Chapter 6

An hour later found Axys and Yazoo unstrapping and toting bags into the mansion. Axys stood in the foyer looking up at the second story.
“Where am I putting these?” She asked no one in particular.
“Like I said, sisterdear, you stay with Yazoo until he's tired of you. I'm sort of surprised that he's not already.” Kadaj said from behind her. She scowled at him to show him that he didn't scare her.
“'ZOO!” Kadaj said as Yazoo walked in the door. “Are you keeping her or what? I say we should just kill her . . . the injection was just to hurt her anyway . . . come on, tell me you don't want her so I can kill her!”
Yazoo saw Axys' eyes begin to go hollow again at Kadaj's harsh words. He refused to let anything more happen to his love, even if she didn't know that.
“I want her.” He said without hesitation, interrupting Kadaj's ranting about all the different ways he could kill her.
“Aw, for how long, Yazoo? I reallywanna kill her!”
“Until I decide that I don't anymore, Kadaj. If you mustkill something there's a woman that owns a clothing store in town that was rather irritating. Go kill her.”
Kadaj pouted as Yazoo took Axys' hand and led her up the stairs and to his room. He left her for a moment, returning with the rest of her bags.
“You didn't even hesitate . . . why?” Axys asked when he came back. He didn't answer, just left her alone again. This time, when he came back, Loz was with him and they were carrying the bed from Kadaj's room, and Axys could hear Kadaj complaining behind them. When Loz and Yazoo positioned the bed, Loz left, allowing Kadaj to enter carrying his bureau. Loz came back with a matching vanity. They took Yazoo's small bed and left for the last time to take it to Kadaj's room. All the while Yazoo and Axys were silent.
When they were alone, Yazoo locked the door and slowly turned to face her.
“You're mine, now.” He said, very slowly gliding to her. “Theywon't touch you anymore. All mine. . .”
“Yazoo . . . “ she trailed off, truly afraid. “You're scaring me . . . “
He nuzzled her neck. “Mm, not nearly enough.”
“You get off on fear, don't you?”
“Is it that obvious?” He asked, nipping at her earlobe and making her gasp.
She pushed her fear aside for a moment.
“You didn't answer my question: Why didn't you hesitate? Why didn't you just . . . kill me? I'm just a toy, right?”
His arms dropped from her waist and he turned away from her.
“No. Not to me.” He sat down on the edge of the larger bed. “I'm sorry that I hit you the other day, and I'm sorry for all the other times I hurt you, too.”
Axys was speechless. She walked to him and stood between his knees. She ran her fingers through his silky hair, brushing it out of his face. “What are you talking about?” She asked, softly.
He turned away from her and was silent for a moment. Just when Axys was about to give up and go back to putting her clothing away, he spoke.
“I love you.” Confessed as though it were a grave sin.
She stood there in shock. Should she believe it possible that he truly did return her feelings? This . . . killer?
“You're fucking with me.” She said, sadly.
“No, I'm not `fucking with you' as you so eloquently put it. I love you.” He stood and started advancing on her as she backed away from him.
“I don't want to love you . . . I've tried to ignore it . . . I want to see you as they do-“ he motioned toward the door. “-I want to want to kill you, but I don't. I want to be with you. Hold you. Protect you. Love you. I want-“
“I love you, too.” Axys said, interrupting him. Yazoo froze.
“You never showed . . . “ he trailed off.
“Well of course I had to hide it! I thought you'd kill me if you knew! Why do you think I always did what you wanted? It wasn't the gun to my head-okay, well, that helped-but it was because I wanted to.” She gently wrapped her arms around his neck. “I love you . . .”
Yazoo gave in to hope. He wrapped his arms around her waist and lowered his lips to hers. The kiss was so right. They fit each other perfectly. He pushed her against the wall by the bed and threaded his fingers through hers; bringing her hands up level with her head. The soft kisses continued until Axys felt a hard heat pressing against her belly.
“Take me to bed, Yazoo, please?” Axys asked against Yazoo's deceptively smooth lips.
He readily complied, pulling her from the wall and gently lowering her to the bed. Their clothes disappeared, and he elegantly dropped onto her, sliding into her in one long stroke.
They made slow, sweet love. Soft moans mingled with gasping pants as their bodies rocked together in a rhythm as old as time itself. As Axys reached her climax, she called out his name, wrapping her arms and legs around him and squeezing tightly.
When he found his own release, he muffled his cry of completion by biting into the nape of her neck.
Suddenly, the spot where he bit her began to glow, the dark bruise he left behind transforming into a small, raised scar, shaped like the letter “J” in calligraphy.
“What just happened?!” Axys asked, afraid of the rush of energy that flowed through her body.
“I . . . I think that Mother . . .” Yazoo couldn't find the words.
Axys reached up and felt the scar that ran across her otherwise flawless skin.
“A . . . blessing? From Jenova?” She said, her voice soft, wondering.
“Yes, I think so. And don't call her that.” Yazoo scolded. “She's your mother now.”
“Is it her, then?” Axys asked. Yazoo stared at her, waiting for her to elaborate. “This . . . pull that I feel. This . . . need for . . . something that I don't understand.”
He nodded his head. “Yes. She calls to us. Her children. She waits for us to find her.” He looked at Axys, instantly feeling despair when he saw that her beautiful eyes were once again hollow. Then, without any warning, she started to sob, and he felt even worse. He pulled her close.
“I'm sorry, Axys . . . so sorry . . . I can never . . . I'm sorry!” He whispered into her hair as she cried.
Slowly, her sobs faded into soft gasps, which faded into nothing. Yazoo looked down at her to find that she had fallen asleep. He was about to join her when he heard a soft knock at the door. He carefully slid out from under her, redressed, and tiptoed to the door, finding Loz waiting for him.
“There's something you should see.” Loz said, dragging him to the kitchen, where there was a beautiful woman with long, silver hair sitting at the table waiting for them. She was surrounded in glowing green light.
Yazoo fell to his knees on the floor. “Mother!” He choked out.
“Sit down, boys. We need to talk.”
