Chapter 12.

Outside, much later that evening. Irvine was on his way down the street when it started raining. He stuck a hand out the window and felt it wondering why the weather man had said nothing about rain until he saw the sign that said you are here. 'Shit, I'm back in the Dollet area.' He rolled the car over to a gas station on the side of the road. "Maybe someone can give me directions, they're probably familiar with living in this area."

The cowboy parked and climbed out of the car then walked over to the big push/pull glass doors and tugged at one. "Locked?" He thought to himself and then remembered the holiday and sighed, but something seemed wrong about this picture. He walked to the side of the building and saw the phone ripped out of the wall and frowned, he then noticed the door a little past the phone was broken open. "What the hells?" The cowboy walked into the door calling inside with him. "Hellooo?" As he made his way into the shopping part of the gas station he saw a young man lying dead over a desk and another man behind the counter tucked away in the corner also dead.

Irvine gasped and ran over to the two men and checked their pulses although their status was clear. The two of them were obviously shot and by a very strong gun. The cowboy took out his cel phone and it flashed that it didn't have much power left in it, but he had to call the police. The more cops searching this area the easier it'll be to find Squall and the person who took him.

"Hello officer? This is Irvine Kinneas of the Balamb Garden SeeDs and I'd like to report a shooting at a gas station almost outside of Dollet, two men are dead and the killer must have gotten away." He listened to the person on the other end then replied. "I'm sorry officer but I can't wait around for you, I'm kind of looking for someone and if I stop now it may be too late. Irvine out." He turned his phone off hanging up on the person and he ran out of the store back to Seifer's car.

'Considering how dry that blood was, they were killed yesterday so the killer must live back up the way I just fucking came.' Irvine thought as he drove up the road.

In Edgeler's basement Squall's eyes are twitching. 'Ooww.' He groaned as his eyes blinked open, trying to sit up he fell back down and held his head in pain. 'Ahhh.' He groaned in mental pain. 'I can't lay here all day, I have to get out of here.' The gunblader coached himself to move into a sitting position, but it hurt. 'Suck it up Squall.' He thought and sat himself up. He began to slowly push the broken pieces of chair away from him feeling a sharp twinge of pain on his forehead. Squall put his hand up to touch it but was distracted when he saw a round clock sitting in the middle of the wall. "5:30? I've been out for hours!"

The gunblader yanked the back piece of the chair from around his back and tossed it beside him standing up he ran over to a large but skinny metal filing cabinet and opened it up taking a look inside for anything that could help him get the cuffs off.

"This guy has to have some tools somewhere." He thought out loud. Squall looked down into a stack of crates that had files in them, curiosity struck him as he reached in for the first file he could see. There was a picture of Thomas Shepard on it he was circled in and behind the photo was a picture of his sister. "Laura..." He said, remembering a moment how he got here in the first place.

Dropping the pictures back onto the stack he turned his head to check the side doors and saw his reflection in a mirror. The scar on his forehead was reopened and bleeding down his face but it had been a while since he was hurt so the blood was thick and drying up. The gunblader ran a subconscious arm across his forehead feeling the sharp twinge of pain again for a second but it faded away.

Squall then opened the other side of the door and checked for tools there. The first thing he noticed was a picture of Edgeler with his three black dogs, under the bottom read, my angels. 'Demons is more like it.' He thought and took mental note that Edgeler had on a red protection suit that was hanging on the wall of the door almost beside the picture. 'That must be what he wore to train them to be killers.' Squall thought looking around a little further into the cabinet and then he saw what he's been waiting for.

"Yeah."

He pulled an electric hand drill from the cabinet and sat down on the floor turning it on and drilling it into the lock of his ankle cuffs. "Come on, come on." He pushed it further into the lock until it broke away, he then moved to the next one. It took little effort this time and it fell away. 'All I have to do is get my hands free and we're out of here.' He thought trying to hold the drill with one hand and press the button in but it was hard without two hands.

Squall tried even still to hold it in place but it was useless. 'Someone else is gonna have to hold this for me.' He thought and stood up going back over to the cabinet. 'There's no way Edgeler would have left the door unlocked down here.' He picked up a hammer and a screw driver going into the hole in the wall where the solid metal door held Chyna inside. The gunblader glanced in briefly and saw the girl still sitting on the chair staring into space.

He ran back into the basement grabbing a mini stool and he stood on it then began to bang the hinges out of the doorway. Squall placed the screwdriver underneath the long screw holding the buckles in place, then banged the hammer into the other end as hard as he could. The nail moved slightly sliding up higher the harder he banged the screwdriver into it.

When it fell free to the floor he jumped down off the stool knocking it out of the way then he went to work on the bottom one. Chyna looked at the door where all the noise was coming from and saw it fall forwards into the room, making a louder sound that would scare most people but she barely blinked an eye. Squall rushed in three seconds later and practically slammed into the girl taking her hands. "Chyna we're getting out of here, okay?"

She had no reaction but Squall didn't think she would have. "Come over here, please." He stood bringing her up out of the chair with him and he walked them over to the little dresser where the lamp sat for the room. Squall then placed the electric drill down on the top of it then he turned to Chyna. "Listen, we're getting out of here but I need you to do something for me."

The gunblader looked down at the drill gesturing with a nod saying. "I need you to pick this up and press this button right here, and hold it against the lock of my hand cuffs but your gonna have to press hard okay?" Chyna didn't move or say a thing, it was as if she hadn't heard him at all. "Chyna please? You have to do this for me..." Nothing. 'Maybe she doesn't know how to hold it?' He thought for a second then picked the drill up and placed it in her hands saying. "See like this." But she let it fall from her hands.

'God, he really must have done a number on you.' The gunblader thought sadly. "Chyna, are you listening?" Squall was desperate now, he had to find a way to get her to trust him even if it were just this once. "I know that you've been hurt, scared, and alone but you know what I've felt all those things too, from my friends and even from myself but I fought it all bravely and you have to face your demons too...." He said and she didn't seem to understand.

Squall sighed and then had an idea. "Chyna, you remember that day you stayed on the beach all night and there was that horrible storm?" Squall looked her in the eyes waiting for a response and he thought there might be a slight one. "Well I remember a time when I felt just like you right then, I was going through this whole thing in my life that would have torn me apart, it almost did I was completely alone... most people feel it but Chyna I actually lived it. There was nothing absolutely nothing the world had just stopped me from existing on it and I was alone, no one to help me, no one to count on. But I survived and I've been safe and happy and fine ever since and you can be the same way too. You're still here and you'll be fine because I'm here to protect you and we're going to get out."

The little girl looked up, raised her hands to the drill and picked it up; Squall smiled to himself glad that she was going to help him. "Good girl, press the orange button and aim it at the locks hole okay? It's a little loud but don't be scared." Chyna placed the drills point to the lock and pressed the button. "Good girl." Squall was saying so she'd know that she was doing a good job. When the cuffs finally fell away Chyna let the drill drop as though she were never holding it in the first place.

Squall held her shoulders and he walked them out of the basement into the living room of the house. He glanced at the time and saw that they didn't have much of it left, placing Chyna in a chair the gunblader walked into the kitchen and searched under the sink cabinet and found some cleaning solutions and ammonia. "Perfect." He said going back into the basement, grabbing the red training suit that Edgeler used with his dogs, the gunblader then came back upstairs grabbing the key for the RV, which he saw Edgeler put there when they first got in.

Squall came back into the living room, suited up, with a mixed concoction of cleaning solutions and ammonia. The key to the RV was sewn onto the pair of gloves he was wearing over his own so incase he did have trouble he wouldn't drop it and lose it. Glancing at the time he noted that it was, "5:45," He said to himself. "Time to kick this plan into action."
