The sun sat lowly in the sky, ready to rise. The ball of fire dappled, so mesmerizing, and sent its rays down towards the grassy fields of Hyrule. Only one soul remained awake, watching its beauty. Alone.

“When will he come back?” A beautiful young farm woman seventeen years of age whispered to herself. “He just got up and left…all those years ago.”

Footsteps headed towards the young woman's direction, and she turned around, swinging her long red hair in the process. Her icy blue eyes were set upon her own father, elderly and not as strong as he used to be, but still full of life and spirit.

“Malon, you've got to stop gettin' up so early, my darlin'.” Talon kissed her on the forehead and sat next to her on the ground. “Why do you do this to me?”

“Do what?” Malon questioned.

“Don't play games with me. You know what I mean.” He crossed his arms, awaiting his explanation.

“I can't sleep knowing that I might miss him coming back.” A tear slid down her check as she covered her face in shame. “When will he come back for me?”

“Are you still talkin' about that boy?”

Malon nodded.

“We've been over this with the psychologist, puddin' pie. He doesn't exist.”

“No, that's not true! Remember? He saved Hyrule from destruction! He saved us all! He stole my heart!”

“Have you been taking your medication like the psychologist directed you to?”

“For the last time, yes! I don't need that shitty potion, though! He's real! The Hero of Time is real! And I love him! Why the hell else would you hear my bed bumping against the wall when I'm in it? I pretend I'm fucking him so one day, I can pleasure my true love with all the lust within me!”

Talon cringed at the thought of his daughter masturbating to a non-existing man, but he continued on. “Malon, you and I both know you have schizophrenia. We're trying to help you, but you refuse to help yourself.” Talon sighed, rubbing his aching back.

“You just won't listen, will you? Even Princess Zelda told me he was real!”

“Now when did we ever get the honor of visiting the Royal Family?” he chuckled and decided not to argue, but to instead play along. He had heard the silly story many times before, but he thought it wouldn't hurt to hear it again.

“You weren't there with me, but it was that day I delivered the milk to Hyrule Castle for you when you got sick. I was eleven years old at the time. The royal family was sitting in a carriage with two horses when suddenly both horses started to misbehave, and began to buck and rear up. The coachman who was holding the reins tried to stop them, but he got kicked and fell down. So naturally, being an animal expert, I rushed over to help.”

Talon smiled, thinking `She may not be in her right mind, but she sure is creative.'

“I calmed the horses down and the princess got out of the carriage immediately and healed the coachman with her magic. Then she saw me, who had stopped the horses' behavior, and approached me slowly. She had a big grin on her face and she hugged me. Then she invited me back to the castle. I declined her invitation, but she insisted and pulled me into the coach. When the carriage reached the castle, she dragged me by the arm to her garden. It was such a wondrous place, and I had never seen so much beauty in plants, not even at this farm.” Malon paused for a moment.

“Continue, dear.” He urged.

“So then I said `Thank you for inviting me here, Princess Zelda, your royal highness. Bless you and the royal family.' She burst out in laughter and told me `No need for that, pal.' I was surprised how she didn't act like as much of a princess as I thought she would. Anyway, I asked her `But since you know so much about Hyrule's legends…could you please tell me about this boy I vividly remember?'” She agreed, and I said `I think he was a hero. The Hero of…something.'

`Oh, my favorite part.' Talon thought.

“Then she stared at me like I was crazy and said `You…remember him? But when I sent him back in time…I mean…no one should remember him. It's…not possible!' I apologized and began to get up from my seat to leave, but she stopped me. `Okay, somehow you know about The Hero of Time, and…perhaps I should tell you…since you helped with our horses. His name is Link, and he saved Hyrule from the evil desert man, Ganondorf Dragmire.' And so she went on for hours about every little detail, as if she was deeply fascinated, maybe even obsessed with him.”

Malon shivered a bit and wished Talon would believe her story, but she went on anyway. “And then I remembered everything. Link…the Fairy Boy…who I…had a crush on. From that day on, I made it my mission to prove I'm the one for him. My true love…”

“Nice story, my girl! I applaud your creativity! The psychologist thinks you're very creative. Oh, speaking of psychologists, you have an appointment with him today.”

“Fuck. Do I have to go?”

“Do this for me. Please?” he patted her on the back and handed her a bottle of creamy orange potion. “And take your medication as well.”

Malon angrily swiped the potion from his hands and grumbled about the irony of the potion's side effects making her crazy, when it was supposed to stop her from being crazy. “I don't need it!”

Talon frowned. “Do I need to feed it to you?”

“Hell no.” Malon threw the bottle across the room, but it did not shatter.

“You've done that so many times, I asked the psychologist to put a spell on the bottle so it wouldn't break. Now take it, or I'll call Ivo in to `help' you take it.”

“I refuse to gulp down this shit when it only makes me worse.”

“Why do you have to be so difficult?” he asked, exasperated.

“Hello, boss!” Ivo chirped as he walked in on their conversation. “Hello, Malon! Up again early this morning waiting for your `hero?'” He laughed cheerfully.

“Shut the fuck up, you moron! I wish Ingo still worked here!” Malon hissed. She despised Ivo, Ingo's eighteen-year-old firstborn son. He was hired to work at Lon Lon Ranch. His two other sons, Nego and Suno, were twins, and two years younger than Ivo. She hated all three of them, but Ivo was the absolute worst of them.

“I'm glad you liked my dad working here so much, but you and I both know how he couldn't do farm work anymore after his sudden disappearance. And we know you're too…ill.”

“Dad, do you hear what the fuck he's saying to me?!” she shot a glance at her dad, who had somehow managed to fall asleep, right in the middle of their feud.

Ivo gently shook Talon, waking him up.

“What in tarnation?! Oh! Did I fall asleep again? Excuse me while I get some coffee to wake myself up.” Talon began to leave. “And Ivo, if she refuses to take her medication, do you mind `helping' her?”

“Sure thing, boss!” he smiled a sickeningly sweet smile at Talon, and waited until he left. Then he picked up the bottle Malon threw across the room and grinned creepily at her. “Time to take your medicine.”
