He wanders while she waits. Tied by three words, `I'll come back', but she soon gets tired of waiting and sets sail across the open sea. On her journey she finds the unexpected: A book that tells her the past, present and future of the Keyblade Master.

{[Spoilers]}

Well...we've all played, or heard of, Kingdom Hearts and let's just say I'm a little obsessed. Anywhos I can't think of any spoilers for this story…

Disclaimer

I don't own the characters, Square-Enix/Squaresoft and Disney Interactive do. Sadly if I do say so myself. But if I did own them, I probably would be a zillionaire living on Destiny Island with Sora but until then, I'm going to be some preppy freak that goes to middle school.

Author's Note

Well I wrote this story on fanfiction[dot]com and it was pretty popular so I'm going to give this a try on this website. Also another thing, why do people make Riku gay? In my opinion I kinda got the impression that he was "Mr. Smooth" with Kairi. For example, remember that scene in the beginning when Riku is "thanking" Kairi for coming to the island so he can have these philosophical rantings? Even Sora was rolling his eyes like "here goes master pimp." Lol by the way did you guys notice Sora's mackdaddy look; him looking all ghetto fabulous with those flaming red shorts, big yellow shows and a huge ass crown chain? ROTFL ok sorry didn't mean to reminiscince folks...Let's see did I leave anything out? Um… just please review!

Chapter One

Different Paths

.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.

Her gaze was only upon a tiny photo frame. Which to you must seem worthless, but the picture inside the frame was all that mattered to her now days. It was a picture of her best friends, now and forever; Sora and Riku.

Sora with his chocolate brown hair; messy as always. His trademark grin bigger then ever as he does his best Elvis impression. Riku with his silver hair glistening from the sun's warm rays, actually smiling; but is soon dissolving as he realizes that there is proof of him actually smiling in pictures. Her, you ask? She's the one taking the picture.

She sighed as she put the dusty photo frame back on my nightstand. The poor photo frame is older then imangined, surviving against the odds; so why won't she just use a better, newer frame? Riku and Sora gave it to her four years ago. They saved all their money for a 20 dollar frame that was made out of wood with Paupo fruit carvings in it. Sigh, if only it could go back to those days, the good days.

After a few more moments of remembering the memory of the photo and Riku's silly promise of getting her back if she didn't burn the photo, she pulled the covers off of her cold body and threw them to the floor. Her hands rubbed her arms as she took small steps towards her closet.

She pondered on what she would wear today, maybe her pink skirt with her black shirt? She soon decided an outfit she enjoyed to wear quite often. It was a snowy white top that bared most of her stomach. A purple mini skirt that showed one of her best features, her legs. Tall and slender that they were, perfect for showing off with cute skirts.

She slipped off her giant red shirt, one of the many that Sora use to own. Since he left four years ago she had made use of all the shirts that he use to own, by wearing them as nighties for bed time. Her white shirt was a little snug, the skirt a little loose, but she didn't mind a bit for it still fit. She tried her best to look the same that she had looked four years ago, short red hair and all. They only thing that's changed were her eyes and they changed by growing more wise over the years, but besides that, she hadn't change a single bit.

Her clogs clanked and made noises as she walked across her hardwood floors. Her hands swayed back and forth in a rhythmical matter and her hair tickled her shoulders. She glanced out of her living room window and let out a small sigh. It was cloudy this morning, like every winter morning, and she'd rather live in the summer sun then the winter winds anyday. She grabbed her white jacket that laid vividly on her black couch and she slipped it on as she walked out of her small home.

He sat motionless on the cold ground. His clothes were ripped to shreds, coldness strived on the warmth so all he had to keep him somewhat warm was a thin raincoat. Everywhere around him was black, dark, evil...nothing really besides that. The ground and trails were rough but he had been through rougher times. He tries to think back to times before this place, before all of this happened. Before his entire world collapsed. Before the single most precious thing in his life turned into a sweet memory and flew away. But he could barely remember such a thing of sweetness, everything such a blur. All he could remember that he was happy but even that emotion is hard to remember.

The only light in the place of an enternity of darkness is a Transparent door. The Transparent door laid patiently to be opened again in the Secret Cave, now known to him as the only place where he could remember his old life. The walls of the cave were covered up with chalk pictures of artwork from little children but they were soon disappearing. Because with time comes age, and with age comes death, but with death comes a memory that you always keep. And so, the pictures are the memories of the sweet dreams that the children once drew and believed in.

He sat patiently next to the door waiting, waiting for a certain girl to come in and talk to no one in particular. She had been the only person he's seen in years though she couldn't see him. Sometimes, if he were lucky, he would see faint outlines of his comrade but for most of the time all he could hear were their unpatient and unhopeful voices.

She walked down the stone filled hallway where roots grew and other plants inhabited. She comes to the main area of it, and she glanced at the faded drawings that would be no more very soon. She soon found herself staring at the picture of Sora and her giving each other a Papuo fruit. She smiled softly at the memory of the day they decided to draw that picture that day. She then glanced over at the Transparent door wondering if Sora and Riku were standing only inches from there; waiting, wanting to be with her again. She sighed as she made a spot on the ground for her. Moving any small rocks from her small spot, she soon sat on the ground with her legs crossed.

"Good morning Riku, Good morning Sora." She replied half way asleep and half way awake. Everyday for the past four years she waited in this specific spot waiting for their return. She spent hours just talking about her day and their other friends, Selphie, Wakka, and Tidus too. It was moments like these that she felt the closest with Sora then she's been for a long time.

"Today hasn't been very exciting so far. Selphie has been calling this cave `Smelly ole cave' lately. Can you believe it?! She's calling our cave smelly, well maybe she should take a good look in the mirror before she says that!" Kairi laughed slightly as she waited for their answer. She imagined Riku saying something like `Let's teach her a lesson! No one messes with our cave!' While Sora would be saying something like `Yeah! Let's dog pile her while she's getting ready for school!'

"No we couldn't do that you guys," She said motherly as she tried not to think about school. Sora had missed four years of education while Riku only missed three. They had missed Prom Dates, and School Dances. They had missed on getting their Driver's License. And they had missed the worst of them all, the time they could of shared together like they did when they were little.

"Kairi...?!...Are you in here?...Please answer soon because it's really smelly in here!" Selphie cried out as she made faces when she barely missed on getting her feet muddy. Kairi rolled her eyes softly, Selphie hadn't changed a bit. She was still that fourteen year old girl who was overly girly, despite the fact she was suppose to act her age, eighteen.

"Yeah I'm here!" Kairi yelled back as her voice echoed slightly. She stood up and dusted her butt off for it was for sure dirty from the ground. After she finished dusting herself off she gave a sad smile to the Transparent door. "Goodbye Sora, Goodbye Riku." And she then turned around and walked quickly out of the Secret Cave. "What?!"

"I don't deserve her," Sora whispered under his fingers traced her retreating form from the distance. She had waited all those moments…those special times when she could have had someone to holdbut instead she waited for him. And all he could think was why… why did she want to be with him so badly that she'd waste any other form of happiness for him?

"You know Sora, you shouldn't be talking to yourself. People might actually think your crazy." Sora jerked his head startled towards the voice and he then smirked. Right now he was lucky, he saw the outline of his other best friend Riku. Riku...the tough one out of the two and the one who constantly found a way to be sarcastic 24/7.

"You scared the shit out of me Riku." Sora replied as he grabbed the hand Riku had put out of him.

"Yeah, well, we have to get going now. I don't want to get slowed down just because you like to swim in puddles." Riku said as he soon walked into the dark Abyss. Sora snorted before he realized that the ground around him had many puddles of black water in them. He just never seemed to notice it probably because he was always cold, wet, and hungry.

But before he followed Riku in the dark Abyss, he turned around and stared into the glass door for the last time that night. "Goodbye Kairi..."

I will never forget the days we once had

The days when you were everything to me

My mind used to tell me we'd be together forever

But now I realize that was all a big dream

The feelings I have for you will never go

I wish I could take back that one regretful day

The day when I willingly let you slide from my arms

Never did I think of the astonishing pain of regrets

That I would once have to live through

The sight of you in someone else's arms

Makes my heart shatter into a million pieces

I sometimes wonder if you still think of me

Or if to you, I'm just a face in the crowd

I wish so very much that one day we can have it all back

But for now, I'll sit here silently

Remembering all the memories we once shared

Everyday my love grows much stronger

Hoping that one day you will feel the same

And put back the pieces of my broken heart.
