect. As far as the hunt was going to go, I was sure that something bad was going to happen. But I didn't know what. I found the girls, Jess in similar clothes as me, Kaylee in a little less tough looking attire, and Amelia in almost a princess outfit, looking as pretty as a diamond in a gold band. I thought it was the COMPLETELY wrong type of thing to wear to such an occasion. You see, before they shifted to their wolf form those passing had to be completely naked in front of the council to receive the family markings, and then shift for the hunt.
“Amelia, how many times have I told you, you need to were something that's easy to take off?” Said a more stronger, burly male voice. It was Drenik, who came from behind us. He was in a fancy gold and red tuxedo, with a rose pin on his sports jacket. He looked at me, then at Felecia, who nodded and smiled, placing her hand on my shoulder. Drenik smiled and nodded, patting my back. “Keep those girls safe for us.” He whispered in my ear. I nodded and went to stand with them.
We assembled ourselves into the family van and were at the ceremonial temple in no time. Or at least it seemed like no time to me. It would to you too if you were carrying three girls lives on your shoulders in the hours to come. And unknown to me at the time, the next few hours would be only the start of my worst nightmares.
