Alex felt a searing pain course through his chest. It was as if someone poured hot coals into his heart. The pain consumed his entire body before finally dispersing into a cooling sensation. Alex remembered closing his eyes the moment Shadow stabbed him. When he reopened them, he was standing before a golden gate and a figure clad all in white holding a golden staff in one hand and a book in the other.
I remember this place. I’ve been here once before. This is just like before, the first time that I died. Or rather the second now that I think about it. I remember standing before this gate after my generals had struck me down during the fight against Scion. By all rights, this will be the third time that I’ve stood before this gate. The first, even though I don’t remember it, would have to have been when I was human and died. I vaguely remember being here after my battle with Scion. The guard asked me for my name, but before I could tell him I got resurrected by the crystal of resurrection. So this place is the Celestial realm? Well now that I”m here, not much else to do but find Brittany.
With that thought in mind, Alex started toward the golden gate. Upon nearing it, the man with the staff and book called out to him. “What is your name?”
Alex stood firm with his head held high. He could tell that this man was already trying to intimidate him, and Alex was not one to stand for such acts. With all the elegance and authority that eons of ruling the Demon Realm had granted him, he calmly replied. “My name is Alex.”
Without looking back in Alex’s direction, the man focused all his attention on the book he was holding. He flipped through several pages, each one very slowly as if he was searching for something. Even though Alex couldn’t see his face, Alex could tell that he was reading every line on the page, and with each new page he was becoming steadily more vexed at the situation at hand. Finally he snapped the book shut and looked up at Alex. “You said your name was Alex, correct?”
“Yes.”
“And you came from the Demon Realm, correct?”
“Yes.”
The man once again flipped through his book, but after being unable to find what he was looking for he looked up and glared angrily at Alex. “There is no mention of anyone by the name of ‘Alex’ living within the confides of the Demon Realm. Nor is there anyone who was appointed to die at this time. So who in the Hell are you really, and what are you doing here?”
Before Alex could reply another voice came from behind the man. “The reason you can’t find him is both because Alex isn’t his real name, and he’s not supposed to be here.”
The man in the white cloak who had just been yelling at Alex, turned to look at a man wearing similar attire, but he had his hood down and a much more relaxed look on his face than the other man. Alex noticed that the man had spiky blonde hair and blue eyes. Not to mention he had a blue tattoo running down each eye. The guard of the gate looked annoyed at the man’s interruption. “What do you mean by that Lucia? How do you know so much about this?”
“Trying looking for his real name. For the person who stand before you used to go by a much different name than the one he is known by now. A name that used to strike fear even into your heart, Themis,” Lucia said with a coy smile. He looked over at Alex and bowed lightly. He then turned back to Themis and added. “If you want to know who he is, look under the name Razriel.”
“What, that monster is here?” Themis said. Even from where he stood, Alex could sense the rage that was being emitted by this man. Themis turned to Alex and raised his golden staff and pointed it at Alex. “The gods have given me a golden opportunity. It will be by my hands that this monster of a man will be vanquished!”
Alex’s eyes widened the moment he saw the golden staff begin to glow. He could feel the magical energy that was being summoned to the staff. Alex couldn’t even believe how much magical energy was being called forth. Not even Alcadan could summon that much magic. I guess this is the power of the Celestial Realm. The sheer magnitude that this magical level could do, it’s unimaginable.
Alex tried to activate his demonic powers and go into his demonic form, but to his horror he realized that he couldn’t draw upon any of his demonic powers. What the Hell is going on?
“Tengoku-teki bakuhatsu!” Themis yelled. His staff began to pulsate, and Alex watched as an orb of glowing energy was launched at him.
Alex reacted on instinct and threw his arms out in front of him, prepare to cast either a deflection spell or a barrier, even though he doubted that either one would do any good. Right before he could cast the spell, he saw a blur of white jump out in front of him. “Tengoku-teki shogai no hogo!”
There was a bright flash of light as the blast of energy collided with the protective barrier. The shockwaves alone, created from the explosion, nearly knocked Alex off of his feet. He shielded himself from the strong winds that came with the explosion. The force of which sent him flying backwards. He dug his feet into the ground and slammed his hand onto the ground as well to steady himself. When he looked up he could still feel the heat and see the enormous crater that the explosion had created. There, standing in front of him was Lucia. His staff was held across his body, his white robes fluttered madly due to the winds caused by the explosion.
That attack...he used the same spell that I did against Scion. But whereas mine was a flame, his was a nuclear explosion! There’s no telling how much damage that explosion would have caused if this guy hadn’t put up a shield. These guys are on a completely different level from anything I have ever seen before, Alex numbly thought as he stood and watched as the explosion finally died down.
“Now, now Themis. That is no way to treat someone who carries the title Lord of the Demon Realm. You know as well as I do the penalty of attacking someone before the council has met with them,” Lucia scolded. He then looked back at Alex. “Sorry about all this, but I had to jump in because in this realm, neither your demonic powers or your spells will be of any effect.”
Alex stared at the man for a long moment before finally nodding. Alex ran his fingers through his hair and laughed. “Thanks. It would have been my luck to actually die before I got a chance to see Brittany again.”
Lucia knowingly smiled and nodded. “That it would.”
“Wait, Lucia, don’t tell me you brought him here!” Themis said in shock.
“No, a mage from my realm named Raza brought me here. I have never met this man before,” Alex corrected him.
The man named Themis scowled in Alex’s direction. He then turned and with a flick of his wrist, opened the gates. Without looking back he called out to Lucia. “This man is your problem now, Lucia. I hope to Hell you know what you’re doing. Either way, I’m sure Zemnas will be interested to hear about this.”
“Go and tell him, see if I care,” Lucia said with a shrug of his shoulders. The moment the man left, Alex turned his attention to Lucia.
“So, Lucia is your real name,” he said.
Lucia turned to him, his eyebrow arched in question. “What do you mean?”
“Don’t play innocent with me. I just covered your butt back there because I owed you more than I could ever repay if what you told me about Brittany is true. The fact is, is that after I was released from being controlled, I was able to get a good look at you with eyes that were unclouded. I know when someone is being possessed, and I know that you were possessing that mage,” Alex announced.
Lucia laughed and leaned on his staff. “Well, I see you are perceptive as ever. At least this makes things easier.”
“No, it doesn’t,” Alex replied flatly. “What this means, is that I’ve been a pawn of yours since the very beginning, haven’t I?”
Lucia became very serious as he nodded slowly. “Unfortunately, you are correct. Before you hold it against me however, I want to make amends for my previous actions. That is the reason I am offering you this chance to see Brittany, and why I am going to put you before the council. That way, instead of being a pawn you can become one of the leader figures in what we want to do.”
“What makes you think I want to help you after everything you have done? You gave me the book of necromancy. If it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t have ever been able to fall into the darkness in the first place!”
Lucia sighed and nodded. “You are right. Your actions, your being possessed, all of it is just as much my fault as it is the one who possessed you, and your own self for giving into the temptation. I set you on the path you followed, but that Devil was always one step ahead of me. But these thoughts are ones that are better suited for the council meeting. Besides, what you want and what we want, is essentially the same thing.”
“When do I get to see Brittany?” Alex asked. “And will I be able to see my child as well?”
Lucia’s smile was frozen, and Alex got a feeling in his stomach that was full of despair. “The thing is, you will be able to see Brittany, but there is something you must do first.”
“Fine, but what about my child?”
“I’m not sure about your child. The matter of children’s souls are very delicate. Only the elders on the council are allowed to deal with them. So you will learn the fate of your child when you speak with them.”
Alex didn’t like the fact that he wasn’t able to see his own child, but he realized that the sooner he got through with whatever he had to, he would not only be able to see Brittany, but also learn about all that was going on around him. “Fine, what is it that I have to do?”
“Before you are able to enter through the gates, you must be purged of all evil and make amends for all your past sins. For your heart is too full of grief and sorrow to enter through these gates.”
