Chapter 8 - Pinnacle
'Come on Squall! We've only got ten minutes! Stop messin' with your hair!' an over-excited
Zell said. It was the day of the wedding in Deling City. Zell had been made best man,
after the two started hanging out a lot more when Zell moved two blocks away from
Squall and Rinoa in the residential district of Deling.
'Chill out Zell, I'm supposed to be anxious, i'm getting married.
You're worse than I am' Squall said, with a sigh. They'd only waited two weeks after moving
to set the date, another two weeks away. And now that it was here, Squall didn't know
whether to be excited, or nervous. 'Probably both' he thought to himself.
Squall was wearing his old SeeD uniform. He had planned it as a surprise, as he was wearing
it the first night he and Rinoa met. It's only ever been worn that night. He never really
liked it, but he guessed Rinoa must've as she danced with him, after all.
Riding in Squall's limo was Zell, Irvine and Seifer. He hoped that Quistis had come from
Trabia, and was with Rinoa. It wouldn't feel the same without her. It was going to be a
grand ceremony, they used the money Squall had saved from his days at SeeD. After all,
it wasnt long, back then, before he was earning over 24000 gil a week.
'It's here guys! Hurry up!' shouted Seifer as he ran through the door. He'd been waiting
outside smoking a cigarette. 'You ready Squall?'
'Ready as I'll ever be' he replied.
Squall entered the hall, and greeted everyone there. Ellone, Laguna, Kiros, Ward, Edea, Cid,
everyone was present so far. Even a few old faces in the shape of Xu and Nida from Balamb
Garden. He stepped back outside to join Zell and Seifer, who was smoking again.
The pair hadnt been fighting as much recently. Squall had really seen a change in Seifer
of late. He thought it was about time he came back to reality.
Irvine walked around the corner. 'She's late' he said.
'Really?' said Squall. 'I hadnt noticed with all the people i've had to talk to'
'Two minutes, and thirty seven seconds' Irvine said, tapping his foot. 'it's probably
Selphie's fault, as usual, heh'
'Whats that over there then?' asked Seifer as a white stretch limo pulled up to the main
gates. 'Not very observant for a sniper, are we?'
'Whatever, Seifer' replied Irvine, with a smile on his face. 'It's time people! Battle
stations!'
Squall waited by the alter, with Zell standing next to him, and everyone else sat on the
1st row of benches.
'Where is she?'Squall asked, nervously. 'She's been here 20 minutes. She got cold feet or
something?'
'Don't worry about it so much!' said Zell, 'She'll be out in a minute. Probably powdering
her nose, or something, yanno how girls are.'
The organs started to play, and she emerged from a hidden room at the back of the hall.
She looked absolutely stunning, in a long, silky white dress...
'Wait a minute' Squall thought, 'isn't that the dress she wore on Graduation night?
Seems she had the same idea as me...'
She smiled at him, as she slowly walked up the aisle, linking arms with Cid.
Halfway up the aisle, the main double doors of the hall flung open with a smash as they
came off their hinges.
'GALBADIAN SOLDIERS!' Irvine shouted. 'GET READY!'
In amongst the soldiers was a woman with long, bleached white hair, with flowing pink
streaks, wearing a jacket very similar to Seifer's white trenchcoat.
'General Ishimura?' Squall pondered as he grabbed his gunblade from his bag.
'SIEZE THE WOMAN' Shouted the tall, shapely woman. 'KILL THE REST.'
Three soldiers immediately ran towards Rinoa, but Irvine had been smart enough to run up
to the balconies and shot them three times each before they could get anywhere near.
All of a sudden, a group of 20 more soldiers absailed from the balconies around Irvine,
descending on the guests, shooting aimlessly as everyone dropped to the floor.
Ten of the soldiers surrounded Rinoa and Cid, while another grabbed Cid in the stomach,
and let rip with a machine gun.
'No you b!@£$*ds!' shouted Rinoa as she watched Cid drop the the floor next to her.
Squall immediately ran towards the group in a raging fury, slashing his gunblade wherever
he could. Quistis, Seifer and Selphie joined in the ruckus, as another 20 Galbadian soldiers
ran through the main doors.
The soldiers picked rinoa up by the ankles and threw her out of the crowd, into the arms
of the soldiers behind them, and the mysterious tall woman.
'DON'T YOU DARE! NOT THIS TIME!' shouted Squall as he furiously hacked his way through
countless soldiers, trying to get to Rinoa.
There were too many. The tall woman and several soldiers carried Rinoa, kicking and
screaming in her silky dress, through the main doors and outside.
Squall and the others caught up just in time to see the soldiers driving off in
armoured veichles.
Squall slumped to the floor. He couldn't believe it had turned out this way, that he'd
been robbed of Rinoa again, on his wedding day.
He thought of how Rinoa had said to him that they should marry just in case. He now really
understood why.
