Chapter 3

The Journey Begins

 

Satu (Nia) looked around the village as she and the others came upon it.

 

At the moment, the characters were milling around, ignoring them.

 

"How are we supposed to get any information from these characters?" Enya (Amber) asked, glaring at a villager who had pushed her out of the way. "Excuse me!"

 

"Enya! There's no use in getting mad. You don't want to burn down the village, do you?" Aran (Mark) asked.

 

They could see that fire was starting to form around Enya's hands.

 

Xantara (Alanna) stayed silent, not wanting to mess with the angry fire elemental.

 

"Welcome Satu of Air, Xantara of Earth, Aran of Water, and Enya of Fire." Said an unfamiliar male voice behind them.

 

The four of them jumped and turned around in alarm.

 

Behind them stood a man wearing gold lined blue robes over a long black shirt and black breeches. He had shoulder length hair that was a shade lighter than black and his eyes were a light violet.

 

"You are new characters to this world of Adventurequest. In this town, and many more along the way, you will find shops to buy items. Up north in the mountains, you will find a training facility.

 

"With each battle that you are in, you will gain experience, and if you have enough experience, you will gain levels. There are many strong beings in this World, and each one takes a certain amount of skill to defeat."

 

"What kind of creatures?" Satu asked.

 

"No one can tell." He said with a slight smile, before continuing.

 

"Here in this place you will use silver as currency, and you will gain silver as you fight in battles. Here is your starting amount." He handed each of them a small cloth bag that was heavy with coins. "This is enough to start you out in the game." He concluded, smiled again, and then continued on past them.

 

"Well, that was...interesting." Xantara said, staring after the character.

 

"He must be programmed to say that to new characters. Though, to me it didn't seem like he had always said that. Maybe he is just a friendly person who came into the game a while back, and knows a lot about the game already." Satu said.

 

"Maybe. Hey it's getting dark, maybe we should return to the real world." Aran said, looking up at the sky.

 

It was indeed getting dark, which seemed somewhat odd, but maybe the game was programmed to have a time sequence.

 

"What's going on? I can't turn off the game!" Enya cried all of a sudden. "I can't even lift my hands to flip the switch.

 

"Neither can I." Replied the others.

 

"So...does that mean that we're stuck in this game?" Satu asked.

 

"I guess so...." The others said at once.

 

"It seems like we can't leave the game until we beat it." Satu said, saying the thing that was on each of their minds.

 

In their short time together, they were already becoming friends.

 

"Where do we go first?" Enya asked. "Since we're stuck here."
