Chapter 24

A Summoner's Pain

High atop the tallest tower in the world, Yunie outweighed her options. She could jump off the Eiffel Tower to her death, thereby preventing Seymour from accomplishing his goal or she could sit here and wait for her guardians to come and kick Seymour's ass but by then it would probably be too late and the world would once again meet the face of Sin.

Either option didn't have a very good outcome to it.

She looked to the spirits within her heart but they seemed at a lose themselves. On one hand they wanted their summoner to summon them so that they could tear Seymour to shreds but they knew their summoner wasn't strong enough to withstand all of them appearing…at least not yet. On the other, the hand held the greater good, they wanted their summoner to die so that Seymour wouldn't have control over her.

The entire situation looked grim, both to Yunie and the Aeons. How in the world were they going to get out of this mess?

Anzu walked into the room which Yunie was kept in with a smug look on her face. Didn't she understand what Seymour wanted to do? Didn't she understand at all that Seymour was going to destroy everything? Including her!?

“Well…you still look puny from the last time we met.” Anzu said as she sat down in a nearby chair. “I'm surprised it was easy to grab you…” She snorted. “Those idiots need to wake up.”

Yunie stared at the misguided young girl calmly. Perhaps if she tried to talk to Anzu?

“They weren't expecting an attack in a holy place…” Yunie replied. “I'm surprised you even thought of your friends though…To me it sounds as if you wanted them to stop you.”

Anzu glared at her. “Shut up. They aren't my friends. They used me to get the Pharaoh to come to his senses and look what happens! They complete ignore me after all those things we went through. It's all the Pharaoh's fault.”

Ah…so this is about Yami…Yunie thought. Yugi did mention Anzu's infatuation with the once spirit of the millennium puzzle. Now it all made sense…Anzu felt used and betrayed. It was like she was no longer needed in their group…She did her job now she was nothing more than a distant memory.

“Why would Yami be to blame? It's not his fault either…As I remember what Yami has said…he did what he needed to do to protect everyone, including you. Personally I think you're jealous. Jealous of what Yugi and Yami have between one another.” Yunie stared straight at Anzu. “You want the Aeons because it would be like having another person with you at all times, like Yugi had Yami.” She smiled sadly. “I'm sorry you feel so alone…”

SLAP! The sound reverberated throughout the room. Yunie held her cheek where a red hand print had formed. Anzu glared daggers at her.

“You don't know anything!” She shouted at the summoner. “You don't know what it's like to be tossed out like trash! Those guys…I thought they were my friends but NO…I was just another ditzy little girl who had a crush on a 5000 year old ghost! And even HE didn't seem to care that I had spent and entire day with him when he was so damn confused about himself! I was nothing more than a stupid tool to get his damn memories back and once he got them back I was worthless!”

Yunie glared hard at Anzu. This girl thought the entire world revolved around her! Seymour must've not told Anzu what happens to a summoner. Well, maybe the truth will knock some sense into the brown haired harlot…besides, Yunie wanted to yell at her anyway.

Yunie stood right in Anzu's face. It was time to let it all out…too bad for Anzu.

“In a way I'm being used as well, Anzu. Or didn't Seymour not tell you that? Did he not tell you what happens to a summoner once the Aeons feel they aren't needed anymore? The summoner DIES, Anzu…I'm going to be EATEN by these things that are inside me. So do you DARE tell me about being some tool…because in a why I'm one as well…At least you got to LIVE once they were done with you. I'm going to DIE! You hear me? I AM GOING TO DIE!” The tears threatened to fall from Yunie's eyes. “I'm not going to be able to see my parents again, nor am I going to be able to see my new friends again…The Aeons may be creatures of light, Anzu…but like any creature, they need food and a summoner IS their food! Don't you get it Anzu. NO ONE wants to be a summoner because they know what it means, they have no will of their own, they must abide by whatever the Aeons tell them, even if it means hurting those the summoner loves. It's a fate worse than anything, Anzu. A fate that I would never want my worst enemy to have.” She sat back down and placed the staff in her lap. “Your friends have told me that they would've given themselves to the Aeons if they chose you, Anzu.”

It was true, after the first battle with Anzu, as they headed toward the next town. Yugi asked them all what they thought they would do if Anzu really was the next summoner instead of Yunie. All at once they looked at each other and said the exact same thing.

“I would take them unto myself before letting them take her.”

Though they didn't seem to show it, they all cared for Anzu's well being, except for a few exceptions of course…those exceptions being Seito and Bakura. Though Anzu annoyed them all… Deep down they all saw her as a friend, a friend that was there as they went through all that mess with the Millennium items. It was a bond that only very good friends had…one that Yunie was developing with them at the moment.

“They would die for you, Anzu…just as they would for me.” Yunie replied. Anzu had gone silent after Yunie's rant. The brown haired girl had sulked into her chair, her hair covering her eyes. “They are still and will forever be your friends…Remember that.”

Then the door opened and the vein of Yunie's existence walked in. Seymour thought he had won…the thought he could get everything now.

“It's time, Lady Yunalesca.” The Guado smirked. “Time to reveal the true destiny of the world.”

Yunie stood and stared at the tall, ancient man.

“In the words of my guardian known as Bakura.” She stared hard at the blue haired man. “Fuck you.”

The glass windows shattered then and the guardian in question smirked at Seymour with his sword on his shoulders.

“Couldn't have said it better myself…”

“Yunie!” Marik and the others used all their strength and pushed Seymour aside. They all raced toward their summoning friend and faced Seymour, weapons at the ready. All the while, Anzu was still sitting in her chair, her head still downcast.

Seymour glared at the guardians with much anger in his eyes.

“You wish to die? Very well…” He snapped his fingers and all found themselves on the roof of the building atop the Eiffel Tower. “Let's see how long you last this time…”

Meanwhile, Anzu was left alone in the room…her head raised. A tear fell down her cheek.

“God…I'm so sorry…” And she fell into a crying heap on the floor.

Those tears were for Yunie…and the sacrifice Yunie will eventually have to make.
