Fan Fiction ❯ Wolverine's match ❯ Thorn ( Chapter 1 )
Chapter one
Thorn
Instinct told her to run. Fast and far. She felt the wind in her hair and the twigs snapping against her face. It was dark and she had no idea where she was going.
"Ancient forces of dark and light release your ancient grace and show me the way!" She chanted. A small ball light appeared in her hand and then shot forward showing the path.
"Gotcha!" came a voice. Two arms wrapped around her own making her drop the light ball darkening the path once more. Claws dug into her arms drawing out blood.
"Thorn, you have learned nothing!" The voice growled.
"Thanks for noticing!" Thorn managed. Her eyes turned blood red and electricity pulsed through her body. The electricity escaped her body and traveled around her and the man behind her. The man dropped off her and she turned around.
"Sabertooth, I shoulda known." She said pushing her waist long black hair out off her face. All the sudden Sabertooth lunged at her like a cat would at it's pray. His body froze in mid-air.
"Dear Sabertooth. Again you underestimate my power." Thorn's blood red eyes pierced the darkness toward Sabertooth. His body spun off into the nearest tree knocking him out.
"That should give me more time." Thorn said letting her eyes go back to their normal colour. Then something hard hit her in the back between her shoulder blades. It had knocked the wind out of her tiny body and instantly dropping her to the ground. She sat doubled over on the ground trying to catch her breath when she heard someone yell.
She slowly looked up still trying to gain air and she seen a man with his hand in the stomach of a tall slender blue women. He pulled it out and she seen it had three metal claws attached to it between his knuckles. Out of no where memories came flooding back to her. Memories of her past. She slowly clasped her head and let out a shriek of pain. She saw needles and test tubes and her self. All in her body making her ache. Metal injected into her body crafted upon her bones. She could recall the pain so well. Her body surged with that pain once more. She forced open her eyes trying to force the pain away and she seen a man standing in front of her. The pain did not leave but left her with even less breath then before.
Wolverine watched the girl. He could feel white-hot raw power radiating off her. He slowly bent down and touched her shoulder. All her pain surged through him. His body tensed against the bond crushing pain. He had seen the girl slowly open her eyes.
"Can't breath." She gasped. Wolverine grabbed her arm and helped her stand up. She slowly regained her breath.
"Thank you." She said quietly.
"You're welcome." He replied gruffly.
"Wait your weapon x aren't you?"
"Uh -yea." His memory briefly flashed back to the testing and needles.
"You're just like me then…" She looked at Logan with sad eyes.
"What?" Thorn took Logan's hands and Logan drew out his claws. She looked down at the ground and out of the tips of her fingers her claws came.
"You mean-?" Logan couldn't get the words out. He never thought there would be another person like him. Some one completely alone and in so much pain. Memories hurt both of them and leave them in a cold sweat at night.
"Tory are you alright?" A voice said breaking into his thoughts. He heard Thorn draw her claws back in. He looked down at the girl and heard the professor coming up behind them. Tory just stood frozen.
"Umm Professor why don't I just talk to her for a minute?" Wolverine said. The Professor nodded and turned away.
"Umm so Tory is it? Well I'm Logan."
"Hi." Anyone could tell that at that moment Tory didn't want to be there. Logan knew her pain and he wanted to help her. He had to for his sake.
"Tory, do want to come back to the school for gifted people?"
"What is it?"
"It's a school for people like us. Mutants. They have everything we need. Computers, bedrooms, living room, kitchen."
"Sounds better then this place." Logan saw a shadow of fear pass through her intensely green eyes.
"You live here?" He asked. Tory nodded.
"I live anywhere really. Any where I can."
" Why?"
"Well I can't stay in one spot for to long. A mutant called Magneto is after me. He sent his goons out just a tonight."
"I see that." He looked around and saw Sabertooth on the ground. "You did that?" he said amazed. Out of all his fights with Sabertooth he was never able to beat him. And yet she did.
"I have more then one power Logan. Most in which I can't control. That's a lot of the reason you felt my pain when you touched me."
"You see the school teaches you to control your power."
" I might as well. I have no where else to go." All the sudden Logan felt a familiar tug on his bones. He felt his body move unwillingly flying against a tree. He pried his eyes open to see Tory in the middle of the open field.
Magneto floated down in front of her. Logan felt the need to help her.
"Tory, I want you back. Join me of die. I can't have power like your running on the wrong side."
"I would never join you. Not again! Not ever." Tory yelled back.
"Fine." Magneto clenched his hand together binding Tory with her adimantuim skeleton. Logan heard an ear-piercing scream. The Logan felt his body release. He seen Tory with her hand toward him over riding Magneto's power. She was now kneeling on the ground in pain.
Logan raced forward drawing out his claws. Magneto unclenched Tory to get Logan. He felt a wave of anger from Tory. Logan stopped dead in his tracks. Pieces of her hair looked as if blood were dripping down it. Streaks of blood red hair. She roes slowly into the air wind swirling lightly around her small body.
" Bad move Magneto." She said. Fire engulfed her hands. She thrust her hand forward and the fire went forward as well. It surrounded Magneto in a tornado like way. With his last energy Magneto flew off.
Logan looked at Tory. She slowly started to fall. Quicker and quicker. Logan ran and then dived to catch her. He used his back to land and come to a skidding halt. He held her close to him not willing to let her go.
"Logan are you all right?" a voice asked. Logan looked up to see the Professor, Jean Gray, Scott Summers, and the Beast.
"Uh yea but I don't think she is." He said once more looking down at her. He couldn't help but look at her. Jean quickly moved in to see if there was a pulse.
"She ok but she might have some broken bones from Magneto. We have to take her back to the school for medical treatment."
"Okay." Logan moved Tory's body to be closer to his own. He slowly got up and walked toward the X-jet. They all climbed the stair into the jet. Logan softly set Tory down in one of the seats.
Without many words they traveled home. Once there Jean levitated Tory to her lab. She set her down a slab of metal and began working. Logan waited patently in the waiting room. Soon enough he fell asleep.
Jean worked long and hard on Tory. Many of her ribs were broken or damaged. The metal set upon them was not easy to put back together but she managed it.
A few hours later Jean came out and seen Logan asleep on his arm. She lightly taped his shoulder and he stirred awake.
"Logan. She is awake and she wants to see you. Go see her." Logan nodded and got up. Stretching as he waked in he walked up to the girl.
"Hey." He said softly.
"Hey." She whispered back.
"How are you feeling?"
"Fantastic." She said. Logan's mind flashed back to when he had said that to Jean after Liberty Island. Logan lightly pushed a piece of her jet black hair from her face. Tory managed a smile.
"Do you hurt much?" Logan asked.
"Mmmm, yea. I would really like to get off this slab of metal though. It doesn't help much."
"Well I can take you to your room if you want."
"Okay." Tory gasped as she slowly sat up. She clenched her face in pain and made it to her feet. Logan quickly jumped into help. He slipped an arm around her waist and then put her hand on his shoulder. He could feel Tory lean slightly toward him.
Together they walked to Tory's room that the Professor assigned to her. Logan opened the door and Tory sat on the bed. A thin line appeared around her feet and moved up her body changing her clothes as she went. It changed into warm pj's. Blue pj pants and a blue tee shirt.
Logan helped her lay down on the bed and then sat down on a chair next to it.
"How do you feel?" He asked once more.
"My body still hurts but it will heal soon. It always does. It heals itself when it pleases. But it can't heal my bones."
"Your body is like mine then?"
"Yea, except the bones thing. My body is probably identical to the way yours was made. Except you have three nails and I have 10." Logan seen Tory's body emit a faint light off it. Tory could feel the bruises fade away and the cuts heal.
"What was that?"
"That would be the way I heal." She slowly got up off the bed. Logan was quick to notice that she was only as tall as his shoulders were.
"You're so small." He said putting a hand on her head.
"Yea well what can I do about it?" Tory said smiling. Logan just laughed.
" You know the name I'm mostly known as is Wolverine. What about you?"
"Oh. Thorn. Usually known as Thorn."
"Thorn eh?"
"Yeppers."
"Interesting." Tory just nodded. She walked over to her dresser and grabbed a brush. She ran it through her black hair. Logan could almost sense her sadness.
"You loved your parents didn't you?" He said completely out of the blue.
"Yes. I can't really remember them though. Although once I can remember I was trying to walk and I fell. Two hands caught me and words of encouragement were whispered in my ear. I know it's impossible for most people to remember that but I can. It hurts to know how much your parents loved you as much as they did. I mean it would be different if I didn't remember them but I do." A tear fell down her cheek and she quickly attempted to wipe it off. Little did she know Logan was standing right behind her. Her arm ran into his chest and she noticed it was firm and perfect.
"I'm sorry Tory."
"Its okay. I have gained one thing today. A home." She smiled. She tilted her head back and looked up at Logan. Logan was again amazed at how green her eyes were. "The Professor is coming."
As predicted the door opened reveling the Professor.
"Tory do you remember your parents?" The professor asked.
"I remember them."
"Yes Maggie and James were good people. They gave you up to save your life not theirs."
"I know in an alleyway. But they still found me and changed me. And killed them."
"How old are you Tory?"
"19."
"Yes, I thought so. You will be spending time here then?"
" No I would like to take a few classes here. I want to learn how to control my powers and I want to take art."
"We can arrange it. Logan will you stay here with her for awhile?"
"Oh I-"
"Yea sure." Logan interrupted. Tory sighed. The Professor nodded and left.
"I guess it will have to do for now." Tory smiled jokingly. "It's a place to call home though."
"Yea that's the way I felt when I came here. I was just runnin beatin up guys in bars."
"Well I didn't go that far."
"No it seems you took your fights out side." Tory smiled. Logan drew her into a hug. He wanted her to stay there so he could hold her forever. He felt something between them. He wondered if she felt it to. He let Tory out of his embrace. He watched her and smiled. He predicted over the next few months him and Tory would get much closer.
