Zanitia
Library Research
I walk down the endless aisles, the old oak shelves holding countless leather bound books.
I believe my father was going after a contemporary appeal when he created the Library.
The Library is huge, but like any library, it is divided into sections and categories. And, as will all *good* libraries, it has places for just sitting and reading. Like the one I'm heading towards now. Curiously enough, the book underneath my arm is not a Chronicle. It is instead a story that has not been written down by the hand of a creative Sentient, but one that is being acted out even now.
It's a biography.
Its title reads: _Zanitia_.
I may be a bit foolish from time to time, but I *always* go back and take a good look at my mistakes. Like now, where I'm trying to find out when I got the idiotic idea that following Worldwalker Law was below me.
I come to an open space, a place where a few cozy couches, a pile of cushions, a couple of foot stools, and a bared sword, lying on a table. Uh-oh. Time to run!
I hope that it hasn't noticed me yet as I slowly back away and make a bid for my escape. Vain hope.
:Am I so repugnant to you, Child, that you seek to avoid me at all costs?: The voice is gravely with age, like that of an irascible old woman, but with a hint of humor, as one who knows she is right. She is the Unique blade Destiny, older than myself, my mother, and nigh every other Worldwalker. She has chosen to be wielded by my mother, Kana, the literal Incarnation of Order.
The gravely chuckle brings me out of my reverie. :Surprised you by being here, did I? Well Child, I wanted to talk to you, and knew that you would be coming this way soon.:
"You mean you projected that I would be here." I laugh in return as I move to sit. "Sometimes I think I should take you to see Mycroft Holmes. You two would be perfect for each other."
:That old bucket of bolts? I can calculate probability and odds faster than him any day. I've got more information on tap to boot, too. Speaking of Mister Holmes, I see that you've been reading up on the seven scenarios that I made for you.:
I'm understandably taken aback. Perigrinus hadn't told Mother about what he was doing, after all! "How did you...?"
:Come now Child, I wasn't forged yesterday! I've been keeping tabs on you for your little rebellion. I guessed what the Eldest wanted those scenarios for before I had even finished making them. Now then, tell me what you know of them. And, of course, which you prefer.:
I sit on the chair nearest the sword, and place my book down on the table next to the blade. I think for a moment on my seven options. "I'm still not sure which I prefer of my final two, actually."
:Well? Tell me how you narrowed it down.:
"For Velgarth it's pretty much a moot question. The situation is in the capitol of Valdemar. The Companions would sense me for who I was. And I'm not confidant enough doing it by proxy." I sigh, one down. "In either Tenchi scenario I would have the girls against me because they would thing I was after Tenchi as well. That makes it hard to talk to Ryoko, who is already a loner to begin with, or Washu, who would find me out sooner than the Companions ever could." Three down. "For the StarGate, they can win through with just a few decisions on their own. Your probability curve shows a good chance even without any more interference. As for the Evangelion... It just comes down to Shinji, doesn't it? There too, A few nudges would suffice." I pause again. "Which leaves me with the two choices that you wanted me to have. All the rest were just distractions, weren't they?"
She sighs. :Yes, Child, those were the two I wanted you to end up with. But, I am glad that you though the others through before discarding them. The Ranko timeline and the Sailor Moon timeline are particularly suited to you.:
"It comes down to a matter of opinion, doesn't it? I could choose to help one person, or many." I scoffed at the blade.
:Don't think on it in those terms, my dear. You'll just end up with a headache later. But if you truly want a comparison, look at it this way: Ranko dies in the Battle of the Corridors, or a world comes under slavery for a mere thousand years. Both have their repercussions, good and bad. And both were caused by the same person, too.: She chuckles again, and I am reminded of a rock crusher grinding up sandstone.
"That aside, which do *you* think I should rectify? And how probable is Ranko's death?"
:As she takes the place of Hazel Meade from that timeline's norm, her death is next to 99.98% guaranteed. Her training makes her bold enough to go at the head of the wave of defending Loonies, and she is killed. Her death and Ludmilla's death upset Manuel enough that the Revolution fails, and the colony on Luna dies of starvation a few years later.: A hesitation. Calculating maybe. :Updated probability: 99.99%. Not too pleasant.:
"But what about that SM timeline?"
:That's... complicated.:
"Un-huh. What about it? The synopsis you gave me only has a little bit of the puzzle, doesn't it?"
:Well, yes. It's a continuance line after the end of the Galaxia threat.:
"After the very end of the series? Wow. Don't get too many of those."
:No there isn't. Probably because there is only one way to go after that. Unless it's a crossed universe or a very unusual one.:
"This one isn't crossed. What haven't you told me?"
:You know that in SM timelines the Senshi referred to as the Outers have talismans of power? In this one, they did not originate with them.:
"That's happened before. One of the mages of the Kingdom makes them, then."
:Not in this one. In this timeline, they were made by a Worldwalker. That is the change.:
"I think I had better read up on this 'walker. What is her name?"
:Ery'ka, of Clan Perigrinus, Draco-Lupus, and Master class Sorceress of Earth.:
"Oh. Shit." If a Perigrinus had made those talismans, they would not be classed as Artifact Weapons, but Unique Weapons, like Destiny herself. "At least I know now which one I'm going to. If four Unique classed Weapons fall into the wrong hands..."
:So you have chosen.: Stated the sword. But to herself she thought, But there are more than just four...
