Prologue:

In time after Meteor:

A ship moves through the northern sea and passes through an eruption of water corrupted with the vivid green of the life stream. All men, except one, perish aboard the ship.

A man called Sierra Hissama has styled himself the new ruler over the east with plans to take the west, north and Wutai as well.

The slowly dying survivor of the fatal trip north stumbles onto a group of mercenaries and begs them to destroy the one who funded the fatal journey. With his last breath he pleas for them to assassinate, one Sierra Hissama.

A resistance group forms unaware of the fatal trip in the north and the slowly beginning epidemic that was taking the Planet by storm, all those with Materia were dying of a cruel wasting disease that struck those who both carried and or used Materia. Only select few seemed immune, along with the last two half-blooded Cetra left on the planet's surface.

The Group calls itself NEW AVALANCHE after the resistance group that had once saved the Planet from Meteor. A former member of that group, and those wishing to throw Sierra out of power makes up its core.

The mercenaries gather their strength and launch an attack on one of Sierra's bases in the west seeking to take both the base and the man himself out. Unfortunately they are expected and most of their number is massacred before they managed to pull out and escape to lick their wounds.
