“That girl was special to you, was she not?” Raza asked.
“Yes, of course she was.”
“You said earlier that you were willing to do anything to get her back. You said you would sacrifice the lives of the innocent, even your own life, just to bring her back.”
“There’s little point in what I said, seeing as how there is no way to bring her back, but you are correct. If there was a way to bring her back, no one could stop me from doing it.”
“Are you usually so quick to give up hope, especially when it concerns the safety of your mate?” Raza inquired with an amused expression on his face.
“I would go to Hell and back if that’s what it took to bring her back. Still, without any of Scion’s books, the art of necromancy is lost. No one can perform necromancy, and without that knowledge I will never be able to bring her back.”
“One who can affect the heart of this realm, must in turn have a powerful heart of their own. Whether that heart be pure of love, hate, or sorrow, it must be a heart that beats for only one purpose. I ask you now, to what purpose does your heart beat?”
Alex’s eyes locked with Raza’s. Icy blue eyes met lively emerald ones and in that instant an unspoken truce was formed between the two. Alex bowed his head for a second before sighing and looking back up at Raza. “The only thing I want to do is get Brittany back. I don’t care how, I just want to get her back.”
“Is that what your heart wants, or is that what your body wants?”
“Heh, it’s neither my heart nor body that wants her. I gave Brittany my heart long ago. When she died, she took my heart with her. The only part left of me that yearns to have her back in my arms is my soul. That girl was my life, and when she died she not only took my heart, she also took a portion of my soul. I need her back so that I can fill that void, so that I can hold her once more, so that I can feel what it feels like to love once more.”
Raza nodded slowly. He considered Alex’s answer for a moment before breaking into a small smile. “An answer truly befitting someone such as yourself. Albeit a little more poetic that I would’ve thought, coming from the Demon Lord. Still, that is an answer I’d expect from a man who’s heart and soul belongs to the one he loves. After all, only a man possessed by love could ever hope to raise the dead.”
“What are you talking about?” Alex asked, it was his turn to now be confused by Raza’s behavior.
“Consider this a gift my Lord. I hope that with it, you will find the answers you are looking for. With it, I hope you find that the first step of your journey has already been taken. I wasn’t going to give this to you, but a man whose heart hold such love and sorrow that even the heart of this realm cries because he cannot, that is a man worthy of this. I hope you take good care of this. I suspect that our paths will cross once more before your journey is over with,” Raza said smiling as he took a large leather bound book, out from beneath the folds in his cloak. He walked over towards Alex and handed him the book. Raza could see the confusion on Alex’s face, so he gave him one last bit of advice before departing.
“Your first step is done with. You have the heart of the realm on your side. That alone is a good sign for the outcome of your journey. I believe this book is one you have been searching for. Use it wisely.”
Before Alex could ask any questions Raza vanished in a bright flash of light that dispersed the darkness surrounding them. Raza’s words still echoed in Alex’s ears as he stared down at the book in is hands. Aurora started to come to, just seconds after Raza’s departure.
“Shadow...what are you doing here?” Aurora asked in a groggy and weak voice.
“I got here right as you passed out. Are you feeling okay?” Shadow asked in a worried voice.
“Yeah, just a little shaky. What happened to me?”
“I’m not sure. Evidently you were knocked out by something. Do you remember anything before you passed out?”
“Sort of. I remember feeling like I needed to get to Alex. Then I was attacked by trees, only, it wasn’t natural. It was like something was controlling them. I called out to Alex and suddenly the weather and everything else just went back to normal. Then I remember looking at him and feeling a connection to him, but it was just for a second. But that second felt like a lifetime. I could feel all his suppressed emotions, they were so great that they overwhelmed me. I guess I just got overloaded by them and got knocked out.”
“That seems probable, still, there’s too many unanswered questions. First Raza comes and says that Alex’s loss has affected the heart of this realm. Then he says you were somehow able to become a medium for Brittany’s spirit and for Alex’s emotions. Then with the whole book thing, this has been one Hell of a day,” Shadow muttered. He extended his arm towards Aurora and helped her to her feet. The moment she got up and looked around she quickly noticed something.
“Where did Alex go?”

Kiba hurried up the stairs towards Brittany’s room. His mind and body became synchronized and poised for battle. He was alert for any signs of trouble as he slowly threw open the door to Brittany’s room and peered into the lingering darkness. The moment his eyes adjusted to the darkness he let out a sigh of relief, but quickly his relief was replaced by wonder.
“What are you doing in here lad? I heard a sound and thought that someone might be trying to do something to the lass’s body. I thought you didn’t want to see her again until you could bring her back?” Kiba asked. He took note of how Alex was dressed. Alex was dressed in all black clothes. Unlike his normal attire, these were very loose fitting, but were tied tight around his arms and legs by black wraps. A high collar encircled Alex’s face, making only his glowing blue eyes and luminescent white hair visible. A traveling back was lying beside his feet as he knelt before Brittany’s body.
“I came to say goodbye to her for one last time,” Alex said softly. He stroked her hair with his hand, a small smile lingering on his lips as he slowly began to remove the necklace from around Brittany’s neck.
“Goodbye? What is the meaning of this lad, what are you planning on doing?”
“Isn’t it obvious, Kiba? I’m going to bring her back.”
“What? But, I thought there was no way to bring her back. You said so yourself that without Scion’s book you would never be able to,” Kiba exclaimed.
“Fate sometimes works in mysterious ways,” Alex said. He then extracted the leather bound book that Raza had given him and held it out for Kiba to see. “I now have the knowledge, now all I have to do is possess the will to go through with it.”
“You mean that’s Scion’s spell book?”
“Precisely,” Alex stated.
“Well why are you taking the lass’s necklace with you? I thought that, that, necklace kept you two connected.”
Alex stared at the necklace in his hand. He closed his hand around it and closed his eyes, breathing deeply as he did so. “The magic of this necklace, I fear, has lost its effect. I can no longer sense Brittany, but in my journey if I should ever lose sight of my goals or start to give way to the darkness in my heart, I know that as long as I possess this, I will find a way to bring her back.”
“So you’re going then. I guess there is no stopping you then lad. Still, I need to know, how far do you intend to go to bring her back?”
“The spell requires the sacrifice of human lives, if that is what you mean,” Alex stated.
Kiba shook his head sadly and sighed. “You know I can have no part in that lad. If that is what it requires, I cannot help you on this journey.”
“I know, I wouldn’t ask it of you. Still, I do have one favor to ask.”
“What is it?”
“Watch out for her. The spell I have placed over her keeps her body suspended in time, but if that spell is broken, her body will perish. So please, old friend, regardless of what becomes of me, can I have your word to keep her safe,” Alex asked, looking directly into Kiba’s eyes, awaiting his answer.
“Aye lad, no matter what happens or what roads this path will take you, no harm shall come to the lass,” Kiba assured him.
“Thank you, I had better be off then. The sooner I leave, the sooner I can finish this,” Alex replied, turning his back towards Kiba and Brittany and moving towards the open window.
“One more thing lad. I will not help you with what you are doing, but that does not mean I will stop you either. There are demons that plague your soul, that I know. When you return, the lass and the rest of us, will be here waiting for you.”
“What makes you so certain that I’m coming back?” Alex asked, stopping for a brief moment but not turning around.
“Even if your heart does become possessed by the darkness, this lass’s soul would never leave you there for long. You’ll come back to her, that you can be assured of,” Kiba said smiling.
Alex chuckled softly before stepping onto the window ledge. “Goodbye old friend.”
With that, Alex jumped out of the window and into the increasing darkness of the night. Kiba looked down at the frozen form of Brittany and smiled sadly. “Goodbye, my friend.”

Author's Note: Yes! Finally through with the boring stuff, now the story can really start moving. Okay, now is when things get even more confusing and even more psychotic. Trust me, it's a bad thing when even the author doesn't know what's going on sometimes. I'm having to keep going back and rereading what I just wrote to make sure that it is really what I want the character to portray. Oy, well hope you like the new chapter. Catch ya later!
