Chapter 6.

The cup shuffled out of the pile of snow that had landed on her and completely covered her.

"That's not funny." She huffed to the candlestick.

Irvine gathered up more snow into balls to throw at her but at the last minute he turned and threw it at Zell.

"Hey, no fair I'm not playing remember?"

"Why not?" The cup asked.

"Yeah come on Zell. I bet you could make snowballs so big that Selphie would be digging out for the whole day."

The blonde chuckled at Irvine's insane grin.

"That's so mean and you're supposed to be my best friend, you jerk!"

Angelo ran up to Zell dropping a stick at his feet, tugging at his heels. The little footstool leapt over snowdrifts happily.

"See? Angelo wants you to play."

The short, blonde picked up the stick and throw it. The footstool sped across the snow-covered lawn after the stick.

Zell sat down with a sad smile; he was strangely quiet and subdued. The cup nudged the candlestick then pointed in Zell's direction.

"You okay?"

"I really like it here; I'm going to miss you guys when I leave."

Irvine's eyes went wide. "Leave?"

"Yeah, I can't stay here forever."

"Why not? You said you liked the castle way better than your village."

"I do but-"

"Haven't got someone waiting for you have you?"

"Only my dad."

"No girlfriend, boyfriend?"

"Nah, but I can't leave my dad to live alone in the village."

Both his friends nodded in understanding and sorrow. They didn't know exactly how to break the spell but it must have something to do with love. At least it always happened that way in fairy tales. But of course this was no fairy tale, the ugly sorceress Rinoa would have scared all the little kiddies to death.

"Hey, you could always invite your dad to live here with us."

The candlestick gaped at the cup; he slapped a hand over the cup's mouth and pulled her to one side.

"Irvy what are you doing?"

"Are you crazy? You can't ask more people to live here without asking Squall!"

"Why not?

"He'd kill us!"

Selphie put her cup hands on her hips. (If she had any). "We are trying to help him, he should be grateful to us! Zell could help break the spell so we've got to keep him here, and if Mr Moody can't see that then tough cause I don't want to be a cup for the rest of my life!"

That was the most angry Irvine had ever seen her. "We'll get our bodies back, don't worry."

"We need Zell and he needs his dad so his dada should stay here. If Squall gets annoyed tell him it's my fault, he's afraid of my insane cheeriness." She grinned.

"Fine, but I want nothing to do with it."

The little cup marched back to Zell. "Sorry about that, as I was saying your father can come and live with us."

"Are you sure? Squall won't like it."

"He'll be fine especially if you tell him."

"What?! ME?!"

"He likes you."

"He has a funny way of showing it."

"We can be one big happy family!" She hopped up and down excitedly.

Squall watched the blonde boy throw a stick for Angelo and he smiled. It had a long time since he had had company; it was nice to have a person in the castle again. It was also nice to have a person who didn't run screaming from him. Zell had just seemed curious, Squall knew the furniture were trying to set him up with Zell. It could be worse, Zell was a cute blonde with nice eyes and he had an ability to be cheerful when everyone else felt suicidal, like Selphie only without the insanity. Squall knew Zell would want to leave soon, maybe it was for the best before the blonde realized why the others wanted him to stay and he then he would leave and he's hate them all for trying to get him to love a monster.

He jumped slightly when the door was pushed open and the door lay down in front of the door.

"When's he leaving?" Squall asked.

"He might not."

"What?!"

"Selphie's asked his father to stay here as well."

"The beast rolled his eyes. "Great."

"Oh wait. You're not supposed to know yet so when he tells you act surprised."

The beast nodded absently.

"Do you want him to leave? You could be friendlier ya know."

"Whatever." Squall walked, purposely stepping on Nida.

"Ouch, I'm tired of getting walked on; you better break the spell quickly!"
