“We're supposed to be responsible parents at the moment, Ivo! I'm exhausted, and I don't feel like having sex, especially with you!”

“Don't you want more?”

“More sex? I already said no!”

“I mean more children. It's been my dream since I was a kid to live on this farm with you and have children. I want that dream to come true.”

“You're very selfish! I never wanted to become a mother in the first place, you rapist!”

“This will benefit both of us, Malon!”

“It's wrong to tie someone into your fucking dreams like that!”

“Do you love Rose?”

Malon didn't answer.

“Why don't you love her?”

“It's not that! I just…wasn't ready…”

“Face the facts, Malon! This is what people do! They have children! They grow old! Then they die!”

If Malon disagreed so much with Ivo, then why did she finally understand his point of view? Apparently, it was his dream to become a father. Why should she ruin it? Just because he raped her and killed her father? Maybe…

So for the next seventeen years, Malon had more children. Four more, to be exact, adding up to five to take care of. Ivo often made threats to rape other women and kill her and their own children. She didn't want other women to suffer, and she certainly didn't want her children to die. Of course, she still had no desire to be a mother, but she nurtured her kids nonetheless like a good parent should do.

Although thirty-five, Malon felt more like she was in at least her sixties. Taking care of a seventeen-year-old, a fifteen-year-old, a ten-year-old, an eight-year-old and a five-year-old was no easy job. Ivo had made her have more children for so many years until he finally couldn't keep up with the parenting.

In fact, Ivo wasn't a responsible parent anymore like he was when Rose was a baby. He often traveled to the ever-expanding Kakariko Village to gamble, drink and do who-knows-what-else. But one night, Malon was fed up…

“Ivo!” she hollered. “You're always leaving me to take care of the kids!”

“Rose is almost ready to get her own place and have kids of her own…”

“Excuse me! Do not change the subject! And Rose will not be having children anytime soon, or getting her own place!!”

“Kids grow up, honey. Do you really want another baby that badly? I won't mind…”

“No!” Malon shouted. “No more! And are you drunk again?”

“Yes, but…”

“Listen, you are going to stay home and take care of the kids tomorrow! I'm going…somewhere.”

“Fine, fine.” He agreed. “Just tomorrow, though. The day after that is Poker night.”

Malon shot him an angry look as she climbed into bed. She was unable to sleep that night. What place did she want to go to tomorrow, anyway? And why did she constantly have a desire to never return back to the ranch? She couldn't leave her kids; she loved them, even though they were a handful.

Suddenly, it hit her. Gerudo Valley. She remembered promising Master that she would return someday many years ago. She might as well keep her promise.

So the next day she saddled up a horse and sighed as she remembered the days of her riding Epona, who was no longer alive. Old age had broken her leg many years ago, and Malon had no choice but to kill her; horses' legs were nearly impossible to heal. It was the worst thing she felt she had ever done. She never forgave herself for that. Hopping upon the other horse's back, she rode off to Gerudo Valley.

When she arrived, she realized that nearly nothing had changed. The plank hanging over the tiny stream remained and the bridge over the huge cliff still ran across there, sturdy as it was all those years ago. Cantering over it, she couldn't help but smile as she found herself in Gerudo Fortress. Master was sitting on a chair outside. It looked like she was in a trance.

“Master! Master!” Malon cheered happily. “I returned like you promised!”

The other Gerudos gasped as they stared angrily at Malon and shoved her off her horse. The horse galloped off in fright.

“What did you do that for?!” Malon bawled, rubbing her aches from the fall to the ground.

“Have you any idea what you put Master through?!” one asked.

“What are you talking about?!” Malon queried.

“Master expected you to return to her many years ago. You kept her waiting. Every day, she would wait outside in her chair, daydreaming of you coming back to her! She's been broken-hearted all these years-“

“SILENCE!” A familiar voice thundered.

The Gerudo women obeyed and stopped yelling.

“Malon,” Master began, “I've been waiting a long time to see you again. What took you so long?”

“I'm sorry. I've been taking care of the ranch…and my kids.”

“You have…children?”

“Yes. I didn't want kids, but…Ivo made me. He threatened me, and…oh, that's not important. The point is…I'm back.”

“YOU BITCH! MASTER HAS BEEN THROUGH SO MUCH!” A Gerudo started up again.

“I said…SILENCE!” Master reiterated. “It is not Malon's fault! Now get back to work! I want some time alone with my friend…”

The Gerudo women muttered apologies and immediately went back to work.

“Don't mind them. They're loyal, but a bit too loyal if you know what I mean.”

“I am very sorry. Damn Ivo. Damn him! It's entirely his fault!”

Master put a finger to her lips. “Shhh. Come inside.”

Malon followed her inside. “I don't know if I even ever want to return or not.”

“You don't have to!”

“Huh? Aah!” Malon was thrown into a cell; in fact, it was the same cell those many years ago, during their first encounter.

“Nostalgic, huh?” Master commented. “Let us relive the past.”
