Chapter 9: A Scam, A Tear, and A Kiss

"Matty-Poo! I've got a favor to ask of you!" Candy yelled from her room to her little brother, "Hey! That rhymes! Neat!"

"Okay, what do you want me to do this time?" the thirteen-year-old asked, dragging his feet behind him to her room.

"Well, you know that high-tech megaphone you've got? I've got a project for you where you need to use it!"

"Awesome! Wait a sec…what's in it for me?" the sneaky Matt asked, wanting a fair share.

"Uh…how about…er…fifty bucks?" Candy asked reluctantly. Great! Just great! Now I have to spend fifty whole dollars on the little jerk! Well…that's okay. I'll get it all from dad, she thought angrily to herself.

"Great! What's the plan?"

"Well, all I want you to do for now is practice this script with me. I'll be Cassy." So, for an hour and a half, the two siblings practiced getting ready for the scam.

"Great! Now get your megaphone!" Candy said, totally excited. She was practically skipping about her room and the entire upstairs from joy, "Now speak and change the tempo until I think it sounds like Drew's voice. There. Now practice the lines with me using the megaphone." For at least 20 minutes, they practiced over and over again until perfect. Then Candy dialed Cassy's number and put Matt on the phone. The evil plan began.

"Hello? Cassy? Hey, it's Andrew. Hey, me and the guys have tickets for this awesome Something Corporate show! You wanna' come? Awesome! Meet at the House of Blues at noon on Saturday! See ya' there!" and Matt quickly hung up. Thus far, the plan had worked.

"Hmm…I wonder where the guys are. Andrew said noon on Saturday at the House of Blues!" Cassy wondered, speaking to herself, "Hey! I wonder if those people are here for the concert too!" As she said this, a car passed and the passengers climbed out. Each lady had a nice, stylish dress on, while the men had a tuxedo or a suit on.

"Whoa! It's a concert! Not an important business function. Why are they so dressed up? To impress the other fans?!" Next, a long, black limousine drove up. What the passengers where wearing gave quite a shock to Cassy. Out came a beautiful bride with her elegant, flowing, white gown with the veil blowing behind her. Then the groom in his nice, black, crisp tuxedo. Then the bridesmaids in their lavender, silk dresses and bouquets.

"Wow! What's going on?!" Cassy asked getting worried. Where are those idiots?! her mind kept asking. Finally, she got out of the car and walked to the entrance.

"Excuse me, where is your invitation?" the man in the doorway asked, "This is the wedding reception party of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Kent."

"Oh…I-I'm sorry…there was a-a miscommunication. S-sorry to have b-bothered you," Cassy quickly said and ran to her car with glares and stares from the people who were entering.

While driving home, she broke into tears. Why? Why? Why? Why? Why did those jerks do this to me? Make me look like a fool in front of all those people! The looked like they thought I was there to crash the party! Why?! she asked herself, hot tears dripping and staining her face.

Finally, she got home. Before she entered, she wiped the tears from her eyes and had remembered that her parents had planned a special family night out with her. An event that didn't happen very often. This happy thought cheered her up quickly. When she got in, nobody was home but there was a message on the answering machine.

"Cassy, dearest. It's Mama and Papa. Sorry, but we just remembered we must go to an important business function in London. Take care! Bye!" They didn't even say, "Love you!" or "We'll miss you!". Just, "Bye!". Cassy had enough. Enough was enough. She broke down, completely crying her heart out. Her only friends had played a rotten trick on her. The one night her parents had planned for just them three was cancelled. Enough was enough. She hated her life. Then she ran straight up to her room and cried the rest of the evening.

Somehow, Candy found out that Cassy was home alone. This is perfect! Candy thought evilly to herself.

"Matt. Got another job for you. Yes, you'll get fifty bucks is you do this with me. I'll get some of my friends and you get some of yours. We're gonna' have a little fun tonight," she ordered, flashing an evil grin.

Cassy, who had cried herself to sleep, woke up to a sound of a window being broken. Being cautious, she grabbed a baseball bat from her parents' room (which was used seldomly). Then she walked quietly down the stairs.

"AAAAHHHH!" she screamed facing five people in black with knives in their hands and bangs over their shoulders, "AAHH!" Not knowing what to do, she ran out of the house and just kept running!

"Oh my god! OH MY GOD! ROBBERS! WHAT DO I DO!?!?" Cassy screamed. Only knowing that Will lived closest to her, she quickly ran to his house.

"WILL! WILL! ARE YOU HOME?! PLEASE BE HOME!" she cried, banging on the door.

"Cassy?! What's wrong?!"

"ROBBERS! MY HOUSE! WITH KNIVES!" she cried, petrified and crying onto his shoulder.

"Robbers?!!?! Oh my god! MOM!"

"Hurry and call the police, Will!" his mom ordered, running to help Cassy after listening from the kitchen, "There, there dear. Everything will be alright. Calm down. The police will be there any minute." Right after he had called the police, Will called all of the guys, explaining what had happened. Soon, the police cam with the report. All of the windows were broken, Cassy's car was "joy-ridden", and most of the valuable things were stolen. They also reported that art pieces and painting had been ripped to shreds.

"Ms. Lang should stay at a friend's house until her parents are back. We'll do our best to find out the people who did this to you quickly and safely," the officer said. By the time the other guys got to Will's house with all of their mom's, Cassy, again, had cried herself to sleep.

"Wow! Poor Cass!" Andrew exclaimed. Everyone totally agreed with him.

"Well, the police said that she should stay with one of her friends. And I insist she stay with us!" Mrs. Chammon stated, "I completely insist, Andrew!" The other moms thought that Cassy should stay at their own homes, but eventually they all agreed that the Chammons' place was the best for Cassy.

"Cassy. Cassy, wake up dear," Cassy heard a voice. A lady's voice. A kind and gentle voice.

"Mmmm?" Cassy moaned. She slowly opened her eyes as she rolled over and say Mrs. Chammon looking down on her, "Mrs. Chammon! Where am I?!"

"Calm down, dear. You're safe. You're at my house. You'll be staying with us until your parents are home from London."

"Oh," Cassy said disappointedly, because she had remembered what Andrew had done to her.

"Well, I need to go finish cooking. You should get up and move around. You had a long, terrible day, yesterday."

"Okay." And then Andrew's mother left. Soon after, Andrew appeared.

"Hey Cass! How are you feeling today?" he asked, trying to cheer her up.

"I'm fine. Thank for wondering," she replied coldly. Andrew was shocked at the tone of her voice. What's up with her? he asked himself.

"So, you'll be spending the time here with us…"

"I know. I am not stupid."

'Okay, okay. Chill out!"

"How can I when I'm talking to a jerk!?!?" Cassy yelled, annoyed at him, "Leave me alone!" And her eyes started to tear up. She didn't want to talk to him after what he'd done. Or ever see his face. She couldn't believe that he was acting as if nothing had happened.

"What's going on? Cassy? What's the matter?" Mrs. Chammon asked, rushing over from the kitchen to see what all the commotion was about, "What did you do, Andrew?"

"I don't know! Ask he-"

"Go. I'll talk to you later. Cassy, what's wrong dear?" Mrs. Chammon asked, comforting Cassy, "Why are you all of a sudden being so cold to Andrew?"

"As if he doesn't know! He made me look like an idiot of myself in front of an entire group of strangers!"

"What?!" his mom exclaimed, completely shocked.

"He did! On Friday night, he called me up and said that he and the guys had tickets for a Something Corporate concert the next day. So he asked me to come and meet him and the others there at noon. It turned out there wasn't a concert that day. It was a party for after a wedding!" Cassy explained, with a tear on her cheek.

"I never did any of that!" Andrew exclaimed, storming into the room after eavesdropping.

"Well, the person sure did sound like you! And had the same name as you!"

"Well, I never did any of that! I swear! What times was this?!"

"Friday night at around 7:30 pm!"

"I was at the dentist! Mom, wasn't I?"

"Yes he was Cassy. I was with him," Mrs. Chammon said calmly.

"See? I didn't do that to you! Why would I?"

"Because…because…oh, I don't know…" Cassy answered, hanging her head and looking down at her feet.

"Why would I do that? Why? How could I when-" Andrew paused for a couple of seconds, "when I like you? When I love you?" Cassy quickly looked up, eyes wide, mouth dropped.

"W-what?!" she asked in surprise. His mom's eyes were almost popping out of their sockets form shock.

"I…I've fallen in love with you, Cass," Andrew said, as he started to blush from embarrassment.

"Andrew?" Cassy asked, still stunned.

"It's true…I…I love you…" he repeated. You could tell he really did.

"Really?" Cassy asked, now the tears of sorrow becoming tears of joy.

"Ye-" He couldn't continue. Cassy's mouth against his. For the first time, they had shared a real kiss. Not with either of them being drunk or anything. But a real kiss that was meaningful. They both quickly completely forgot about everything and everything around them, even Mrs. Chammon, who was still in the room, crying with happiness. Even she forgot about everything. She was happy for both of them. She even forgot about dinner, which was now burning!

A/N: Hey! It's not over yet, folks! Still more to come! I'm not done yet! How do you like it so far? ^_^
