Final Fantasy - All Series Fan Fiction ❯ LevelHeaded ❯ Chapter 1 ( Chapter 1 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Hello and welcome to my very first chapter of my very first fanfiction! -throws confetti- This will be an A.U. which is set in more real world conditions. The characters will remain in character as much as possible. It is also Valenwind, with a side of CloTi. (Please don't eat me.. It just works for plot reasons, y'know?) I pledge to try very hard! This fanfiction is rated the way it is, um, mainly because of foul language and slashy goodness. And what could be very compromising (and hard to write) scenes in which the characters will be plighted. Please enjoy this first chapter.Yet remember that 'Fuse is a poor child, who does not own much of anything, including Final Fantasy or it's characters. That would be Square Enix. She barely owns the plot! (But does, no less. No stealies, pwease)

Perhaps the most challenging part of a journey is not starting, but ending it.
A small crowd had gathered in the cheaply decorated sitting area, located in the west wing of the Side Street Airways airport. The atomosphere was stifling with the anxiety and nerves commonly dealt with while traveling. Some of the rooms occupants were eagarly listening for the arrival of loved ones, others were dreading their departure. And most all of them were speachless; numbed by the high cost of air fare.
As the air grew thick with anticipation, two new faces trudged to a thread baren sofa. Without a spoken word to any of the residents, or the other, both seated themselves and fixed a stare to the floor. Each fidgeted with his own lugage; a poor attempt to pass the time.
While little could be read in their stoic expressions, the keen observer might say that they were close friends and were heading home after a tiring vaccation with more close friends. An even more keen observer could see a pang of nervousness. With their lack of conversation, perhaps there was some anger or resentment; a driving force between them. An impish or deprived woman might say they were guilty lovers- either to one another, or misstresses they were leaving behind- and were boarding a plane to meet their respective spouses. Had the three discussed the situaton and formed a hypothesis, they might have come close to the duos actual situation.
As the time dragged by, the announcements of cancelled flights became more frequent. The midmorning storm that lay to the west had wandered slightly off course and was now raging on the runway. The lounge gradually emptied as passengers meandered out into the storm. They most likely planned to pass the night at a hotel. Others would journey to one of the aiports bistros to grab a late dinner. EIther way, the two men were the lone occupants of the parlour. Their particular flight had not been cancelled.
A periodic glance to the wall mounted telvision eanred them a gander at the weather forecast.
Snow Tonight.
Hail tommorrow.
Sleet following into the evening. A high of 17 degrees Fahrenheit.
Simultaneous sighs filled the room room, when at long last the intercom system chimed: " Flight two-seven-nine-a to Midland, G.A. is now boarding at gate three. Flight two-seven-nine-a to Midland, G.A. is now boarding at gate three. Thank you for flying Pheonix at Side Street Airways." [1]
Following the announcement, an obscure, unexpectd voice inquired, "Shall we board then, Highwind?" There was little emotion, while the reply conveyed confusion, worry and slight scorn.
"They plan to fly this puppy on a night like this? The fuckin' wings'll freeze over!.. There's just no way in Hell this plane'll make it up. We can't jus-"
"Then what? What do you propose?"
Looking up, firey eyes met those of the heavens' blue, and challenged for a descision. With little else said they broke their silent battle, the baggage was gathered, and the planes few passengers prepared for take off.
As the jet was taxied down the runway, the roar of the engine blended with the howl of the wind; all was swalled in the dark of night without even the moon to comfort them.

Footnotes!
[1] Midland G.A. is actually Midgar, Gaia. But because of the A.U. I just tweaked the name. The climate will, however, be slightly similar to that of Georgias'.
