Author's Note: Before reading this story, you may want to keep in mind that I am only eleven years old and this is my first story. Also, everything in this story came from my mind, so it's action/adventure with absolutely NO romance in it.

Chapter One-Yousei Taijiya

Yousei Taijiya is an Elf. Not one of those stupid Christmas elves that are fat with beards, but the ones who are tall, are really good with a bow, and are probably by far the most intelligent of all races. He has sleek, white, shoulder length hair with no mustache or beard, icy black eyes that seems to pierce through one's soul, and his ears are pointed, like all elves. His nose is not long and broken as common among human men, but straight and unmarred.

Yousei lives in the Fukai Woods, near Hijouna, the City of Men. The Fukai Woods are a historic place where a great battle took place long ago. It was an illustrious struggle between the Winged Fiends and the Elves. This battle took place for six long months, but to this day the outcome is unknown. This is one of Yousei's life-long dreams, to discover the result of this war. His other dream is to become a demon-slayer, the best demon-slayer ever, actually. But to achieve this, he would need a magic sword, and these are impossible to get off the street.

" Hey Yousei," yelled Yousei's friend, Hikia, from across the road. " I've been thinking about this whole Great War thing, and you know what. Did you ever hear the story about Jakikien the great?" " No, I don't believe I have, and what exactly does it have to do with the Great War?" " Well, I think I better tell you the story. It all started years before the Great war, when a man named Jakikien quested to kill the great dragon Smagenoeo. He journeyed to the lair of the great beast and was awed at what he found. It was a room full of treasures, including a great sword of massive size. Jakikien took up this sword and used it to slay the dragon. As you know, any object used to slay a dragon is turned magical. I bet you could use this sword as your demon-slaying sword."

After many restless days Yousei thought he'd come up with the location of this dragon's lair. After mapping out the way, he decided it was time for him to begin his quest to claim the sword. He packed food, water, matches, a bow, tons of arrows, his map, and a compass. The night before he was to set of on his journey, Hikia came over. " Your not going without me, are you?" he asked. " Of coarse not, my friend. Who would I be to leave you behind on this quest if you are the one who told me about this sword?" exclaimed Yousei. " Great, than we shall set off tomorrow, and claim that sword."

Chapter Two- Hijouna, City of Men

The map that Yousei made was not the best of maps. It would take our two adventurers many months to get to the sword, and they still don't even know what awaits them at the lair of Smagenoeo, whether it is a great room full of treasures, or the lair of a different dragon. Not to mention, Yousei and Hikia would have to go through the most treacherous parts of the world, places like swamps, mountains, and great forests are all there to try and stop them. For now though, they just have to get to Hijouna.

" Hikia, you did bring a weapon for yourself, didn't you?" " Of course, I brought my father's mace, the one he got from the Falador mines." " Good, because we are definitely going to come across a not-so-happy beast along our trip, and I don't think it is possible to bring anything big down with just a bow."

The two continued their traveling for some time that day, only stopping for light meals of bread, honey, and water. They had been traveling across the fields surrounding their homeland, but soon those fields became sand and rock with little shrubbery. This was a sign that they were coming to the City of Men.

" Okay, we got through the fields and have reached a dessert. After we get over the dessert in about three days, the land will begin to slope upwards. At the top of the hill we will come upon Hijouna." This is what Yousei read from his map, and to Hikia it didn't sound too difficult to do. " Yousei, it is getting dark and cold. Don't you think we should settle down somewhere for the night." " Yes, only about one more mile and we may rest. But, just because this dessert is hot during the day doesn't mean it is hot during the night. It shall become quite cold actually."

So they traveled another mile through the sandy, windy dessert and settled down under a nice sized bush. They took turns being lookout in two-hour shifts until the sun began to rise. Then they ate a small but sufficient meal and set out again across the endless dessert.

" So, is it just me, or are you getting tired of honey, bread, and water everyday," complained Hikia. " It is getting bland, but that is just enough to hold us over until we get to the city. In the meantime, if you see anything you'd like to eat, feel free to kill it. Just don't forget, do not eat scorpions." So they continued on for a few more ours with song and talk of their homeland.

Suddenly, something jarred the bottom of Hikia's foot from beneath the sand. He jumped out of the way and pulled Yousei with him. They turned to look and saw a massive; ten-foot tall bear come out of the sand. But there was something different with this bear (besides the fact that it was huge). Its fur was a pale yellow color and there were strange markings around its eyes. " Hey Yousei, could we eat that?" " If we can kill it, and it doesn't kill us first, then yes."

Hikia pulled an enormous blue mace out from his bag and held it in a defensive position. " Yousei, go for its eyes and I'll start smashing in its legs!" yelled Hikia over the beasts loud, earth shaking roar. Yousei pulled out an arrow from his quiver and fired a shot at the beasts left eye. The shot missed, but went through its cheek. Meanwhile, Hikia had cut at the bear's legs so much all the fur and skin was missing. He then took the mace and threw it as hard as he could into the heart of the savage beast. It let out a terrible roar, and swiped one of its massive claws at Yousei. It struck him in the stomach, and he fell back, unconscious. Then, with all the strength he could get, he took his now blood-encrusted mace and slashed right at the terrible beast's already damaged legs. Hikia felt a great resistance, but then that force gave away and he flew after his mace. Then he saw it. The beast's legs were missing from the knee down. The beast dropped to the ground with a tremendous force, dead.

Hours later, Yousei awoke in the back of a horse drawn carriage." Yousei, you're awake. Great, I have so much to tell you. You remember that giant bear thing we were fighting. Well, It is called a Bearog. I killed it right after it knocked you unconscious. I made sandwiches. It has the Bearog meat and honey. Also, I skinned it and made us both capes. When we get to the city, we will be able to sell the furs for tons of money to spend on supplies there." " That's all great, but how did we get in here and when will we reach the city?" We will be at the city in a matter of hours. As for how we got in here, a guy was watching us fight and as soon as he saw the big old fiend drop he came and gave us a lift."

Yousei and Hikia sat in the back of the carriage for hours watching the dessert go by and talking about things to come in their adventure. " Why don't we ask the driver if he knows anything about what has happened to the lair of Smagenoeo. So they asked the driver and he told them this. " Many years back but before the war you two are talking about, a great dragon flew overhead in that direction. Everyone that lives in the city and saw it believes that it was heading to Smageneo's lair. That is all I know."

After all that traveling through the dessert, they finally reached Hijouna. They stared up at the tall military buildings and at all the homes and shops. Then they turned around and looked down the huge hill they would have had to climb. But they didn't care, because they reached the city.
