“There’s more. I know you are not the kind of person to let something like that stop you from achieving your goal. What else has made you weary of using your demonic powers?”
“You wouldn’t believe me if I told you.”
“You’d be surprised at what I am capable of believing. In case you have forgotten, I am a mage who deals in the occult arts. Not to mention I do reside within the boundaries of the Demon Realm. As far as I am concerned, nothing is beyond the boundaries of someone to believe if they’ve lived here long enough. So try me.”
Alex sighed, and despite his better instincts, told Raza about his encounter with Brittany. Raza listened to Alex’s every word. His eyes widening with shock as Alex described in detail his and Brittany’s encounter. Alex didn’t know whether he should be comforted at the amount of interest that Raza was taking in account to his story, or whether he should be alarmed at it.
After Alex had finished his story, there was a long moment of silence as Raza pondered all that had just been told to him. When he looked back up at Alex, his eyes were different. They were colder, but at the same time, more understanding.
“So, it is because you saw Brittany, and she told you not to use your powers that you are reluctant to use them?”
“Yes,” Alex admitted.
Raza sighed and shook his head. This doesn’t make sense! I can’t believe how smart he truly is. He’s already used Alex’s weakness against him. He’s already trying to foil my plans and as of now, he is succeeding. This isn’t good. Somehow I’ve got to convince him to use his powers. I can’t openly tell him everything, that would cause much more chaos than is needed. Not to mention it would probably shatter his fragile mind setting as of now.
“Alex, let me assure you, as much as you love Brittany, this time she is not correct. True, life might be easier if you had managed to conceal your identity, but the fact of the matter is, is that you have not succeeded. Already Baou and Rire are on their way to try and stop you. An army is being amassed even as we speak to try and stop you. You do not stand a chance against them unless you use the full extent of your powers!”
“Baou knows...shit!” Alex cursed in rage. “How in the Hell did he know?”
“I am not sure, but the fact remains that he does know. So does Scriar and Yaza who are going now to talk to Raion and have him and his eastern forces try and stop you. So despite your best intentions not only will you not have the power to resurrect Brittany, but you probably won’t be able to survive long enough to bring her back unless you use your powers.”
“I can’t do that! I can’t! There has to be another way.”
“Listen to yourself. Who are you? You are no longer Alex, nor are you the being known as Razriel. It as if you are torn between choosing who you want to be. Alex wouldn’t want to use his powers, but Razriel would have no problem with that. Alex would still feel pain at the loss of Brittany and his child, Razriel would not. Yet, even with your two personalities colliding, the fact remains that there is a third presence within you. I believe that it is that third presence that is really controlling you. If I am right, than that itself is very grave news. Because whoever you chose to become, either Alex or Razriel, neither one would dare let themselves become a puppet to someone else.”
“I am no one’s puppet!”
“Then tell me this, why do you hide your identity behind a mask?”
“So that no one will know who I am.”
“Why do you care if anyone knows who you are? You could simply kill them if they dared to stand against you. You are the Demon Lord, the most powerful being within the borders of this realm. Why do you hide like a common thief? Why not use your powers and end this once and for all?”
“Because...,” Alex had to think about this for a moment. He truly did not have an answer for this. Why didn’t he use his powers? Why did he conceal his identity? Surely it was not because he actually needed to. If he wanted he could strike down anyone who stood against him, so why was he hiding and refusing to use his powers which were his birth right. Alex stared at his hands once more. He could feel his demonic energy swirling around him. Even though he was restraining most of his power, he could not contain it all. Even the smallest bit of his power was still a force to be reckoned with.
Why am I so afraid to unleash my power? There’s a part of me that doesn’t want to. A part of me that’s telling me not to. A part of me that is afraid, but at the same time curious as to what the full extent of my power is. So why, why am I so afraid to use it?
“It’s because you are afraid you will become a monster if you do. You know you have to become one in order to bring Brittany and your child back, but in all reality you are afraid of that,” Raza said suddenly.
Alex looked up, shocked at Raza’s words. It was as if he could read Alex’s mind. “How...how did you know what I was thinking?”
“That’s not the point. What the point is, is whether or not you’ll face your fears and use your powers. The real reason behind your fear, is because you are afraid the one you love won’t accept you if you do indeed become a monster. You are afraid that Brittany won’t want to even look at you, you think that is the reason she told you not to use your power.”
Alex was stunned and speechless at Raza’s words. He honestly didn’t know what to say. Everything that Raza said was true, even to the real reason he was afraid of accepting his powers and fully using them.
“The fact is, is that without your powers, you will never be able to bring her back. To be completely honest, there’s no way that Alex will be able to bring her back at all. To bring her back, you must become Razriel. Still, even before that happens, you must gain control of yourself. You might not feel it, but right now there is a presence inside of you that is not your own. That is the main reason that I have come here. I could tell that something had changed within you, now that I stand before you I know exactly what it is. If you would allow me, I can rid you of this third essence and clear your mind of its influence,” Raza offered.
Alex’s mind reeled with all this newfound information. He couldn’t quite comprehend all that Raza had just told him. One thing was clear to him however, Raza knew much more about this than he was letting on.
“Another presence? What are you talking about?” Alex asked. His voice was raspy and he was unable to hide the increasing amount of confusion and chaos that building up inside of him.
“You are not acting like yourself. That is due to someone close to you affecting your conscious decisions,” Raza stated.
“No! No one is controlling me!”
“No one alive, anyways,” Raza continued unaffected by Alex’s outburst.
Alex became silent as he realized what Raza had been getting at this entire time. Alex’s eyes lit up with anger as he glared at the man. “So you’re saying that Brittany is the one who is doing this? You’re accusing her of controlling me!”
Raza sighed and stared Alex in the eyes as he calmly replied. “What makes you so sure that, that is the real Brittany?”
Alex opened his mouth to reply, but he honestly didn’t have an answer. “I know it was her. Who else could it be?”
“If you allow me to rid yourself of this influence, then you will see the truth.”
“What aren’t you telling me? You’ve got secrets that involve me, and I want to know them!”
“They wouldn’t be secrets if I told you, now would they? The truth be told, even if I wanted to I couldn’t tell you. The fact remains that the only way you will ever be able to see the truth is if you rid yourself of the essence that surrounds you.”
“No, I don’t care what you say! That was Brittany, I would know her anywhere. Who else could it have been? Besides, who do you think I’m really going to believe? Do you honestly think I’d take your word over the word of my mate?”
“Do you think I would’ve given you the secrets to necromancy if I did not have your best interest in heart?”
Alex laughed at Raza’s comment. “I’ve lived long enough to realize that no one does anything solely for someone else’s benefit. Right now, my action’s aren’t for Brittany or for my child. They are for me, because I can’t live without them. Now, I’m going to give you to the count of three to tell me what in the Hell is really going on. If you don’t , you won’t have to worry about seeing another sunrise.”
Raza was about to say something when the sound of approaching footsteps caught his attention. He turned and looked toward the dense foliage fo the forest. He turned his attention back to Alex and frowned. “It seems that our time is up. I will see you again, of that you can be assured. You haven’t yet realized your destiny Alex. The only way you can hope to bring your wife and child back is if you accept the power that lives deep within you. Farewell.”
In a flash, a bright light engulfed Raza. Alex shielded his eyes from the light, and he instantly knew that he had lost the chance to find out any valuable information from Raza.
“Damn it! Come back here you bastard!” Alex roared.
“Well now, if it is us that you are looking for my Lord, we are only too glad to oblige,” Rire commented as he stepped out from behind the trees. The dark form of Baou was right behind them. Both of them were physically tense as they faced an already enraged Alex.
Both the men froze as Alex’s eyes met their. Neither one could breathe, both were frozen in place just by the sheer raw power that emitted itself from Alex.
“Shit, this is his power with him trying to restrain it?” Baou cursed in disbelief. I can’t believe it. I’m not even close to him, yet already when my demonic aura collides with his, its as if my body is being pummeled by a thousand rocks. His demonic aura shouldn’t be this strong if he is suppressing it. At first I thought he might’ve slackened up on his restraint of his power, now however, I can tell that he is still suppressing it to the best of his ability. So where in the Hell is all this power emanating from?
