Chapter 6 - Trouble comes in twos
Quistis had arrived at Trabia Garden one week ago.
She had to admit, they'd done an amazing job on fixing it up. It was almost back to normal
there. Quistis was the only applicant there in over 4 months, so she was signed up
immediately. Next week was one year since rebuilding started, and there was a huge celebration
planned.
Along with helping out on the overall appearance of the place, she tought
the junior classmen on how to use the power of the GF's and how to utilise their power
properly. Today was the twice yearly training exercise held to examine the junior classmen and
give them grades. Normal lessons were cancelled, and the students travelled in groups of
two, with an Instructor supervising them, in a mission not dissimilar to the Fire Cavern
test that Balamb Garden offered.
The 'dark cave' as it was known, contained an estimated 70
GF's. Each group was assigned to find a certain one, and Quitis had a group with students
Alex Lydon and Dimitri Mc'Callum.
'So what GF am I going to get today?' said Alex, excited at the whole prospect.
'We're looking for GF Pandora, didn't you read your brief on this mission?' Quistis said,
worried that Alex was not prepared.
'Of course I did, i just forgot is all. She's in the west part of the cave as I remember'
'Thats right' said Dimitri 'Come on, let's get going!'
The trio went through the arches outside the cave, and were enveloped by darkness.
Dimitri pulled out a Flare Stone from his backpack, and used it to light the way.
All of a suddent, a pair of Grats snuck up behind them, and Alex and Dimitri drew their
weapons and got ready for battle.
Alex was a Gunblade specialist, though his was rather small, due to his small stature.
Dimitri on the other hand preferred Twin Sai weapons, that always reminded him of
oversized forks, as they we're quite effective against monsters.
Alex ran straight at the Grat to the left, stuck his Blade in the Grat's stomach, and
pulled the trigger. The Grat slumped to the floor.
Next up was Dimitri, but instead of using his weapon, the the Flare stone at the remaining
Grat, incinerating it with an awesome flash of heat. This was a bad move, as they now had
very little light to see with.
'Way to go, numbnuts!' Said Alex, obviously annoyed they had no advantage over the others now.
'Aaah hush up' replied Dimitri. 'Lets just keep moving'
After around 15 minutes of searching, they heard a voice behind them.
'Is it me you are seeking? If so, show me what you've got' Said a mysterious female voice.
They turned around to discover a woman sat on a box, with large silver wings on her back
and long sparkling hair. They'd finally found Pandora.
'Get ready, this will be hard' Quistis shouted at the boys.
Alex ran in straight away and swung his Gunblade at the GF, but forgot to take a shot.
Dimitri then ran in and attacked the GF. Pandora got off of her box, and opened it up.
Pandora was a status-effect based GF, who unleashed random status-effects when her box
opened. 3 were unleashed on each of the boys every turn.
Their attacks didn't really seem to be working, and the boys were running out of recovery items.
Quistis thought to herself 'I might have to intervene here' when all of a sudden, another group
stumbled across the battle.
Quistis knew the pair, Ryan Blake and Max Wyatt, troublesome
in class, but she wondered what they were doing here? They were the strongest of the junior
classmen, and were assigned to north of the cave for a reason.
Before she could stop them, the pair started battling Pandora, and easily impressed her.
Ryan and Max were both Gunblade users, and could handle larger models than what Alex carried.
Pandora decided that they were more worthy than Alex and Dimitri, and so joined them.
Quistis was outraged. She knew this was against the rules, and called the event off,
with everyone coming outside.
'That was a blatant act of misconduct! What do you have to say for yourselves?'
'We thought it was Alexander, instructor' Max replied.
'Yeah, we didnt know those losers were after it.' said Ryan.
'Well, you're both suspended. For two weeks. Effective immediately' Quistis said.
'But...'
'No but's. I want you to report to the Headmasters office, and i'll let him decide what
else should be done about this matter. Dismissed'
The pair walked off angry at Quistis, they'd gotten caught by her, and now they'd miss out
on next weeks festivities for sure.
