“How are you holding up, Vincent?”, Yoko asks, momentarily taking her eyes off the road to glance over at him as she drove.

Vincent sat in the passenger-side seat resting his head against the back of the seat with his headband pulled over his eyes, his headache had returned, “My head is killing me…”, he groans, “And it isn't from a hangover…”

“I've noticed. With the four of them bickering back there, I'm not surprised you got a headache…”, she comments.

“If you can hear them, why don't you have a headache…?”

“I've learned how to tune them out…but not always…”, she replies, “Hey! Keep it down you four! You're starting to give me a headache!”, she shouts through the window to the back.

“Well, how much longer till we get to Junon?”, Zack questions, being the main complainer in the back.

“We're almost to the Mythril-Mine if that helps…”, Yoko answers.

“Don't we have to walk from there on?”, Jessie asks, “Not that I'm complaining or anything, just making sure…”

“Yes, we'll have to walk through the mine and continue walking all the way to Junon, where we'll meet up with some of the WRO soldiers and travel to Costa Del Sol by boat…”, Pixie replies.

“In the mean-time, why don't you sing Yoko to pass the time for all of us…”, Nicole says.

“Anything in particular you want to hear?”

“No. Why don't you choose”, the blonde-haired and blue-eyed teen states with a grin plastered to her face.

“Hmm… Let me see…”, Yoko mutters, trying to think of a song to sing, “I got it!”

“So sing it”, Jessie insists.

“Okay…”

(A/N: I don't own the song `My Immortal' by. Evanescence!)

I'm so tried of being here…
Suppressed by all my childish-fears…
And if you have to leave…
I wish that you would just leave…
Because your presence still lingers here…
And it won't leave me alone…

These wounds won't seem to heal…
This pain is just too real…
There's just too much that time cannot erase…

When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears…
When you scream I'd fight away all of your fears…
And I've held your hand through all of these years…
But you still have…
All of me…

You used to captivate me, by your resonating light…
Now I'm bound by the life you left behind…
Your face it haunts, my once pleasant dreams…
Your voice it chased away, all the sanity in me…

These wounds won't seem to heal…
This pain is just too real…
There's just too much that time cannot erase…

When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears…
When you scream I'd fight away all of your fears…
And I've held your hand through all of these years…
But you still have…
All of me…

I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone…
But though you're still with me…
I've been alone all along…

When you cried…
I'd wipe away all of your tears…
When you scream…
I'd fight away all of your fears…
And I've held your hand through all of these years…
But you still have…
All of me…, she sang, as she continued to drive.

Vincent stares at the young woman in disbelief, as the others in the back applauds.

“That was great!”, Nicole exclaims.

“Sad, but excellent!”, Jessie states.

“You should sing professionally! Oh wait, you already do!”, Zack corrects himself.

`Why did she sing a song of that nature just as I'm thinking of Lucrecia?', Vincent wonders, watching as the three teens in the back pester Yoko to sing another song, `It's probably just a coincidence…'

“Alright, I'll sing another song!”, Yoko shouts, giving into they pestering.

(A/N: I don't own the song `Time after Time' by. Kuraki Mai. I'll have the translation in the closing Author's Note!)

“Finally!”, Pixie sighs, flying up into the air.

“Let's get going!”, Zack shouts, bolting out the back of the truck and running towards the cave.

“Wait!”, Vincent orders, stopping Zack in his tracks.

“What is it?”, Jessie asks.

“Night will fall soon, we should camp here and travel through the mine in the morning…”, Vincent explains.

“That sounds like a good idea, we don't know what is in there under the cover of darkness”, Yoko agrees, being the only other responsible adult besides Vincent.

“What if the Midgar Zolom attacks us while we're sleeping out in the open?” Nicole questions, having heard the horror-stories.

“We'll just have to set up a night-watch schedule”, Jessie suggests.

“I'll take first watch…”, Vincent simply says.

“I'll take second watch”, Jessie states, “Zack, you take third watch. And Yoko, you take the fourth watch”

“I'll set up the tents!”, Nicole volunteers.

-------------------

-Hours Later-

Vincent sits atop a boulder just a few feet away from his sleeping comrades, occasionally glancing back at the tents, even from this distance he could still hear Zack's snoring, but it wasn't loud enough to drown out the sounds of the chirping crickets and the other sounds of the tranquil night. Exactly the way he liked it; peace and quiet, and looking up at the star-lit sky without a large burning ball of flame blocking the view, maybe that's why he was doing this, to protect the life and beauty of nature.

`How ironic it is that me; an abomination to nature, can still enjoy the raw, untamed beauty of nature…?', he thought, as he continued to stare listlessly up at the stars `Regardless of what my flesh is now…My heart is still the same; the heart of a human…'

Snap!

He suddenly spins around, aiming his Cerberus in the direction of the breaking twig.

“Hey, relax! It's only me”, Yoko says, walking towards him from the camp-site with her hands raised in a defensive matter.

“Yoko…?”, he sighs in relief, re-holstering his gun.

“I had a feeling you were just going to not wake Jessie or Zack up for their shifts, and stay up all night…”, she adds, sitting down onto the rock beside him, “Good thing I woke myself up or you would have taken over my shift too…”

Vincent could only glance over at the newest member to they're party as she stared up at the same stars he had been staring at moments ago, but the stars seemed to be reflected in her reddish-brown orbs, charging them with energy.

“Oh, the night sky is so beautiful. You can never see this many stars in the cities…”, she sighs in happiness, as she continued to stare skyward, “The first time I had seen the sky like this was after Meteor was destroyed and Saiyuki found me…”, she mutters, hugging her knees to her chest.

“You miss her, don't you?”, he asks.

“Yeah…”

“What about your real mother?”

“I don't know how she died, but she was extremely kind and beautiful… from what I was told…”

“From what you were told…?”

“I never really had a chance to know her…Before she died…”, she sadly replies, letting her eyes drift down from the sky, “And the only thing I know about my father is that he loved nature so much, that if he found a place with a nice warm breeze he could end up falling asleep without meaning to, maybe even catch a cold…”

“He sounds like a pretty peaceful guy…”

“He was a compassionate and humane individual, and a little reserved, but he loved my mother a lot”, she states, looking back up at the stars.

“If he loved her, why did he leave her and you?”

“They had a stupid fight, which ended their relationship…”, she says, closing her eyes, a single tear streams down her cheek, “And as I told you last night, he doesn't know I exist…”

“Oh yeah…”, he mutters, recalling she had told him during the haze from the alcohol.

“I'm sorry that I have to do this…”, Yoko states.

“Do what…?”, he asks, just before his vision began to blur and he falls forward, leaning against the boulder with his eyes closed and lightly snoring.

“Sorry that I had to use a Seal Materia to make you sleep…”, she replies, still holding the orb of green materia as it slowly stopped glowing, “Sweet Dreams…”, she whispers, as she covers him with a blanket.

-------------------

-Vincent's Dream-

Vincent and Lucrecia are standing in her lab.

“Dance with me Vincent”, she requests.

Vincent simply shakes his head, “W-What? No... no I can't dance”, he panicky says.

“You won't dance with me, because you don't like me, isn't it?”, she pouts, acting hurt.

“That's not… I'll dance with you…”, he replies, unable to really say no to her.

They start dancing; nothing too fancy, just a simple two-step.

“Sometimes... I get so involved with my research that I lose myself. Whenever that happens though, ... you always come to my rescue... thank you Vincent.”, Lucrecia suddenly says, quietly.

“What?”, he asks.

“Nothing... I just wanted to thank you.”, she replies, smiling as she rests her head on his shoulder.

-End Dream-

-Next Morning-

“Lucrecia…”, Vincent mutters in his sleep, while everyone of his traveling companions stood around him looking down at him.

“Oh, he looks so cute! Asleep like that!”, Nicole coos.

“He lied, and didn't wake me up for mine or Zack's shifts…”, Jessie spat.

“He only woke Yoko up…”, Zack pouts.

“Actually, I woke myself up”, Yoko states, coming to Vincent's defense on this, “I had to use a Seal Materia to make sure he got some rest…”

“Whoa, you have your own stash of Materia?”, Nicole gasps.

“What do you have?”, Jessie questions.

“My Spell/Magic Materias consist of: one Fire Materia leveled up to the Fire 2 spell, one Master Restore Materia, one Master Revive Materia, one Master Heal Materia, the Mastered Seal Materia I mentioned before, and my Mastered Barrier, Destruct, Mystify, and Time Materias…”, she says, counting them off on her fingers, “As for my Independent Materias: one Underwater Materia, one Long Range Materia, and a Chocobo Lure Materia…”

“A Chocobo Lure!”, Nicole exclaims, “If we catch a few Chocobos after we get out of the Mines, we can ride them all the way to Junon!”

“That sounds like a plan…”, Zack comments.

“Umm, we still need to wake Vincent up”, Pixie says.

“Oh, right…”, Yoko gasps, “Vincent, it's time to wake up”, she gently calls, nudging him in a tender-spot on the side of his ribs, causing him to wince in pain.

“Huh…? What…?”, he mutters, as he slowly blinks his crimson eyes open.

“It's time to wake up, we're heading into the caves, remember?”, she says, smiling innocently.

“You…”, he growls, glaring at Yoko, “You forced me to sleep, didn't you?”

“So what if I did, you needed to rest anyway”, she shrugs, “Besides, I apologized before I did it…”

“Come on, get your butts in gear!”, Jessie shouts.

“I'm coming, I'm coming…”, he grumbles, draping his cloak around his shoulders and lifts his small bundle of things from where he had placed it, following Yoko and his companions into the mine.

DemonGirl-Setsuna: Well? What did you think? Please review!

Well, here is the translation to `Time after Time':

If I had been able to meet you
I wouldn't have let go of you ever again
The hanamidou
Tells of the end of spring
One petal from this misty flower...

And an old song floats back
Gently, even now, into my heart

Time after time
The miracle of meeting you
In a city where the wind whispered through
We walked a path through the hills hand in hand
And made an unforgettable promise

I can hear your voice in the wind
The thin ice freezes back over
Long ago memories
Not knowing to be afraid of hurt, I swore
That someday, we'd meet again

Here, in a season of pale crimson
With smiles on our faces

Time after time
Alone in the city of whirling blossoms
Can't return to when things were fine
In this very same place, just like on that day
With my face strewn with tears, I waited for you

Those petals fly in the whirling wind
As if stroking the water's surface
In my anguish, I treasure each and every one...

Everyone says that they're lonely
That they have to keep searching
For someone
But all they end up chasing after
Are the fleeting and fragile

Time after time
If I could have met you in the city of changing hues
I wouldn't need any more promises
More than anyone else
You are so easy to hurt
I want to be with you--this time, forever.

After Yoko's little stunt, will Vincent be able to trust her?
