Chapter 4: Drunk Girl
Ding-dong, the bell rang as Andrew rung the door bell.
"Hey," Cassy greeted as she opened the door.
"Hi. Uh, well, it's the night before Kacey's party. You look a bit nervous."
"Well, I am not used to being social. Plus, I don't even know what I should wear. I don't want to feel too over dressed or maybe even under dressed."
"From my experiences, just dress casual."
"Okay, that's easy enough," she said as she opened up her text books, "Weren't we on page 350?"
"Pretty sure." He was starting to get nervous too, looking back on what his friends said and what other people would think. All of this because I am taking a friend to a party! Andrew thought to himself. That night, he couldn't think straight. Not on homework, not on girls, not on anything but on what would happen at the party. There would be people making out and getting drunk, but yet, people still having a great time and dancing. Would that all change if he brought Cassy?
"What do you have on your mind that you can't think correctly at all?" Cassy said, breaking his thoughts.
"Huh? Oh, I guess, maybe, what might happen."
"Happen where? The party? Well, that's reasonable. Here's everyone who knows each other and you even. Then I show up and the whole atmosphere changes."
"Are you that nervous?"
"From what I see, yes." She kept looking down at her pencil and papers.
"Just be yourself. Don't worry." Yeah, nice advice stupid. Even you care about what other people think of you, his mind said to him.
"I guess. But just being myself makes people hate me."
"How do you know?"
"By the way they act around me. How they make fun of me. How they stare and whisper to each other. You and your friends are really the only ones who've ever really appreciated me."
"Wow, guess people can't say you aren't observant enough. Well, just don't do anything that might piss Candy and them off, I guess."
"Yeah. You know, even I can't think straight, come to think of it. Do you want to stop?" Cassy asked as she closed the thick book. That statement totally took Andrew by surprise. The smart Cassy. The very studious Cassy was asking to stop tutoring?
"Uh, sure. What are we supposed to do now then?"
"Don't know. Boardwalk? Eat? Meet your friends?"
"That's a good idea. Let's go see what the guys are doing!" he said as he grabbed her arm, ran out to his car, and instantly started to drive.
"Whoa! That got you excited!"
"Anything to get away from schoolwork!"
"Oh my god! What is she doing here? With Drew?!"
"Candy, calm down! Calm down! She's probably just using him! Don't worry!" Lacey said as she was holding her best friend back.
"Drew said he wouldn't come with anybody! This pisses me off so bad!" Candy said as red started to show in her cheeks.
"Hey Lacey!" a boy said from behind her.
"Hey Will! What do you want to do now that you're here?" Lacey said batting her eyes.
"Why don't we dance a bit?"
"Great! I love this song!"
"Hey Cassy!" Kevin said as he gave the high-five greeting to Andrew.
"Hey! Cassy, you know, you helped me get all of these nice friends right here!" Josh said. Crowding around him were a ton of girls completely swallowing him.
"What do you mean?" Cassy asked confused.
"He finally realized that he could have friends that are girls. Seeing that you were a friend of Andrew's and now a friend of ours," Brian explained, handing her a drink.
"There's Will! God, he is such a Lady Killer!" Kevin exclaimed.
"With his looks and personality, yeah," Andrew agreed.
"Whoa! What is this?"
"You've never had alcohol before Cassy?" they asked a bit surprisingly.
"I wasn't planning to. Why, is that what this stuff is?"
"Yah!"
"Whoa. I think, I am going to take a break from this for [burp], excuse me, a little while," she said with a little bit of dizziness.
"Dude, is she okay?" Josh asked.
"No, I'm fine. I just need to sit down. That's all. No problem."
"Are you sure?" Andrew asked, concerned. He didn't want this to happen at all. This would make things worse.
"Yeah. Go on ahead and dance or whatever. I just need to rest."
"Nah, I'm allergic to dancing. I'll just stay here," Andrew explained.
"Josh, are you going to dance with me or not?" a girl with blonde hair pestered.
"Hold on. I'm a bit busy with all of my other friends. Ladies, ladies. There's enough of me to go around!"
As Andrew was talking to Cassy, Brian, and Kevin, Candy, angry as ever, came over. This made matters worse. To Andrew that is.
"Hey Drew!"
"Hey."
"Thought you said you had family business to attend to. Oh well, who cares? Want to dance?"
"Yeah, he wants to dance!" Kevin said, obviously not realizing who is was and how much Andrew hated her.
"What?! Who said I wanted to d-"
"Great! C'mon!" Candy said as she pulled his arm and dragged him on to the dance floor. Unfortunately for Andrew, it was a slow song. Great. Just great. I have to dance with Candy Richardson. Slow dance! He complained loudly in his head. Though, he was very cordial to her, he was obviously screaming inside.
"So, why'd you bring Cassy Lang?" Candy asked nosily.
"She's just a friend."
"Oh sure. If you have a so called friend that's a girl, it's called a girlfriend, Drew"
"That's what you and everybody else says."
"So, how come you said you would probably come to the party by yourself? You could've come with me instead of her," she said rudely.
"I thought you had a date," Andrew lied, "Anyways, like I said before, she's just a friend. Unlike you."
"What did you say?!"
"Huh? Nothing," he quickly said. Yes! Anything to get her to go away!
"You said I wasn't your friend! You mean, I am not your girlfriend?! You always flirted with me you…you…you playboy!" And with that she slapped him hard across the face.
"God! Ow!" Candy stomped off go complain to Lacey about what had just happened.
"Drew, are you okay? What did you do to piss her off like that?"
"Give us all the details!"
"We've got dirt on Candy Richardson!"
"How?"
"Uh…."
"Never mind. Never should have asked."
"Guys, I'm fine. I need to be alone right now."
"Uh, fine. Suit yourself." As Andrew walked out on to the porch, he couldn't help but feel dizzy. Really dizzy.
"Hey Andrew. What's wrong?" He turned around and found Cassy in a drunken state.
"God, Cassy! How'd you get that drunk?"
"It turns out some one spiked the punch, soda, and everything else. You can't get one decent drink without it having alcohol in it. So what happened?"
"Are you okay?"
"Nah, I'm fine. You don't look okay. You got Candy angry at you and you have this red mark on your cheek. Lemme go get some ice," she said as she walked back inside. A few minutes later she came back with an ice pack.
"Here you go."
"Thanks. Well, the good news is, is that Candy won't be talking to me anymore…"
"You really hated her? I thought you were just hiding your feelings. Guess not. I wish she'd stop talking to me. When she does talk to me all she does is say rude comments."
"Really? Well, when you think about it, I guess that could make sense."
"You look really hurt though. Here, let me kiss it." Now he could tell she was really, really drunk.
"Uh, Cassy…uh-" He didn't get any further for now his lips were next to hers. Both of their eyes were wide open, not believing what was happening. When they broke apart, Cassy started to turn bright red.
"Sorry. I guess I slipped or something…"
"Uh…yeah, I guess. Whoa, Cassy, what's wrong? Cassy?"
"Boy! I am tired! Woopsie dasy! Whoa!"
"I think I should take you home now."
"Okee-dokee! Which way out?" she asked as she stumbled.
"Here, just follow me."
"Okay!"
