Fatal Fury Fan Fiction ❯ Fatal Fury: Terry and Sulia ❯ A Wandering Spirit ( Chapter 1 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

[Hello! J My name is R. Cybelle Gil and this is my fan fiction on the story of two of my fave characters from one of my fave anime movies. Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture. I loved the movie, but hated the ending. (Actually the ending was okay, but I didn't like the fact that Sulia died. No thank you. So…I fixed it. ^_^) I've added more to the story (almost like my own Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture 2). I've gotten my two fave characters, Terry and Sulia and given them a story of their own. I've also thrown in a new character to add some taste (and so Joe could have a chick of his own). Also, for those of you reading this that know about a certain anime called Dragonball Z/GT-you will love a small pun I've put in my story. Well, enjoy the tale and half fun reading this creation of mine…at least I hope you will! ^_~]

Terry and Sulia

A Wandering Spirit

Laela felt the presence of a spirit. That was not unusual for she was a medium and one of the best. But this was not the spirit she had summoned for the people before her. This was another spirit all together.

What do you want, spirit? I did not send for you, she said to the spirit in the only way you could speak to one. Through your own soul. Why are you here? The spirit only hummed above her, circling. Shaking her head mentally, Laela returned to the task of summoning of her customers' loved one.

Send them away.

Laela heard the soft voice in her mind, soothing and comforting. This spirit that interrupted her communication now wanted her to send her customers away? Whatever for?

Their loved one will not come. Send them away. I need you.

Knowing that she was going to get nowhere she opened her eyes to face the people before her. The young woman and her father stared at her intently, eagerly. This was not going to go well.

"I'm sorry," Laela said. "Another spirit is interrupting the process. It will not allow your husband's spirit to reach me, Mrs. Son."

"Can't you do anything?" the woman asked desperately. Laela shook her head. "Why don't you send this spirit away? I need to speak with my husband!"

Laela smiled sadly at the woman. "I am sorry, Mrs. Son. But when another spirit gets in the way of communication, I cannot breakthrough until I do what the spirit bids me. I am so sorry."

The father wrapped his arms around his daughter. "It's all right, Chichi. We'll find another way to contact Goku."

The woman named Chichi stared up at her father, tears glistening. "I want Goku back!"

"I know Chichi. I know."

Laela bit her lip as she watched the young woman and her father leave. If only this spirit hadn't come out of nowhere. Then she could have helped that poor widow. Laela shook her mind off the regretful thoughts and closed her eyes. She let her soul come in contact with that of the spirit that had interrupted.

What do you want? Laela asked.

Your help. I need to find my friends.

Who are your friends, spirit?

Find Joe Higashi. He is a great fighter. I will guide you to him. He will guide you to the others.

Where can I find this Joe Higashi?

At the tournament.

Laela opened her eyes. The spirit had stopped communication but she still felt its presence floating about. Laela sensed that this was going to be a long journey, so she stood up and went to pack some clothing and bare essentials. When she left her small apartment, she took a deep breath and allowed the spirit to guide her. The tournament.

Laela suddenly knew where this tournament was being held.

* * *

Joe Higashi smiled. This was going to be no problem. The local hero. Piece of cake. Joe's challenger was lean and strong, much like Joe, but he could tell right away that the young man challenging him wasn't going to be much trouble. He didn't have half of Joe's experience in the ring or in the street. This kid probably just got out of the dojo.

The ding of the bell sounded through the air. The challenger made the first attack. Bets passed around. Mistake, thought Joe.

Laela watched the man named Joe Higashi fight. He was really good. His dark brown hair, worn short and spiky, accented his strength. But he wasn't just strong. From his movements and the slightly visible scars you could see on his bare torso, she could tell he had experience in and out of the ring. And not exactly fair all of the time. Sweat glistened on his skin, but he seemed not to putting any strain on himself. His opponent on the other hand seemed to having plenty of trouble.

Laela had just come in when the fight began. The spirit immediately motioned to the champion. When Laela heard his name on the speaker, she knew. This was the Joe the spirit wanted. Laela could only stare. He was gorgeous and powerful. A chill ran up her spine as she watched him move. She could sense the spirit's laughter at her reaction to Joe. But what did she care? She couldn't hide anything from spirits, so why try?

Joe could feel her eyes on him. He didn't know which woman in the audience it was, but he could feel her eyes burning right through his skin. A shiver coursed through him as he landed another punch. After this fight he'd find her. He needed to.

The fight was over in five more minutes. The challenger suddenly gave a burst of energy and Joe retaliated in kind. That ended it. Joe could hear the screams of the crowd and the voice of his manager congratulating him, but he wasn't listening. He was searching the crowd for the one who gazed at him so intently.

He searched the crowd and suddenly met blazing violet eyes. Her hair hung in soft waves of auburn and she wore a dress that seemed to flow about her body. She seemed like a figment of a dream. They stared into each other's eyes, searching. Then, Joe grinned.

"Joe!"

Joe turned to see his manager growling at him. "What?" Joe asked in all innocence, and then turned back to the audience. But the vision was gone.

Grumbling, he turned away and strode toward the locker rooms, deaf to his manager's cries of outrage. When he entered he stopped short. She was there. Just standing there, looking like she would vanish in the next instant. Then she spoke.

"Are you… Joe Higashi?"

Laela stared at the fighter as he recovered from the shock of her presence. He regained his composure and lifted an eyebrow at her curiously. He grinned.

"Whoa, a pretty lady. I don't mind giving out my autographs. But if you're here for something else other than my autograph that's fine too…"

Laela looked surprised. How rude! The spirit made a muted noise that seemed to Laela like chuckling. The spirit obviously was not as surprised as she was with this man's rudeness.

"Sorry to burst your bubble, Mr. Higashi, but I'm not here for autographs or 'something else'. I'm here because I was sent here," Laela retorted.

Joe lifted an eyebrow. "Really, babe? Who sent you?"

"A spirit."

Joe blinked. Twice. Then burst out laughing. Laela became furious. How dare he laugh at her!

Terry Bogard.

Joe stopped laughing. He gazed at Laela strangely. "What did you say?"

Laela had not realized that the spirit had spoken through her till that moment. Whoever this Terry Bogard was, he was obviously important to the spirit and to Joe.

"The spirit spoke through me. I didn't say anything. It said, 'Terry Bogard'. Do you know him?"

Joe looked skeptical. "You don't?" Laela shook her head. "Yeah, right. You said his name, so you must know Terry. I wonder why he didn't mention a cutie like you, though."

Laela rolled her eyes heavenward. How was he supposed to help her? "Can you take me to Terry Bogard? If you can't I understand…"

"What do you mean by 'can't'? I can take you to Terry. But why do you want to go?"

"I need to speak with him and his friends…" The spirit overwhelmed Laela at that moment. Joe watched the woman's eyes close and her voice take on an echo. "Andy, Mai, Joe."

Laela shook her head and Joe stared at her strangely. "All right. I'll take you to Terry and the gang, just don't do that again."

"Do what?" Laela asked. Realization dawned at his comic face. "Oh, that. I can't control that. It wasn't me. It was the spirit."

"Right."

* * *

Terry Bogard stared out into the night, his eyes haunted and alone. He had had a disturbingly confusing dream the night before. He dreamt of his first love, his Lily. He had dreamed of feeling her in his arms once more. But then the dream had shifted and he remembered her death.

Terry gazed sightlessly, the pain shifting and turning within him. Every woman he ever loved died. First it was his beautiful Lily. And then… His heart constricted in his chest. Sulia. The beautiful, lonely, brave Sulia. She had risked her life for his, to save the world and everyone she cared about, and she had died in his arms. Tears slid unbidden and uncaring down his cheeks. That was when his dream changed again.

It was then Sulia who he held in his arms. Sulia, who drove away the demons of Lily's death. But why? Why and how did Sulia manage to take his dream and change it? He remembered the vision of Sulia with beautiful brilliant wings reaching down to him as he tried to reach onto her and hold her tight. But she had faded into the darkness like she had so many times before. He took in a deep breath and held it as his heart clenched. He heard a whisper in his mind. The sweet melodic voice of Lily. Sulia had healed the pain of Lily's death, but then she had died. Every woman he loved. Dead.

Go.

The voice of Lily sounded in his head. Go? Go where, he thought. To the moon, to the stars, or into the arms of another who will die because of me?

Go to Sulia.

Terry's heart clenched in him as he remembered the beautiful gold eyes that had shone with life and love for him. Sulia's dead.

Suddenly, Terry felt a healing presence around him. Lily's presence. She overwhelmed him, giving him hope, giving him the will to search. She lives.

Terry's heart began to pound. Sulia alive? His heart thundered. The beautiful, sweet girl who had healed his torn heart and gave him the will to love was alive? The girl who had loved him and rescued him even from beyond death? Or was the voice in his head a hallucination of too many nights without her kindness, without her warmth. Sulia had helped heal him from Lily's death, but no one could heal the pain caused by Sulia's death… but if she was alive…?

She is. Go to Andy and Mai. Sulia will be there.

Terry didn't know why he believed the voice, knowing it was probably his own self-induced hallucination. But something in him sprang with hope. His heart pounded with life. His soul began to sing with desire for the girl to whom he had given his soul, the girl who had stolen it with a smile from her brilliant eyes. He knew no one could replace Lily in his heart, but there was only one he could love now; only one that gave him life. And if she was alive… He had to see; he had to find out if it were possible.

Sulia. His angel.
