Vacation Lies
She giggled, her ear glued to a tiny blue plastic cellular. He watched her warily.
Of all days to show up.
A soft laugh issued from her glossy mouth and his look turned exasperated. He crossed his arms in front of his chest and stood to the side, pursing his lips at her.
She turned to face him, a wide grin plastered on her features. He opened his mouth to speak.
“So, stalker. Wh--”
She cut him off with a palm facing up frantically waved in his face. A mumbling sort of rumble was heard from the piece of plastic next to her ear and she turned to it, glaring at him.
He threw his hands in the air as she spoke into the blue phone.
“No, hun, that was just the bartender.”
He glanced up at the cloudy blue sky above them and rolled his eyes. She would, of course, state that she was in a place completely opposite than where she really was---a parking lot of Macy’s, smack dab in the middle of the huge city of Seattle, Washington.
“No, I’m not having an affair.”
He laughed silently at this.
“I can’t help it if the bartender has a sexy voice!”
He smirked and raised an eyebrow at her. She responded by raising both of her own and blinking innocently, a secret smirk on her face. He rolled his eyes once more as she spoke into the phone again.
“Look. Dear. I’ve known you for a lot longer than I have him.”
More mumbling was heard. She really must have had the volume on the little cellular loud; he could hear almost every word. No matter if he didn’t catch any, she repeated the caller’s words right back at them anyway.
“ Yes, only about five or six yea---days now…”
He caught the slip and smiled.
“Yes, they’re here. No, they can’t talk. Yeah, they’ll watch out for me…honestly, hun, do you really believe---”
She was cut off with more mumbling.
He turned and started to walk away, presumably towards his car.
“Aa-aah, hun, look, I’ve got to go - I’ll see you in two weeks, alright?”
A small snap of a phone closing could be heard, and he stopped where he was.
Two slender arms encircled his waist and soft breath touched his neck. He turned around.
“Hey, stalker.”
