Chapter 8.

Zell opened the door as quietly as possible then he creep down the hallway on tiptoes. Zell had been glad that his father had come to stay with them, so now he didn't have to leave. But Laguna followed Zell around everywhere, he had a little trouble settling into the castle, he jumped everything the furniture spoke to him, Zell had seen him talk to the clock a few times but that was it. This morning his dad had woke him up and followed him to breakfast, and then to the garden. Zell had finally managed to escape but he had to be really quiet and he didn't know where to go.

"Zell! Where are you?"

The blonde looked around like a deer in headlights. He opened the nearest door and ducked inside. The room was dark, so that Zell could only make out the outlines of things. Everything was covered in a white sheet. The blonde stood facing the door, when a pair of feet appeared under the door he backed up until he hit something solid and furry.

Zell spun round to meet Squall's questioning look.

"I'm sorry, but I trying to hide from my dad." He whispered.

"I thought you wanted him here."

"I do but he's driving me nuts. He won't leave me alone."

"Zell? Are you in there?"

"HELP!" The blonde gave the beast his pleading look.

Squall walked over to a suit of armour and twisted the head. A passageway opened in the wall.

"Wow, cool."

The beast pushed Zell inside and then followed.

Laguna opened the door and looked inside. The room was empty and dark. "Hmmm, I could've sworn he came in here...."

The hidden passageway was lit with lanterns that hand from the ceiling. The beast walked along bent because he was too tall for the small alley. Zell past a mirror on one of the stone walls. He thought it was odd to see it there, it looked so out of place.

"What's this doing here? I didn't think you were that vain."

"This is the mirror of truth."

"Why do you have it?"

"You have to have fairy tale gadgets in a fairy tale story."

Zell stood in front of it. "What's so special about it. It's not doing anything."

The beast waved his paw in front of the mirror; the glass showed a human hand with the fingernails painted black.

"Wow."

The little blonde stood to one side to give Squall space to stand beside him. Zell stared in awe. The mirror showed a blonde boy standing beside a brunette who wasn't much taller then Zell. The tattooed blonde put a hand up to the glass to touch the other boy.

"Wow."

Squall gave Zell a gentle shove. "Come on, let's continue."

"Does anyone know about this place?"

"Just me... and now you, don't tell anyone."

Zell shook his head.

The passage continued until they came to a room with dark red carpet and walls, lanterns lit the room slightly but it was hard to light a room of such a dark colour.

"I come down here to get away from the nosy furniture; they have a way of listening to other people's conversations, especially the doormat."

"What do you do down here all by yourself?"

Squall smirked slightly before opening a large cupboard. Zell's eyes went wide when Squall opened the doors. "Wow. You have a PS2 and a N64."

Squall pulled out a box and tipped loads of games into the red sofa.

Zell dug out Final Fantasy 6,7 & 9. "Wow, I love the Final Fantasy series! Do you have FF10?"

The beast shook his head. "I was already a beast when it came out. I did think of going as a beast to frighten the owner so I could take all the games."

Zell looked at Squall to see if he was serious but the beast stared back dead pan.

"I wonder what happened to FF8, why didn't that come out over here?"

"Yeah, we've probably missed the best game ever."

"Do people really get scared of you?"

"Of course they do, I'm the ferocious beast."

Zell burst out laughing. "You? Ferocious?"

Squall seemed to take offence. "I'm mean. I can be scary."

"Only if people are afraid of 'Whatever."

Squall frowned. "I've got fangs, fur, and I'm really tall. What's not to be afraid of?"

"Well for one I've seen you in a tutu, secondly you have computer games and you don't look very scary."

"I do."

"You don't. Okay so at first I thought you were dangerous but I got over that." Zell sat on the sofa and picked up a controller. The beast stood behind Zell.

Hmmm, the blonde had turned his back on him like he was a normal person.

"So, you trust me then?"

"Whatever." Zell turned and smirked at the beast.

"That's my word you can't use it."

"Shut up and play the FF9 battles with me."

"You don't like a lot like your dad."

"We're not blood related, he adopted me."

"Didn't he have kids?"

"Well, he sort of had a daughter but that's a long story. You see this is what happened........."
