Chapter 6: Intertwining Fates

I got the clearance only a few hours later from Volker. After sending a message to King Ranperre, telling him I would arrive in a few days. I set out to find Dal and told her when we would be leaving. As I was walking back, I noticed something odd… The shop that her father worked out of was closed. Normally his shop was always open at this time of day. All I could figure out was that something happened. Anyway, I went on home to wait.

After around 18:00, there was a knock on the door. Answering it, I found Dalshandra in her dark green miner's uniform, still covered in dust, her hair still in disarray.

“Hello, lover” She smiled as I let her come in. I could tell something was wrong the moment she came in. She didn't have the normal bounce in her step she'd always had.

“What's wrong?” I inquired, but she just smiled.

“Nothing's wrong. Mind if I use your washroom?” I knew something was up but I let it go for now. I motioned for her to go ahead. After about twenty minutes or so, she came back out, the tunic only about halfway laced.

“So everything went well with Volker then?”

“Yeah,” I replied, kind of distracted by the cleavage line she was showing. “It actually didn't take a long as I thought it would.”

“That's good to hear.” She responded as she came to sit down next to me, crossing her bare leg over her knee and leaning against my shoulder, resting her head on it.

“Dal, I can tell something is bugging you.” I wrapped an arm around behind her and rested my hand on her shoulder. “Please tell me. Was it last night?”

“Oh no, last night was incredible. It's just… something at home… See… while you were gone, father decided that he wasn't going to stay anymore. Stay with the family anymore. So the other night, while you and I were having our fun and mom was asleep, he just left. Mom has really been depressed recently. And today, she told me that I should find somewhere else to be.”

I looked at her in amazement. “You mean she kicked you out of the house?” She just nodded against my shoulder. “Damn… How could she even consider doing that?” Dal spoke pretty much into my shoulder.

“I don't know, but somehow she did…”

I pulled her closer to me to help comfort her. “You don't have to worry. You can always stay here with me.” That seemed to calm her down quite a bit. `Maybe now would be the best time' I thought to myself. “Sorry to have to get up, but I'll be right back.” Dal looked at me with a hint of sadness in her eyes of having to break our moment, but she let me up. I went up to my room and into the drawers that were underneath my bed. After a bit of searching, I found the small box that I was looking for. Opening it very carefully, the ring that it held was still there. It was a gold band, set with several diamonds along the front of the band, broken only in the middle by a strip of gold that had his and her initials carved into it. Closing the box, I walked back down stairs and saw her still sitting on the couch. She had actually moved to where her back was against the armrest and her legs were up on the couch, only her right leg was dangling over the side.

“Sorry that took so long.” I approached the couch and she sat up, a little confused by my sudden vanishing and reappearance.

“Everything alright?” She asked, her tone returning more to normal.

“Well,” I started, kneeling before the front of the couch, hand going into my pocket. “That really depends on one thing.”

Her confusion grew even more. “What's that?”

“A simple little question” I smiled. I still didn't believe I was about to actually try this. `Well, I've already started, might as well finish'. I thought.

She caught my smile. “And what question would that be?”

Carefully, I removed the ring box from my pocket and opened it before her. “Dalshandra, we have known one another for years now. I knew that we were meant to be together. Last night pretty much erased any doubt I might of still have hidden even from myself. That is why I want to ask you this one question… Will you join me in the light of the Goddess as my wife?”

Dal looked at me and then at the ring and her eyes went wide. She tried to speak but for some reason she couldn't seem to pull the words together and make them come out. Instead of speaking her reply, she came off the couch and threw her arms around me and kissed me. After about a minute or two, she broke off, still holding me.

“Yes, Javarr. I will.”
