“Alex!” Brittany exclaimed in shock as she watched the drastic transformation take over Alex’s entire body.
Both her and Alcadan were standing next to Shimera and Lucia. Both of which were using their all seeing eyes to view the battle as it progressed. Lucia was holding onto Brittany’s hand, allowing her to watch the battle with him while Shimera held onto Alcadan, thus allowing him to view the battle as well.
“So that is his true form. The true form of the Devil known as Razriel. Fate truly has a sick and twisted sense of humor. For it is the soul of Rosemarie that gave him this power. It was also the need to help his friend that gave him the will to use it,” Alcadan said in a soft voice.
“Alcadan, why are Alex’s markings changing? I thought you removed the seal on his powers. Shouldn’t the markings stay as they are?” Brittany asked suddenly.
“Do you see how the tattoo around his stomach stays how it originally was? That is because that is the seal that I put on him. Rather, that is the origin of the seal itself. The markings on Alex’s body are to keep his demonic energy from escaping his body too rapidly, thus decreasing his strength. The markings adapt to the level of his demonic power. Alex’s demonic power has increased by nearly two hundred percent, thus the markings needed to become stronger.”
“But I still don’t understand. Why are the markings changing at all if the seal isn’t active?”
“That is because even though it is true that I released Alex’s seal, he is subconsciously keeping it active to control his powers.”
“Why?”
“Because, a part of him fears the power that he has. He fears that he will lose control of it someday. Even when he was Razriel I used to have to dampen his powers for him, because he was afraid that at some point he would let his powers control him. He keeps the seal active only to dampen his powers, not to inhibit them.”
“So, Alex is holding back some of his power then?”
“No, this is Alex at his strongest point. The power he is using is all he has. What he is dampening rather, is something else,” Lucia said with an all too familiar knowing look in his eyes. “He’s dampening something that causes even the Demon Lord to quiver in fear.”
“What is he dampening?”
Lucia smiled. “Let’s just say this. There are certain things about Alex’s past that not even you know. Before the seal was placed Alcadan dampened Alex’s powers because Alex was afraid that he would let something else out if he retained full power. So while this is all of Alex’s current power, this is not the full extent of power he could achieve.”
“What do you mean?”
“That’s something Alex should tell you. It’s not my place to discuss things like that.”
Brittany thought about this for a moment before deciding to change the subject. “I still can’t believe it. It was Kiba...well...Zanatos. It was all because of him that this happened. All this suffering. Was Scion’s hatred for Alex really so great that he had to use Kiba’s and Celeste’s love for each other against all of us. Just as he used Alex and my love for one another. So much suffering has been caused because of one man’s hatred.”
There was a brief silence, for them, time had stopped. The battle they were watching froze in time as Lucia turned to Brittany. “Do not focus on the hatred and the pain. Think of the good. Think of the fact that no matter how much suffering has been caused by hatred, everyone who has suffered still holds on to hope. Some people have lost everything they have, but they still smile, because they know that they could have it worse. “
”Scion’s soul is here, is it not?”
Lucia hesitated for a second before answering. “Yes, his soul does still reside here. Although his soul does not have as much liberty as yours and Alcadan’s.”
“What do you mean?”
“He means...that due to Scion’s crimes in the Demon Realm he was sentenced to the lower level of this realm. Where he will be forced to remain and suffer for is crimes.”
“So, because Scion has killed so many people, he is forced to suffer in the afterlife,” Brittany said with a thoughtful look on her face. “Then what will happen to Alex if he were to die?”
Lucia’s reluctancy to look her in the face told Brittany what she wanted to know. She turned to Alcadan, who much to her horror, also looked away from her.
“Did you know this? Please, Alcadan, tell me you didn’t know about this!”
“Why do you think I’ve tried my hardest to keep him alive as long as possible? I knew of the horrors that awaited those who did evil once their souls entered into this realm. For what happens here is considered their divine punishment. He is one of the damned. A monster with a soul as black as the night itself. A fiend of inconsiderable bloodlust. A Devil, worthy of the worst punishments possible. That is how Zemnas sees Alex. The moment Alex is in his clutches and Zemnas doesn’t have any use for him, Zemnas will make Alex suffer a fate worse than the one that Scion finds himself facing.” Alcadan paused before continuing. “I never wished this on my son, but no matter what we could try doing to save him from this fate, nothing will stop his destiny once he has crossed over into the after life.”
“How can you say that?” Brittany asked. She was mortified by Alcadan’s response. “How can you speak about your own son like that? Surely there must be something that we can do! We could speak to Zemnas....”
“And do what?” The pain that flashed across Alcadan’s face was all too evident as he looked into Brittany’s eyes. “You saw what he did when we tried to talk to him about returning you back to life. For as long as I have been here, he has held a grudge against Alex. Alex was the first one who cheated death. To Zemnas, that is unforgivable.”
“The problem is, is that Alex’s soul isn’t evil,” Shimera said suddenly. Everyone looked toward her as she spoke. “Only those who’s soul are consumed by evil are sent to the lower level. There, they are sentenced punishments according to their actions. Alex has committed many horrendous acts, but his soul is not consumed by evil. Therefore, he shouldn’t be sent to the lower level. The problem is, is that Zemnas will not see it that way.”
Brittany could tell by the look on everyone’s faces, that they too wanted to do everything in their power to save Alex from this fate. And in their own ways, they had been trying to.
“Thank you.” Was all Brittany could say as she looked away from everyone else. “I know, that you too want to spare Alex from this fate. It seems, that were are doomed to be apart. Even in death...we cannot find happiness.”
Tears began to fall from Brittany’s eyes. The little bit of composure that she had melted away. Lucia put his arm around her and wiped her tears. “No crying. Alex wouldn’t want you to cry. Don’t worry, not yet. Have faith in Alex’s love for you. If he pulls through, then you’ll see him just yet.”
Lucia couldn’t look at Shimera’s questioning gaze. Instead he turned back to the vision of the battle that was taking place between Alex and Zanatos. “For now, let’s just watch the battle at hand. We can worry about what will come later. For now, all we can do is pray for Alex’s success and try to prolong the inevitable as long as possible.”
“Lucia, you can see into the future with your eyes. Can you see what the outcome of this battle will be before it even happens?” Brittany asked in a soft voice.
Lucia sighed and shook his head. “No matter how much I may want to. The path Alex is walking on now is unfolding even as he fights. A new path has been created for all of us. No one can predict what will happen next.”
Brittany looked back at the frozen image of Alex holding onto Zanatos’s hand with his own. Alex, you promised to come back to me. Please, do this. I don’t care how you do it, just come back to me.
Before Brittany could say anything to Lucia, the sound of a large group of people talking could be heard from behind everyone. When they turned around, they were greeted by the faces of three familiar people, along with many more.
Baou, Rire, and Cherish were all standing side by side. Beside Cherish was a man and woman that Brittany instantly knew had to be her parents. Behind them all, stood more people than anyone dared to count. That was how vast their numbers were. Brittany didn’t know why they were here, or for the most part, who any of them were.
“W-what’s going on? Who are they?” Brittany asked in a voice barely above a whisper.
Lucia, to whom her question was directed toward, peered into the faces of each person. His smile broadening with each new face. “These are the people that Alex killed while he was possessed by the darkness. These are the people who were killed by Razriel’s hands. These are the people who were defeated in the wars against Scion. These are the people who by Zanatos’s hands were slain. These are those people, who though everything has been taken away from them, have yet to lose hope.”
Brittany was speechless at what she saw before her. Even more speechless when another familiar figure presented itself. Baou and Rire parted ways to allow Celine to make her way to the front. She couldn’t quite look Brittany in the eyes as she spoke. “How is Alex doing?”
Brittany’s eyes flared with hatred as she glared at Celine. She wanted to say so many things to her. So many hate filled thoughts came to her mind, that it even scared Brittany. Yet the longer she looked at Celine, the more she realized that she couldn’t hate her. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t hate her. Brittany knew that the only reason Celine had participated at all in the events that had conspired against Alex and herself, was because Silva had messed with her mind. Now that she was free of Silva’s mind augmentation, she was suffering because of what she had done.
Brittany walked toward the group of people and headed straight for Celine. She took Celine’s hand and looked her in the face. “Why don’t you come see for yourself? Why don’t you all see? Alex’s promise to all of you, that he would defeat the one responsible for all this suffering, that promise is all that has been keeping him fighting. So come, see for yourself how Alex is doing.”
Celine smiled at Brittany. It was a smile of someone who had been burdened with a weight for quite sometime and the weight had finally been removed. “Thank you,” she whispered.
Brittany only nodded as she leaded them all toward the still frozen image of Alex. Just as Brittany reached it, a hand grabbed out to her and turned her around. Brittany turned to see Cherish smiling up at her. Behind her, were her parents.
“Don’t be sad. He’ll be fine. He’ll come back to you,” Cherish said with a smile.
Brittany’s eyes widened in shock as Cherish turned and ran back to her parents. Before Brittany could wonder how that small child knew what she did, Celine was beside her.
“That girl is a miracle worker. But she is right. You are Alex’s strength. Do not worry about things you cannot change. Just pray for his safe return. He’ll come back to you. Of that you can be assured,” Celine told her.
Brittany smiled at her words. “I believe it was Lucia who told me the same thing that you just did. Thank you.”
Brittany turned and looked at the crowd of people. She nodded and then turned back to Lucia. In a much lower tone added. “Now, let’s watch as fate unwinds itself and steps back as Alex cuts through to his destiny.”
Lucia smiled and nodded. He turned back to the frozen image of Alex and waved his hand. “Cut through to all our destinies,” Lucia said in an almost inaudible tone. “Create new paths for us all.”

Alex twisted his hand against Zanatos’s. Blood spattered Alex’s face as his claws tore through Zanatos’s flesh, taking off each of Zanatos’s fingers on his right hand. Zanatos yelled in pain, but taking the brief freedom to jump backwards and put some distance between himself and Alex.
Zanatos held his hand in front of his face, in a matter of seconds his fingers had regenerated. He looked at Alex with disgust. “It seems you’ve been holding out on me. Unfortunately for you, this new power of yours seems to have only increased your physical powers. You arm may have regenerated, but your wounds still haven’t healed themselves. So even though you are stronger, I am still far superior.”
Alex was gone in the blink of an eye. Before Zanatos even realized that Alex had disappeared, a rock hard fist slammed into his face. Zanatos was sent flying across the rocky ground, his back slamming into the rock formation from earlier.
Alex cracked his knuckles and glared at Zanatos. “If you want to talk, save it for after I’m dead. Until then, I suggest you start fighting, because I’m not going to hold back on you!”
Zanatos wiped the blood from his lips and stood. “Fine, let’s see just how strong you are. With your wounds the way they are, it shouldn’t take me much more to end your miserable life!”
“I’m well aware of how serious my wounds are, but that matters little to me. Oh, that reminds me Zanatos. I may not have the amount of control over my powers as you do, but I’m a fast learner!” Alex charged his demonic aura into his right hand, and slashed at the air in front of him. Blades of demonic aura launched out of his hands and straight at Zanatos, who was too stunned by what Alex had just done to even dodge it. The blade of energy had consumed much more demonic energy than Alex had intended them too, and thus they destroyed everything in their wake. The moment they connected with Zanatos, the blades incinerated his body and vaporized the rock formation behind him. The force of which sent Zanatos flying into the lake.
