Tales of a WorldWalker
I run, and the wind swirls around me. Across rolling plains, through dense forest, and over vast savanna, these are the tracts I run. Silver fur and hair flying back from my speed, vitapyre flowing from the tip of my tail. My paws do not hit the ground so much as slide over it with grace.
In the many places I have traveled, people have called me by such names as Lightfoot, Windracer, She Whom the Air has Blessed, and many, many more.
They're all wrong, of course. I merely like to run.
My name is Zanitia, and I am a WorldWalker.
'A what?' you ask? I should laugh. Could you really understand? Can someone who is bound by only one universe really understand WorldWalking? The feel of worlds so new that they are still bubbling calderas, the sight of stars going nova right in front of you, the sounds and smells of thousands of cultures, in innumerable timelines.
Oh, alright, I'll give you a brief exposition.
The term "WorldWalker" was coined half a million years or so ago by Perigrinus, but before he had founded his clan or was even named that. A nice fellow, too. maybe I should pay him a visit soon. (If I can find him, that is; he is a Perigrinus, and lives up to the name.) Anyway, back then there were very few who could cross the boundaries between universes, much less multiverses. There were-- and are-- only two ways to do so: magically and mechanically, but mostly magically(the distance/power formulae dictated this). Then this fellow comes onto the scene with a cheap, mechanical way to cross the border between universes. (Unfortunately, Blue Line technology is still one of the more closely guarded secrets in the Otanverse.) He explored several universes, found a few surprises, and set up a 'DataNet' of satellites that tracked sentient life in the universes he'd been to. Being human (and male), he decided that he needed a name for what he did. Since the only worlds that he had found life on were variations of earth, I'm personally surprised that he didn't call it 'Terrawalking' or some such. (But then, I should know him better than to think he'd do some thing like that.) The term eventually spawned rules, condition, and a few privileges. Rules for the universes that were traveled to, conditions that designated what was a WorldWalker and what wasn't, and privileges for those who Walked the Worlds.
As I said, I am a WorldWalker.
Maybe you wonder at my freedom in speaking? Perhaps I should tell you of my travels.
