Prologue

Nanaki looked over the rocky cliff at the vast world that he had explored with his dear friends. His tail swishing in and out he squinted his eyes to make sure he saw what he saw. He walked toward the fire that was a few feet down the mountain.

"What did you see Nanaki?" Cloud asked.

"A town only about 5 miles from here,"

"Which town is it?" Vincent asked

"I do not quite know it looks very unfamiliar,"

"We have been to every town in this world." Cloud said

"Not this one Cloud,"

"How would you know?"

"I have been to every town on the map and have not seen this one."

"I see so we may be seeing something new." Cloud said to himself.

"It seems so," Vincent said

"Well let's do it tomorrow shall we?" Cloud said

"Alright," Vincent and Nanaki said at once.

"I will set up the tent now," Cloud said readying the tent.

"We need more tents after this one, and a few potions," Vincent said studying the pack with the items.

"Good thing there is a town near." Nanaki said

Vincent nodded and walked into the tent that was set up. Nanaki followed Vincent into the tent as did Cloud.

"We leave at sun up so get some sleep." Cloud said

"Alright goodnight Cloud," Nanaki said.

"Goodnight," Cloud said

That night they rested peacefully fully unaware of what awaited their destiny.

"Cloud wake up," Nanaki whispered.

"What the heck do you want?"

"It's time to go now," Vincent said.

"Really," Cloud said

"Yeah," Nanaki said.

"Alright give me a minute to get ready," Cloud said rubbing his eyes.

"Alright we'll be outside,"

"Okay" Cloud said sitting up.

When he exited the tent it disappeared magically and only the ground was where it used to be.

They went down the rocky slope to the base of the mountain. When they got there they looked over at the horizon at the massive town.

"Well shall we walk or run there?" Cloud asked

"Run," Vincent said

"I agree," Nanaki said.

"Let's raise the stakes then" Cloud said smirking.

"What stakes?" Nanaki asked

"Yeah how bout we race and whoever loses pays for the Inn."

"Alright," said Nanaki.

"How about you Vincent," Cloud said

"I am not a gambling man but I suppose,"

"Good," Cloud said, "Ready, set, go,"

They each set off in a different directions. Nanaki went straight, Cloud went north east and Vincent went northwest. Cloud took cover in the trees running fast. Nanaki went through plains going fast as well. Vincent went through the same forest as cloud di but he took a better approach. He jumped from tree to tree to make it go faster. Nanaki saw the gate a few feet from him and he also saw Vincent coming up at a fast speed but Nanaki won by a few feet.

"Ha we beat Cloud." Nanaki said

"Yes it appears so," Vincent said looking at Cloud come from the depths of the forest.

"Hey Cloud looks like you lost," Nanaki said.

"Yeah, yeah I guess I'll pay then."

"Shall we enter the gates then?" Vincent asked

"Alright Vincent," Cloud said

They walked up to the metal gates where there stood a foot soldier of the old Shinra.

Cloud took out his blade in caution as he approached the man in the uniform.

"Who'd you be," asked the man behind the uniform.

"We are merely travelers wanting to get into your gates. Vincent said.

"I'm sorry to ask but why do you wear the uniform of Shinra?" Cloud asked

"These are the only uniforms that are made on the earth now you want in correct?"

"That would be nice." Nanaki said

"Well I'm afraid you cannot enter unless you pass a test."

"What sort of test?" Cloud asked.

"A test of your knowledge,"

"And if we fail?" Nanaki asked

"I will have to kill you,"

"Isn't that a little harsh?" Cloud said

"No it is not if you win against me you have passage in,"

"Then why do the quiz?" Cloud said.

"Because not all are stronger than me I'm undefeated," said the soldier smirking.

"Has anyone ever passed this test?" Nanaki asked

"One man has passed the test,"

"So you murdered the rest of them?" Cloud asked

"Yes they chose to take the test."

"Who passed the knowledge test?" Nanaki asked

"I cannot say that is confidential"

"I see," Nanaki said

"Okay let's take this test," Cloud said.

"Okay first question, what is this metal on the gates?"

"Iron," Cloud said calmly

"No it is steel,"

"Damn how are we to know that?" Cloud said

"Guess?" the soldier said.

"That is not very fair," Vincent said.

"Who cares, next question what is my name?"

"What kind of question is that?" Cloud asked

"Your name is Freddie," Vincent said

"No that is wrong it is Edward,"
"Thanks for wasting a question," Cloud said sarcastically.

"Last question,"
"There are only three questions?" Nanaki asked.

"Yeah,"

"Then why do the third when we already have missed two questions?" Cloud asked

"I just happen to like the third question,"

"Okay say it then," Cloud said

"Right, what is this town's name?"

"Okay that is impossible to answer if we have only just arrived." Nanaki said

"Guess,"

"Alright is it named Pluto?"

"Where'd you get that from Nanaki?" Cloud asked.

"I just made it up," Nanaki said

"Oh," Cloud said

"Well I'm afraid you got it wrong so I am afraid I will have to fight one of you." The soldier said

"Only one," Cloud said

"Yes,"

"Okay who wants to fight this guy?" Cloud asked

"I will do it," Vincent said

"Okay Vincent go ahead," Nanaki said

"I'll be done in a minute," Vincent stated

"You think it will be that easy?" the soldier said

"Yes it will be easy I can see you are a weakling,"

"Take that back!" the soldier said grabbing his sword.

"Shall we begin?" Vincent asked

"Take this!" The soldier said attacking Vincent with his sword. Vincent merely side-stepped, took out his pistol, and fired the soldier right in the head.

"Well shall we enter the gates now?" Vincent asked holstering his pistol.

"Okay let's enter this gate and see the town." Cloud said.

Vincent pushed the gate open wide. They then entered the gates to look upon a vast city with many people on the streets. They chose to go down the biggest road to look for an items shop.

"There is then weapon shop." Nanaki pointed out,

"We don't need weapons," Cloud said

Cloud glanced around the crowd and pulled a man out from the open.

"Could you help us find the items shop?" Cloud said.

"A man with long grey hair just asked me that it is only a few buildings from here on your left."

"Okay you may leave," Cloud said

"Thank you," said the man walking away.

"Well let's go." Cloud said walking away towards the item shop.

Vincent and Nanaki followed him to the item shop.

"What would you like sir?" said the shopkeeper.

"We would like 3 tents and 10 potions," Cloud said to the keeper.

"Is that all?" The keeper asked.

"Yes," Cloud said

"Okay that'd be 2000 gil,"

"Here you go," Cloud said handing him the money.

"Thank you sir hope to see you again," the keeper said

"Oh sir where may I find the Inn," Cloud asked

"Go down this street you were in and turn left the third street down,"

"Okay," Cloud said. He left with Nanaki and Vincent following him,

"We go to the hotel this early?" Vincent asked

"Of course we have a big day tomorrow; we leave immediately and go travel more."

"But why travel?" Nanaki asked.

"There is still evil on this world," Cloud said

"We have killed all harmful evil from every town on the planet," Nanaki said

"But we still have some evil on the planet," Cloud said.

"Yeah but why can't we take a little break tomorrow," Nanaki muttered

"We are Avalanche and we protect people." Cloud said

"You mean we were Avalanche I mean the Avalanche's plans were to defeat Shinra and anything to do with it and we have done that,"

"We will go!" Cloud yelled at the top of his lungs.

"Fine I'm sorry I mentioned it," Nanaki said

"It's alright," Cloud said calming down

"I suggest we go in." Vincent said "We are attracting a small crowd,"

"Yeah let's do that," Cloud said.

When they entered they noticed a piano in the corner a staircase to the room and a teller at the Front desk.

"What can I do for ye?" said the teller.

"I'd like a room for the night," Cloud said.

"That'd be 50 gil," the Teller said

"That is sure cheap, well here you go," Cloud said handing over a 50-piece gil coin.

"Here's your key I hope you enjoy you stay," Said the teller.

Cloud walked up the steps to the room and unlocked the door then took a step in. He glanced around the room as Vincent and Nanaki came in behind him.

"Alright I'm gonna call everyone and tell them where we are at." Cloud said.

"Okay," Nanaki said.

Cloud picked up the phone and the first person he called was Tifa,

"Hello?" Tifa said

"Hi Tifa," Cloud said

"Hi Cloud," Tifa yelled happily over the phone.

"I'm just calling to say hello and tell you that we are in a town right now."

"Which town,"

Cloud put his hands on the receiver and turned towards Nanaki "What's this place called?"

"Just say Pluto," Nanaki said

He took his hand away and said "It's Pluto," he said

"Never heard of that town," Tifa said

"Yeah neither had we until now,"

"Oh, so how are Nanaki and Vincent?" Tifa asked,

"There are fine right guys"

"Yeah we are fine," They both said in unison so it would be loud enough,

"Oh that is good," Tifa said

"So what have you been up to Tifa?" Cloud asked

"Oh the usual helping Barret around the bar and all,"

"How is he?"

"He's fine he just found a date,"

"Oh," Cloud said,

"Yeah he is real happy about it,"

"Well tell him I say hello I've got to go right now and call up Cid and Yuffie. I'll be in Midgar in a week."

"Okay Cloud bye,"

"Bye Tifa," Cloud said putting down the receiver,

He called up Yuffie next,

"Hi Yuffie just called to say we are fine and at a town so bye," Cloud said and then hung up.

"Why'd you not talk to her?"

"One thing she is annoying and probably complain about not being in the group and secondly that was her voice machine,"

"Oh that would explain it," Nanaki said.

"Yeah," Said Cloud dialing another number.

"Hello?" Said a familiar voice through the phone,

"Hi Cid,"

"Hi Cloud how the hell are ya?"

"I'm fine we are in town now so I chose the time of peace to call everyone,"

"That's good,"

"Yeah so how's the wife?"

"She keeps on fucking nagging me as usual hell I never have alone time,"

"That sounds great,"

"Only great to people who live a life of fucking boredom,"

"Well couldn't you just look for minor monsters to battle outside of town."

"Like that would help they are too easy there need to be challenging battles like the old days"

"Yeah I know It is getting to easy."

"Damn it woman I'm trying to talk" Cid yelled, "Look sorry Cloud I've got to go Sheena needs help on the work with Highwind two so bye."

"Bye Cid" Cloud said,

"Well that certainly took awhile," Nanaki said looking at the sun as it slowly disappeared over the horizon to be replaced by a full moon.

"See that is why we came here early." Cloud said as he glared out the window as well.

"This town is vastly populated." Vincent noticed

"Yeah I've noticed," Cloud said stepping away from the window and sitting on the foot of a bed he was going to sleep on.

"You're going to sleep Cloud?" Nanaki asked

"Yeah if you don't mind,"

"Of course we don't mind go ahead," Nanaki said

"Are you going to bed as well?" Cloud asked

"Yeah I suppose so," Nanaki said lying down on the floor.

"How `bout you Vincent,"

"Yeah I will to," Vincent said lying back on his bed closing his eyes.

In the next room, in it was pitch black except for two green eyes staring at the ceiling waiting for sleep to overcome him, thinking of what tomorrow will bring to the travelers. That night a weird magic came over the whole town and it disappeared from existence.
