Fan Fiction ❯ Trancending Death ❯ Fragile Friendships ( Chapter 4 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
The moment Kiba heard of Alex’s plan he raced up stairs to try and talk some sense it to him. Kiba couldn’t believe the change that occurred within Alex. It was as if Alex had died the moment Brittany had, and was now replaced by someone else. Kiba had managed to get Alex out of the room in which held Brittany’s body and into the hallway. Kiba shut the doors to the room before turning to look at Alex. “Lad, you can’t be serious. No matter how hard you try you can’t bring the lass back.”
Alex glared at Kiba before shaking his head slowly. “You don’t understand, no one does. I will bring her back. I don’t care what I have to do or what I have to give up in the process. No price is too great to bring her back.”
“Lad, there is no way to bring her back,” Kiba said softly. “I know the hardships that you are facing lad. They are the very same I faced. These thoughts are ones I myself once thought. Still, do not be foolish enough to give into false hope.”
“False hope? The only false hope I ever had was in the belief that I could finally be happy. The belief that for once everything was going to turn out right. That was the only time I’ve ever had false hope,” Alex said coldly.
“Alex, think rationally for a second. You don’t have the magical power or the knowledge to perform any type of resurrection ritual. Besides, if you truly were to go through with this, then you would have to sacrifice the lives of others to bring her back. That right there should be enough to show you how foolish this is,” Shadow calmly stated. Even though he was calm, something about Alex’s eyes made him hold onto Aurora tighter than normal.
“No, the only foolish thing I’m doing is wasting my time trying to explain myself to you. I may not have the magical power, but in case you’ve forgotten, I still posses the crystal’s that Alcadan forged for me. I can tap into their energies and gain the necessary power for the spell.”
“That still leaves the little fact of the knowledge of necromancy. Even if you did somehow learn that, what do you know about attaching a person’s soul back to their body?” Kiba asked. “Please lad, listen to reason. Your father was the best damn mage this realm has ever known. Even he couldn’t bring you back to life as you were. Instead of coming back a human you came back a demon. It’s a miracle that he was able to return your soul back to you.”
“Heh, a soul? How do you even know I have a soul, Kiba?” Alex asked. His voice sent shivers down the wolves spines as they stared at him. His icy glare caused their blood to run cold as he continued. “You just assume that Alcadan, my father, was able to give me a soul. For all we know I could be a different version from those damn wraiths!”
“Would you listen to yourself for just one damn second!” Aurora yelled. Tears streamed down her face as she spoke. “Alex, someone without a soul could never love as you have. Someone without a soul would never know the pain of loss. How could you say that you don’t have a soul when you loved Brittany with every inch of your heart and your soul?”
“If what you are saying is true, then I would truly prefer to be soulless,” Alex replied softly. The sadness in his voice was unmistakable and his eyes were haunted with untold pain.
“Don’t be foolish lad. Are you telling me that you honestly wish you had never loved the lass? Because if you are then you are more cold hearted than I thought. She loved you with all her heart and soul, and you loved her just as much. All this nonsense of trying to bring her back and wishing you were soulless would tear the lass apart. Why don’t you think of what the lass would want, instead of what you want,” Kiba offered.
“All I have been doing these past few days is thinking about what she would want. I’ve been wondering if she really ever wanted to come to this realm. I’ve wondered whether or not she really ever wanted to love me. I’ve wondered if she blames me for all the hardships she’s endured. I still wonder whether or not she would’ve had a better life if she had never met me! It seems like all I’ve ever brought her has been pain and sorrow! Kiba, in regards to your question, I wouldn’t never wish that I had never fallen in love with her. I just wonder whether she wishes she had never fallen in love with me.”
“Lad, you’ve got to quit doing this to yourself. The lass loved you and she never regretted that love. She loved you to her dying breath, that you can be sure of. Now, do the lass a favor and let her soul rest at ease. This burden and worry you are putting yourself through isn’t what the lass would want for you. She would want you to find happiness not in her death, but treasuring the time you had together.”
“Kiba, shut the Hell up,” Alex replied coldly. Alex glared at Kiba with tear stained eyes that bore the pain of his loss. Even in his sorrow it was easy to sense the rising anger mounting up within him. Everyone took a step back as Alex’s demonic energy began to rapidly pulsate through his body. “I don’t care what you say, I will bring her back! I don’t care what anyone says, or what anyone thinks about me. All my life I have been alone, that is, until I met Brittan. Now that I have finally found happiness, I’ll be damned if I let anyone or anything take it away from me!”
“Do you really think Brittany would want you to sacrifice your morals and everything you worked so hard to achieve for a chance to bring her back. A slim chance is all you have Alex. Trying to bring her back is a shot in the dark. The risks are too great without knowing whether or not it will work,” Shadow told him.
“A chance, no matter how small it may seem, is all it will take. I don’t care about the risks, and I don’t care how small of a chance I have at succeeding. As long as there is a chance to bring her back, I will never give up hope.”
“How can you say that knowing that to bring someone back from the dead you must kill people in return. Sacrificing life for a life, is that really what you want to do?” Aurora asked. She was upset with how Alex was acting. To her, it seemed that he didn’t really care about Brittany’s death as much as he did his own self pity.
“Even if you do decide to go through with it. Your father brought you back to life as a demon. Do you really want to bring Brittany back as a demon? Do you really think she would want to be brought back at the cost of other’s lives?” Shadow added.
“She would never have to know,” Alex said softly. What ever reaction the others were expecting, this was not it. “I have a theory about why I was brought back as a human. It was because demonic flesh and demonic souls were fused with my flesh and soul. Thus, creating the creature you see before you. To bring back a human as a human, all I need do is sacrifice human flesh and human souls.”
“Lad have you completely lost it! What you’re talking about in senseless slaughtering of innocent people! That is the very same thing that Zanatos did. He didn’t care who he hurt or killed. He didn’t care how many lives he tore apart, just as long as his goals were achieved. You were the one who fought against that. You were the one who didn’t want to weak to live in fear or the innocent to persecuted just because they could not defend their selves. Now you’re walking down the very same damn path that you fought to destroy! In your own self pity you’re becoming more and more like the man you hated. With ever passing second whatever light there was inside of you is fading. With every second you become more and more like Zanatos.”
Alex’s eyes glowed with hate as he grabbed Kiba by the throat and lifted him into the air. “Don’t you ever compare me to Zanatos. I’m nothing like that monster!”
“Then prove me wrong lad. Don’t follow down the same path as his. It will only lead to your own damnation,” Kiba hoarsely said.
“My damnation, don’t make me laugh,” Alex bitterly said as he released his grip on Kiba. Kiba fell roughly to the ground as Alex turned his back to them. “Regardless of what you may think, I know what I am doing. It matters little to me whether or not you believe in my actions. My actions are purer then anything Zanatos could ever hope to achieve. Zanatos has never felt the joy or the sorrow of love, nor did he ever know the sorrow of losing someone he loves.”
“Lad, many have felt the loss of a loved one. All have come to accept their death. Many were forced to lose their loves due to Zanatos’s actions. Alex, you do realize that if you continue upon this path then you will be forcing others to lose their loves. You will be putting them through the same pain you are now going through.”
“I don’t care! It matters little to me what others feel. The only thing that matters to me is bringing Brittany back. Save me your preaching Kiba, I’ve heard it all before. Ideals and morals are not fit for a devil trying to play God.”
“A devil, the last time I heard you refer to yourself as that you went by a different name,” Kiba said slowly. “The last time you called yourself a devil was when you were Razriel.” Alex was silent for a moment as he though about what to say. Kiba grabbed Alex by the arm and spun him around. “What do you intend to do lad?”
“Razriel was a cold hearted murderer who didn’t care about anyone but himself. Feared by all even those closest to him. A creature of unparalleled power and malice, that is the embodiment of the being known as Razriel. To bring Brittany back I will have to kill many people. To bring Brittany back, I will once again become the monster known as Razriel.”
Kiba shook his head sadly as he gazed into Alex’s eyes. “If that is what you truly want lad. If this is the path you have chosen for yourself; then you have not only let down me but also all those who looked up to you.”
“People do not look up to me. They fear me, therefore they respect me,” Alex said bitterly.
“No, they feared Razriel and therefore they did not disrespect him. They do not fear Alex, but they respect him and look up to him. Alex is the person that Brittany fell in love with. If somehow in your madness you manage to bring her back, do you honestly think that she will love the person that stands before her? The lass would rather remain among the dead than see you sell your soul to the devil. She’d probably weep in her grave knowing that you are becoming the very thing she feared. You are becoming a monster, and that is just by your words and not your actions. If you follow through with your actions, then you will really become a devil.”
With those words Alex glared at Kiba with eyes full of hate. Kiba didn’t even see Alex’s clawed fist lash out at him. It wasn’t until Kiba felt the searing pain and blood spread across his face that he realized what happened. Kiba covered his face defensively as Alex reached for his throat. Alex picked Kiba up once again, and once again slammed Kiba against the wall. “Don’t you dare talk as if you knew her. I knew that girl better than anyone ever has or ever will. She was...she is my life!”
“If she was your life, why are you so eager to give it away for a foolish dream?” Kiba asked through bleeding lips.
“Do you honestly consider bringing a loved one back to life foolish?”
“Aye, I do when the only way to do it comes at the price of others lives. I do when the only way to do is nearly impossible to perform. I do, when someone like you is willing to see his soul due to his own weakness.”
A feral growl escaped Alex’s throat as he tightened his grip on Kiba. “It seems that you are firm in your beliefs. I will not try to persuade you otherwise, but I’ll be damned if I’ll let you stand against me!”
“So, one who hates betrayal, now betrays those he once called friends,” Kiba whispered as a silent tear fell from his eyes.
“If you stand between me and my goals, you are no friend of mine,” Alex growled. Even as he said this, Alex was already turning with Kiba held tightly in his clutches. Alex effortlessly threw Kiba across the room and into one of the wooden doors. The door shattered under the impact of Kiba’s collision.
Author's Note: Yeah, you will sort of see Alex's mental and social values go down the drain as the story progess's. To put it simply, since he doesn't express any of his emotions after Brittany's death, the self suppression of those emotions result in a fragile mindy setting. If that doesn't make any sense then heres a less technical version, he's pretty demented after her death. Also, I'm not sure if this story will be as long as my first one, but I will try to work my magic on it. Also, trust me, I'm not going to bring Brittany back till much later in the story. But do not fret, while she might not be alive she will not be forgotten. She will be making her own appearance's throughout the story as it begins to progress. So, let me know what you think.
