Chapter 7.

"One...." Edgeler said pulling the trigger, Squall scrunched his face waiting for the impact but- nothing happened. The killer started laughing when Squall opened his eyes. "How's that for luck? Huh?" He laughed a second more then bashed Squall surprisingly on the head knocking him to the floor.

He bent down to pick him up but Squall sat up snapping the lighter from the gas station to life. Edgeler looked confused a second as if he had no clue what this thing was then he broke into a grin that turned into a laugh as he snatched it away from Squall's hand. "Now this is new." He was saying crouching down in front of him. "Now I've been threatened... nearly run over, stabbed, shot at, but thiiis, this is new. A new one." He snapped the flame to life and held it close to Squalls eyes.

"How would you like me to singe off those pretty little lashes of yours? Hmm?" He asked him and held it a little closer so that the fires light danced against Squall's gun metal eyes, then he let the striker go and the flame went out. "But no, I have better plans for you." He said standing up but then falling back downward again bashing him in the head with the hilt of the gun, so hard that Squall blacked out on the floor.

Back in Dollet Irvine is going into the police station. He hears a man talking on the phone which soon turns into yelling and he listens a moment while standing at the front desk. "I need to know if that case on Chyna Shepard was ever solved?!" The man shouted into the receiver, when he was silent Irvine assumed he was listening to whom ever it were he was yelling at.

The sharpshooter tapped a bell making it ring but no one responded to it's sound. 'What is he the only man on duty today or are they all still at the Shepard's home?' He thought hearing the man again.

"Never mind, I'll go myself." And with that the phone slammed down on to it's base and the man stomped out of the room looking rather pissed off.

"...-'xcuse me?" Irvine started but the man pushed right past him.

"Out of my way," he said and mumbled something on his way out. "What kind of name is Squall anyway?"

"The nerve of some people." Irvine was saying to himself, then he cleared up what the man just said when he went by. "Did he just say Squall?!" He ran out the door and looked for the cop that had just went by but he was no where in sight. "Fuck!" He swore and saw a car going by and from the side view mirror he noticed the officer.

"Hey wait!" He called but the man didn't seem to hear- or didn't wanna hear and Irvine ran to the parking lot hopping into Seifers car and he started it up driving away.

......................

The small group arrived in Esthar and were taken to the presidential palace, in a special limo sent for them. "You know the best part about limo rides?" Seifer was saying as Zell reached across his lap making him raise his arms up.

"The free food?" Zell answered truthfully reseating himself with a handful of free shrimp.

"No, the free drinks." He said downing a glass of expensive wine.

Quistis shook her head with a sigh and Seifer frowned at the fact that she was watching him and asked. "What is your problem now, instructor? Am I drinking it wrong you want me to hold up my pinky?" He mocked and she sighed heavily at his mockery and looked

out the window replying.

"How can you just sit there, don't you have a heart?" She asked and he thought a moment and answered casually. "No." He poured himself another glass and continued drinking only something was off about his face and Zell knew it.

"Seifer," He was whispering as the limo pulled to a stop outside of the presidential palace. "what's wrong? Are you worried about Squall too?" Seifer looked at Zell and just yawned rolling his eyes and the martial artist slapped the ex-knight on his upper arm. "Don't give me that shit, I know you too well."

"Leonhart's a big boy, he can take care of himself." Seifer took Zell's hand and pulled him from the car with him. "Come on Dinky, wouldn't wanna keep the president waiting." Zell let out a sigh and shook his head.

'I know this is a cover up, he's just as worried as everybody else....but, then again Squall is more than capable of taking care of himself.' He paused his mental train a second as everyone walked by him into the huge front doors of the palace and then he looked at Laguna. 'What's Laguna gonna think after he's come so far with Squall and everything.'

"Hey Zell." The president said cheerfully with a raised hand as a wave. The martial artist waved back with a smile then thought. 'I can't tell him, it'll ruin the day and work him up to a frenzy like Irvine... I just hope he can find him and bring him back before I run out of ways to cover for them.'

When the group was inside Laguna's smile shrank a bit while they were walking up the hall. He just noticed that Squall and Irvine weren't there and he wondered why. "Selphie?" He said taking her elbow and pulled her back to his pace lightly. "Where's Squall?" He asked her and Zell gulped hard looking over his shoulder trying to seem as though he weren't paying much attention and it was just a casual look. 'Please don't let her blow it.' He thought and the energetic girl grinned and replied.

"Don't worry sir Laguna, Squall and Irvine woke up a little late and they have to get dressed and you know how boys are when they see skin," she laughed slapping his arm when he laughed too. "They'll be by a bit later." She glanced at Zell as though she were giving him a reassuring face and Laguna did seem to by that so the worry washed off his face for the time being- at least until it were brought up again.

"Well lets go watch some TV until dinner, huh guys?" Laguna was saying.

"Foot ball!" Selphie shouted and ran up the hall chanting. "Foot ball! Foot ball!"

Quistis sighed and said. "Sports of course, I'm trapped in a house full of guys- and Selphie." She called up the hall to the energetic girl leading the group of sport ridden men. "Couldn't we watch something on lifetime, I hear they're showing a marathon?"

"Sorry Quisty," Laguna was saying and her mouth dropped. "You've been overruled." They disappeared into the living room and she paused in her pace shaking her head.

"Why didn't I go with Xu." She let out a pissed off huff and continued into the room.
