Chapter Two: Reunion

She finally slowed in her running. "I don't remember this place being so hot…" She walked a little more and bent over, leaning on her knees. "It's somewhere around here." Lisa tried digging around in the sand, but to no avail. She was beginning to lose hope. "Maybe I just imagined I sensed it. It could be that I'm finally here again, and my imagination is going wild." Lisa dug three more holes around where she felt the concentrated life. She wiped her brow and tried one last time. To her surprise she struck something, in turn jamming her finger. Lisa immediately recognized the flawless golden surface right away and begin digging more feverishly.

She eventually uncovered the unassembled Demon Gun and it's wielder. Lisa kneeled near the dark body and checked his chest and mouth for signs of life. After finding none, she fell back in the sand and realized with horror that he was dead. "No…This can't be…" Hot liquid ran down her face. "All this time I waited…and now this…" The body shifted, though Lisa didn't notice through her tears. Kaze got up and stared down upon her. She turned her head and was taken aback. "Y-you're alive!" The man didn't seem to care. Then, a despairing thought ran through her head. Oh no…What if he lost his memory like the last time? How is he still alive? She stood up and dusted herself off. "How are you still alive?"

The tall man's face didn't change as he continued to stare blankly. "I don't know."

Lisa backed up. "Do you remember anything?"

Kaze just stared coldly at her, the pillars of soil playing off his single sunglass lens.

"Who are you!?"

"…"

He has lost his memory…It's worse then I thought…

She lowered her head and started crying again, but something caught her eye. There were plants growing around her feet. These weren't here before. She tried to step over them, but they quickly shot up and entwined her ankles. Lisa fell onto the ground surprised and with a mouth full of sand. She heard a few gunshots, and the weeds around her ankles were cleared. Then she heard his dark voice.

"Run." He stood with his arm erect, gun ready in hand.

Lisa stumbled behind him, "I won't leave you. You've saved my life countless times."

Kaze said nothing, and continued to fire.

The plants hissed and shrank, but even more vines grew in their places. Then out of a nearby pillar, a large carnivorous plant emerged. Its head resembled a Venus Fly Trap. Plant growth continued to come out of the sand. Most of it consisted of long thorny vines. The huge plant towered over them, being a few stories high.

A strong gust blew through the desert. Kaze's hair blew back, and the Demon Gun emerged from his cloak. The glowing orb shone against the black cloth. "It moved… Soil! My strength!"

The words were all to familiar to Lisa's ears, and she shielded him from the whipping vines with her Kigenjitsu, while the gun transformed.

"Demon Gun, dissolve." He pointed at the large plant. "I've chosen the appropriate Soil for the likes of you!"

Lisa noticed his belt was full of bullets again.

He grabbed the first bullet and flipped it in the gun. "The protecting earth that makes even the heavens cry, Gaia Brown!" He grabbed the second, "The hidden quiet passion, Deep Vermillion." Then, he ejected the third bullet straight into the gun, "Finally, the everlasting vitality of life, Ever Green!" His heart beat wildly within the gun, and the Soil drill spun rapidly. "Crumble! Summoned Creature! Titan!" The gun fired with a loud dull boom, though there was no kick to it. The beautiful colors of the bullets combined, and hence the Titan was formed. It began wrestling with the large plant, trying to uproot it.

Lisa watched in awe as she always did when she witnessed a summon. The plant was now fighting for its life, and thrashing its brush around violently. Lisa wasn't fast enough, and took a blow from a thorny vine, leaving a long cut along her side, and knocking her unconscious.

The plant was fully uprooted, and withering in the desert sun. Kaze looked at the woman at his feet, her outfit stained with blood. He picked her up, very carefully as not to make her wound worse. He followed the footprints she left when coming to find him.

He felt as though he had awoken from a dream, a peaceful one. He had dreamt he was in Aura's arms, her gentle embrace. But when he was uncovered, he awoke, and her smiling face faded in his mind's eye. Why? Why did I come back? He reviewed his memories, and wondered why he wasn't dead. I sacrificed my life, yet I'm alive again. What of the others? What of Moogle and Ru? Kumo… He laid Lisa gently by the pit in the sand where her footprints ended. The others were looking for her, but he knew they'd come back soon.

Lisa awoke in the ship's medical room. She felt drained of energy, and when she tried to sit up, the cut along her side pulsed. She applied pressure to it to subside the pain. Merith walked in and washed her hands.

"Good morning Lisa."

Lisa looked at her questioningly.

Merith shrugged. "We just found you by the hole in the tunnel, and you were bleeding badly. Do you remember anything?"

Lisa thought a moment, and it all came back to her. "Yes I do…"

"What happened?"

Lisa looked sad and sat silently.

Merith smiled, "All right, I understand. But it is time to change your bandages. Lisa rolled over and allowed her to sanitize the wound and change her bandages.

"I found him your majesty…Well actually that pesky woman found him for me."

The count smiled curiously, "So he's alive is he? And you took care of him right?"

Helba smiled nervously, "Errr…no. He still has the Demon Gun, your highness….My baby didn't have a chance."

The tyrants face twisted, "This is bad. We need to think of a way to kill this man. He's corrupting my soon to be order."

Oscar wiggled, "Your highness, allow me to start reconquering the rest of the Inner World?"

Makenshi's crossed face smiled again. "Very good Oscar. And the rest of you, you should follow his example. Now go, grant me back my place of God."

Lisa was finally up and around, and helped out on chores in the ship. "Say Cid, I never got around to asking. But why do you need to use the dimensional tunnel if Sylvia can fly?"

"Though we could do without the tunnel, it's much faster then flying from world to world."

"Oh I get it. So where are we headed next?"

"You remember the old Comodin base, in the fruit village?"

Lisa nodded and continued cleaning.

Before she knew it, they were in the village. Nav allowed the men to eat the fruit of the village, for they've only eaten instant and packaged food while away from a base. Lisa went and did a little exploring herself. She noticed many of the houses and structures were rotting, or in pieces. She walked into a nearby bar. "Um, can anyone tell me what happened in this village?" Lisa was answered by silence, and depressed murmurs.

One of the cloaked figures stood up, "You must leave now. Go back to the outside…He's back, he's back!!!" All the people began to moan and wale.

Lisa's eye grew wide. He's back!? The moaning and crying grew louder and Lisa ran out of the giant watermelon in shock. The Count's not dead? How did he survive? How did he…As she was walking down towards the original base, the ground began to rumble. "What's this energy!?" She recognized it as one of the Count's subordinates. She looked up and a huge monster broke a larger whole in place of the one Shiroi Kumo left. The large creature had blade sharp claws, and was apparently chewing on a humungous strawberry. "So that's what's been destroying the village!"

On the monster's back a bluish figure stood up. "You, woman! You know where he is don't you? Tell me, and you'll be rewarded with your life."

Lisa concentrated her energy, and was preparing to summon the Mana Beast. "Brimming from within, with my life, return with energy to back where it belongs!" The long beast entwined itself around the monster.

Pisto laughed. "Makenshi had the nerve to do me in the last time, but his highness has been generous to me. But you should've learned from the last time you tried this." He shot the Mana Beast with his Blue Elenium gun, and it began to thrash about.

Lisa somehow half expected something like this to happen. Her summon was only a distraction. The blue elenium may posses the summon, but there's no saying it wouldn't attack Pisto as well. Lisa yelled at everybody to return to the ship. They had to leave immediately. Eventually everyone was on the ship, and it took off. Lisa nearly fainted upon boarding, she used a lot of energy for her summon.

Meanwhile, a dark figure watched in the shadows.
