Prologue
----------
"Wrath of Ra!" Brianna shouted, her eyes glowing red as she unleashed her most powerful attack, aiming it at the dark figure standing in the shadows.
"Eight thousand attack isn't enough!" Julia yelled, raising her sword above her head. "Mezmerizing Faith!" A jet of white light came out of her sword, combining with the fire.
"Poseidon-" Kathy began, but froze. Her eyes widened. Their attacker's weapon... it was- "STOP!" she shouted.
No avail... The attack hit...
***
Kathy woke with a start. What... was that dream all about? What were they doing? Wha-
She laughed. Overanalyzing... again... Wasn't that JUST wonderful? How very amusing...
***
"Kathy," her mother said, not looking up from the book that she was reading, when Kathy came into the kitchen. "Remember, you're testing that game tomorrow... 'Unmei no Tamashi'."
"Yes, I remember," Kathy said, sitting down. "How could I forget?"
"Not sure... do I have to opick up Brianna, Julia, and Meira too?" her mother asked, still not looking up. "They're beta testing with you, right?"
"Yes..."
"All right."
***
(AIM Sequence)
Brianna: So... what was your dream about?
Kathy: I don't know... we were attacking some person in the shadows. Using what looked like magic.
Brianna: Magic?
Kathy: Yup. I think you were using some attack called "Wrath of Ra."
Brianna: Don't understand.
Kathy: ... I don't really understand it either.
Brianna: I suppose...
Kathy: I've got to go... see you tomorrow.
Brianna: Bye.

Kathy looked out toward the large building in the distance. There it was... the game studio that was producing 'Unmei no Tamashi'... Why did she have this feeling of... Dread around her? There was just something about this building that made her (somehow) regret ever signing up to test this thing...
~~Flashback~~
"Look," Kathy said, pointing to an ad in the newspaper. "These people need a beta tester for a Japanese game called 'Unmei no Tamashi'."
"Wouldn't they air that in Japan first?" Julia asked absently, paying more attention to the DDR song that she was playing. Kathy, Julia, Brianna, and Meira were at Kathy's house, at a sleepover.
"I would think so too," Meira replied, missing an arrow in the game, still losing by a considerable amount. "It would be like Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts."
"Well, we could try and test that game, it looks interesting," Brianna said, looking over Kathy's shoulder at the ad. "It says all we have to do is send in a postcard to this mailing address. They're looking for four people too..."
"Let's go give it a shot," Julia suggested, stepping off the dance pad, having beaten Meira at DDR for the 7th time in a row.
"Easy for you to say," Meira grumbled. "I can't seem to win anything..."
~~End Flashback~~
That was it... after that day... they had been accepted.
"You all right?" Julia asked, glancing at Kathy.
"Fine..." Kathy replied, laughing. "We're beta testing! How could I not be happy?"
"You seem kinda... distant."
"Just not paying attention," Kathy answered.
"I see..."
***
"Explain that again?!" Meira almost yelled out in disbelief.
The four friends, Brianna, Julia, Kathy, and Meira, were standing in the main room near the virtual test pods that would be used in the game.
"You have exactly 72 hours to beat the game," the attendant who was standing near them. "After that, your session will be expired."
"And that means..." Kathy asked questioningly, not noticing that the attendant was becoming fairly impatient at all the questioning.
"It means that you have three days to beat the game before a Game Over!" he snapped. "Are you ready or not?"
Kathy slowly looked around, and seeing small nods, she turned back toward the attendant. "I think we are..."
***
"Are you sure this thing is safe?" Meira asked suspiciously, poking at the virtual simlator helmet that she was wearing. "I mean... isn't it kind of... well... big and bulky?"
Indeed, the virtual simulator helmet was fairly large, weighed down by equipment surrounding it. Nasty color too, being a sort of sick yellowish green color.
"We'll fix that later, we just want you to test the game now!" the attendant snapped. "Are you ready or not?"
"I suppose so..." Meira said doubtfully, slowly pulling the shield attached to the simulator over her eyes. Kathy, Brianna, and Julia did the same.
"What is this game type again?" Brianna asked. "Role Playing or something?"
"Yes, RPG, or Role Playing Game," the attendant replied simply, clearly bowing to the inevitable - these four girls were just going to keep on asking questions, and never stop... "I'll start the simulator in five seconds."
5... 4... 3... 2... 1... 0
"Oh yes, just one more thing," the attendant said, smiling suddenly. "It's too late to back out now, but you four should know this. If you don't beat this game in 72 hours, you'll lose more than the game... You'll lose your lives!"
Muffled shouts were heard, but there was no stopping. The simulator was on, and there was no turning back...

Meira: So... what'd you think?
Rose: What the heck?! You're planning on killing off your friends?!
Meira: *shrugs* Plot. But I doubt I will unless I really run out of ideas...
Rose: Well, update so I can see if you kill off your friends or not!
Meira: -_- Read and Review!
Rose: Flamers will be torched and flames will be used to burn down our Christmas Tree!
