Final Fantasy - All Series Fan Fiction ❯ Always a Summoner ❯ Always a Summoner ( Chapter 1 )
DISCLAIMER: Yuna, Seymour, Tidus and the gang aren't mine. I wouldn't mind owning Jecht, but sadly, they're all Square's.
A/N: I don't know, really. I found a really old version of this written when I first went to Macalania Temple (and wasn't that Cloister of Trails evil?), so I found, revised, and am now in the process of posting. Go figure. Anyhow, it's Yuna's POV while she's praying for Shiva in Macalania, after she's gone to see Seymour, but before the party barge in to fight him. :D …and sorry if I stole anyone's title name. Highly unoriginal, I know
Always a Summoner
By Loki-chan (loki_loire@hotmail.com)
"Fayth of Shiva, come before me. Fayth of Shiva, come before me," The summoner known as Yuna chanted quietly. Bowed down before a statue, the youthful girl found focus nearly impossible.
Maester Seymour killed Lord Jyscal. Maester Seymour killed Lord Jyscal. Seymour killed Jyscal. Oh, Yevon, Seymour murdered his own father. Yuna mentally shuddered. Is this what the hierachy of the Church of Yevon really is? Not a sacred order, but a place where patricide and deciet are acceptable? No, she reassured herself. Maester Mika, Maester Kinoc and Maester Kelk mustn't know. Of course they wouldn't know; how could they? They three, at least, uphold the teachings of Yevon. Mustn't they?
"Fayth of Shiva, come before me. Fayth of Shiva, come before me,"
I am a summoner, Lord Braska's daughter, no less. I have to conduct myself as one. But… how? If I report Maester Seymour's murder to the other Maesters, they might think that I'm the one deceiving them. And, she ruefully added. I may ruin our relationship with the Guados forever. A summoner going around telling people that Maester Seymour, son of Jyscal, who pioneered human-Guado relations, killed his own father… if I didn't know better, even I would say that was traitorous!
"Fayth of Shiva, come before me. Fayth of Shiva, come before me,"
The sphere… I left it in my room in the temple. If someone happened to glance at it, and replay it, the consequences would be horrible. Especially if Tidus saw it. He'd insist upon rushing in and fighting Maester Seymour, and take Lulu, Wakka, Rikku, Kimahri and Sir Auron along with him! No, I have to deal with Maester Seymour alone. He has asked my hand in marriage, and yet I wonder if it is because of who I am or what I am. A maester and a summoner wedding would bring great joy to Spira, but I just can't go through with it.
"Fayth of Shiva, come before me. Fayth of Shiva, come before me,"
No matter how much happiness it would bring to the people… I would be living a lie. Maester Seymour has so horribly pervaded the Order of Yevon that I couldn't possibly live with myself if I did marry him. No, it still stands, I'll have to deal with Maester Seymour, maybe even… kill him. Killing a Maester who'd murdered a previous Maester… would that be a crime in front of the Order of Yevon? Would it be a crime in front of Yevon himself?
"Fayth of Shiva, come before me. Fayth of Shiva, come before me,"
Maybe all of this is some horrible misunderstanding… maybe the sphere that Lord Jyscal gave me wasn't really his, and maybe that wasn't even Lord Jyscal's spirit at all. No, that can't be. Maester Seymour essentially admitted to it earlier, so I can't excuse it.
"Fayth of Shiva, come before me. Fayth of Shiva, come before me,"
What would my father do in this situation? Would he relay the message to the other Maesters…? Or would he just try to kill Maester Seymour by himself? Maybe I should just call off the wedding and pretend I never knew. No, in the eyes of Yevon, I would be as guilty as he. Father, I need guidance!
"Fayth of Shiva, come before me. Fayth of Shiva come before me,"
No, I'll just have to do the honourable thing by Yevon… seek vengance in place of Lord Jyscal, and continue on with my pilgrimage. No matter how many things happen in between, I have to do the Final Summoning, even if it will cost me my life.
"Fayth of Shiva, come before me. Fayth of Shiva, come before me,"
The Final Summoning… Sir Auron is the only guardian I've heard of in history who has returned from it alive. I can't help feeling that he's hiding something from even me about it, but… no, why would he be? Aside from me, Sir Auron is the most committed to the Final Summoning… Rikku still believes she can talk me out of it, Lulu and Wakka pretend to be supportive, but inside I know they don't want me to do this. Kimahri… well, we can never tell what he's thinking, but he never seemed too happy about the idea, and Tidus… Tidus just doesn't know what's happening.
"Fayth of Shiva, come before me. Fayth of Shiva, come before me,"
Whatever happens next, I can't forget my true path. Whether I emerge from this Temple of Macalania a murderess or a newly-wed, I will always be a summoner.
