Enchanted Destiny
A/N: Hello to everyone who is reading this now. Some of you might know me by my Selvines. I decided to try and write a good story on my second favorite couple from Final Fantasy VIII, Squall and Rinoa. I've always liked this pairing together. This is my first Squinoa, so please, bear with me.

Chapter One "Waiting Patiently for Him"
It's been about seven days since he left with Irvine and Quistis on that mission. I can go a few days without him. Sometimes, I wonder why I'm so drawn to him. Then, there are other times I wonder what I would do without him. It's all too confusing, but I won't complain. This is my destiny.
I've always believed that things happen for a reason. My whole life must have been like that for a reason. That reason was to meet Squall and the whole gang. I am happy now. Life without him would be meaningless or so I would say. I wish Headmaster Cid didn't choose Squall for the mission. I can't argue with the man's decision though. It's almost midnight. I can't believe I'm still up. Selphie and I have decided to do something spectacular for the Festival this year. She wants to throw another concert. I want to be in it this time. We both have a thing for singing. Maybe we can do a duet or something.
That's a good idea. I should pat myself on the back for that one. I have to remember to tell her that tomorrow when we meet in the cafeteria for breakfast.
I'm trying to remember what all happened today that I wanted to tell you, Diary. I remember Zell didn't get any hot-dogs again. I feel sorry for him. He never makes it in time. I think tomorrow I will get him some before they run out of stock.
That reminds me! Selphie has a present for Irvine when he comes back. I don't want to ruin the surprise, but I'll give you a hint. It's something to do with western stuff. She spoils him rotten.
I'm getting tired now. I think I'll get some rest. Good-night, Diary.
Rinoa shut her diary and placed the top back on the pen. Ever since she was fourteen, she had been keeping a record of her past. This was her second diary she had filled up. She enjoyed writing though. She loved to write and sing. Sometimes, she would even to a combination of both and create lyrics to her own songs. Only Selphie had read some of her songs. Of course, she couldn't show them to Squall. They were mostly about him.
What can you expect from a hopeless romantic like herself?
Rinoa stood up from her rolling-chair by her desk and turned her lamp off. She walked over to her bed. She had baby blue sheets with little angel wings decorating them with a matching comforter and pillows. It was mid-spring. Sometimes the weather was hot, sometimes cold. It was unpredictable. She usually left her ceiling fan on at night, but tonight it was hot.
It wasn't unusual for it to be like that though. She just hated it.
Rinoa sat down on the bed and kicked her pink bunny slippers off her feet and sighed with comfort. She laid her head down upon the fluffy pillows and waited until her head sunk into its softness.
Her mind wandered off as she closed her eyes. She could see someone waiting for her among the flowers. There was no doubt that it was Squall. He was waiting for her like he had promised one year ago.
Yes, it has been one year since they defeated Ultimecia. Everything was fine now. The Garden was afraid they would have to shut down since its soul purpose was to defeat the sorceress, but it seemed as if everyone still needed SeeDs for protection against monsters.
Squall was the commander now. He was second in charge of the Garden. He gave Quistis her instructor position back. She accepted with gratitude. Everyone else was the same. Selphie and Irvine became and item not long after the threat of Time Compression was diminished. Unfortunately, Zell and the library girl never became a couple. Things didn't seem to work out with each other.
Rinoa turned in her sleep. Lately, she hadn't gotten a lot of sleep due to the fact that Squall hasn't been around. She wanted to prove to everyone that she can tolerate a few weeks or more without him. Only her close friends could see through her. She couldn't take a week much less a month. Rinoa knew he wasn't going to be gone that long, but sure as hell seemed like it.
"Damn," she mumbled in her sleep.
She could only hope that things would turn out good for Squall and the others. She hated being left out of missions and just about anything else. Once again, she had no place to complain. It wasn't her job to appoint SeeDs on which missions that go on.
She just closed her eyes tightly and tried to get her mind off of everything. "Just sleep. Just sleep." She chanted quietly to herself.
---
Rinoa was awakened by a loud knock on her dorm door. Rinoa flipped to her other side and covered her face with her pillow. "Mmmhhhh...Go away....mmmhhhh." She groaned.
The door knob turned and the loud, obnoxious creak the door always gave when it opened was heard. It ranged in Rinoa's ears making her grit her teeth.
"Is that anyway to answer a door?" The person responded with a giggle.
Rinoa mentally rolled her eyes. Who else would come into her dorm and try to wake her up? Your guess is anyone's guess.
She could hear the footsteps walking near the foot of her bed and stop. "I don't believe you, Rinny. You sleep all day and stay up all night. I think it should be the other way around." She could see a small figure walked over to the window and opened the curtains. The light shunned down on Rinoa's face making her squint even with her eyes closed. "It's spring! You should be up and in the sun."
Rinoa opened her eyes and threw her pillow at her best friend. "Only you would prance in my room and give me a lecture on skipping among the flowers of spring, Selphie." Rinoa sat up and rubbed her eyes. "It doesn't seem like a bad idea though." She finished with a laugh.
Selphie boasted, "Only I can come up with fun ideas to do!" Selphie turned back to the window and peered out. "Irvine used to come up with fun ideas to do." She trailed off.
Rinoa stood up and flipped her comforter over her sheets; only making it seemed like she made her bed. "Selphie, it's been only eight days. He'll be back in like another week, right?"
Selphie sighed and turned back to the sorceress. "Hopefully sooner."
"You never know, Selph. Good things happen to those who wait. If we wait just a little longer, I'm sure they'll be back in no time." Rinoa said cheerfully. She was trying to lift Selphie's and her spirit. "We don't have anything to do today. Why don't we go to Balamb today just for the hell of it?" She suggested.
"Yeah, we can take Zell with us too. We can go visit his ma while we are there. You know how she makes those delicious cookies. I want her recipe!" Selphie jumped and did her trademark pose. "I think I can make some good cookies if I wanted to."
Rinoa covered her eyes with her fingers. "Please, don't remind me of cooking class. I don't think anyone will ever be the same after eating my cookies."
Selphie laughed and held her stomach. "Don't say that, Rinny. Only a few people got sick. I liked them."
Rinoa grinned. "You sure did like them, Selphie. Yeah, after you threw up and had a whole gallon of water." Rinoa shook her head. "I am never cooking for Squall. I would burn the kitchen down if I tried."
"Look, practice makes perfect. Just keep trying. I'm not a perfect cook myself, but I had a lot of practice to get where I am now." Selphie looked at her watch. "It's almost time for the cafeteria to open. We better get there early if we want the good stuff."
Rinoa walked into her bathroom. "I'll meet you there then. I need to get ready."
Selphie opened the door and walked outside. "Ok, see you there then." She shut the door behind her and strolled casually to the cafeteria.
Rinoa sighed and looked into the mirror. She was surprised how long her hair had grown since they saved the world. It was down to her elbows. She was never fond of long hair, but something made her keep it long. It was Squall. They were together in his office one night. He was finishing some papers before he went to bed. She had mentioned something about how hard it was to maintain her hair and how she wanted to cut it. Squall turned to her and simply said, "You look nice with long hair."
It was something she would have never expected with him. He was always so straight-forward and blunt. She rarely got a compliment from him. He wasn't the one you would turn to for flattery, but it was nice once and a while.
He was honest with her. She loved it when he would tell her what he was thinking. Since then, she had only trimmed her hair. She tried to keep it around the same length. She didn't want it to grow too long.
Rinoa grabbed her brush off the counter and slowly began to untangle her hair. She wanted her hair to look its best every day. After she brushed it so it was soft and fluffy, she started to get dressed. She pulled on a pair of blue jeans with square pockets in the front. She found her beloved shirt Squall had let her wear one day. He never asked for it back, so she immediately thought he had given it to her. It was just a plain white shirt with the Balamb logo on it. Something Squall would wear.
She stepped out of the bathroom and stumbled on her shoes. She liked to wear tennis shoes a lot because she was a very active girl that liked to walk. She put on her plain white socks then put her tennis shoes on over her socks.
Make-up was something Rinoa didn't like too much. A little make-up was nice once in a while, but she never likes to wear it unless it was a special occasion. Going to the cafeteria to eat wasn't one of those times.
Rinoa walked to her night-stand next to her bed. She grabbed the necklace that had the two rings chained to it and put it around her neck. Before she left the room, the picture of Squall and her caught her attention. "Oh no." She said know full well how she gets distracted every time she looks at it. She grabbed the picture frame and gazed at the two figures in the image. She was happy; he was happy. Just looking at the picture made Rinoa happy, and yet, it made her feel sorrow as well.
"I need to go meet Selphie." Rinoa put the picture frame back in its proper place and rushed out of her dorm.
---
Selphie tapped her foot in the line. "How many people were trying to beat crowd today?" She said in an exasperated voice. "Oh well, I have nothing better to do today." She looked towards the entrance and patiently waited for her mystical friend to come in. "She sure does take a long time to get ready."
As if on cue, Rinoa came prancing in the cafeteria with a hungry look on her face. "Selphie," she waved to her perky friend in line, "you saved me a spot in line." She pushed through the crowd of ravenous students and made it to Selphie. No student said a bad comment to Rinoa only because she was the Commander's Girlfriend. She knew of this and took advantage of it - helping her friends and herself at times.
Rinoa stood behind Selphie and poked her back. "Hey, you saved some nice spots for us to stand. We should have like, another five minutes before we get our food." Rinoa said with sarcasm dripping like water from a leaky faucet.
"Hey, you want to get us spots? I don't think you should complain. You better be grateful I even got here as soon as I did or we would be in the back." Selphie poked her tongue out of her little mouth.
"Ok-ok, I catch your drift." Rinoa crossed her arms and waited for the line to get smaller.
Soon, after a good five minute Selphie and Rinoa were finally able to get their breakfast. They sat down at the usual table that they always sat at, the one nearest the window. Both Selphie and Rinoa loved to stare out the window. Lately, that was all they could do. Selphie took big bites out of her pancakes and drowned it with butter syrup. "Hey, why are you just picking at your food? It's good." She said with her mouth half full.
Rinoa let out a small sigh. "I really miss Squall. I know I think I'm just being obsessive, but I can't do anything without it reminding me of him."
"I know how you feel." Selphie put her fork back down on her tray. "Everything I do reminds me of Irvine. I try not to think about it, because I know it'll distract me from my original purpose."
That triggered Rinoa's memory. "Hey, I forgot to tell you something. We should write a song and sing a duo on stage for the festival."
Selphie's eyes brightened. "That's a wonderful idea! Where did you think this?"
Rinoa shrugged, "I was just thinking last night. Anyway, I'll start on the song soon. You can count on me."
After Rinoa's comments and ideas were announced, the rest of their breakfast was full of laughs and silly memories being unmasked. They put their trays back up after they finished their meals and left the cafeteria. While they walked down the hallway, they were unaware of the three familiar people by the directory.
"And I slipped on this pile of water near the girls' bathroom and I fell on my butt. My skirt lifted up and my underwear was showing to everyone!" Selphie told Rinoa of her most embarrassing moment.
Rinoa laughed, "You poor thing. You have my pity now." Rinoa stopped laughing when she saw the three. "Oh my Hyne! Selphie look!" Rinoa grabbed Selphie's head and turned it towards the trio.
"It can't be..." She was too stunned to say more.
"Squall!" Rinoa shouted and ran towards the SeeD.
To be continued...
A/N: Yeah, I'm going to continue this soon, but right now, I have other stories to focus on. This is my first attempt at a Squinoa, so I hope you like it so far. It's going to get better, I hope. Please review.
