Chapter One: Where am I? Who am I?


*Sensation washes over me

I can't decribe it

Pain I felt so long ago

I don't remember*

Hope groaned in pain when she started to wake up. Her ribs hurt and has a major headache in her head. She put her hand on her head and felta sticky substance between her fingers. She looks at her hand and see's blood. She looks around and see's nothing but tree's, dirt, and shrubs. She stands up using a tree for support and starts walking to gods no where. About two and a half hours later, she sits down tired and hungry, dried blood in her hair. She can't remember how she got here nor does she know who herself is. Hope started to rumage through her pockets to find anything that could trigger her memory.

She finds two keys and a piece of paper with a picture in it and a few small green pieces of paper with numbers and faces on them. She shrugged as she placed it her her pocket and looked at the three things in her hands.

She looks at the two keys trying to remember something. After ten minutes of staring at them, sighed as she put them back in her pocket and opened the piece of paper. Hope opened it as her eyes went wide at the picture. It was a boy that looked to be the same age as herself was in a fighting stance with some sort of blade wearing mostly black but wearing a white t-shirt and a silver lion necklace. (GRIEVER!! ^^)

He had brown hair and cold blue eyes that hse has ever seen. Another ten minutes passed as she finally looked away from the picture and put it away. She sighed and stood up once again and started walking. After another ten minutes she heard something to her left and walked to that direction.

When she moved a bush from her face her eyes went wide on what she saw. She looked at the person who was fightin a giantred dinosaur that was twice his size. She quickly pulled out the picture and looked at it then back at the person that was 7 feet away from her.

Then suddenly she gasped as she clutched her head in slight pain as two names suddenlly popped into her head as she said them outloud but quietly. "Squall Leonhart... T-Rexsaur..." She assumed that the person was none other than Squall leonhart and the giant creature was the T-Rexsaur.

Hope looked at Squall as he was trying to kill the creature. She quickly put the picture back in her pocket and ran out into the clearing. Yet she did not stop as she opened her coat from the left side and unbuttoned the strap that held her sword. She pulled it out quickly with her right hand.

Squall cursed himself for not bringing sleep magic before coming out here. He was too tired to move anymore; he was glued to his spot holding his gunblade defensively. The T-Rexsaur roared as it started to charge at him at full force. 'So I'm going to die? What a pathetic way to die...' he thought, but suddenly caught movement to his right.

It was a girl in a black trench coat as she ran pretty fast while reaching something inside the left of her coat, then her voice surprised him. "Dodge to your right!" she yelled as she brought up her sword to her left in a slashing position.

He did as he was told and dodged to his right as she jumped into the air and quickly slashed to her right and landed on one kneww with her sword out to her right as she held two fingers that were between her face together with her eyes closed. (If you don't know what I'm talking about look up the anime called Naruto, then you'll know.)

*Tear a hole so I can see

Feelings from so long ago

I don't remember*

The T-Rexsaur stood there that looked to be shocked. then suddenly blood sprayed from its neck as its head fell of its body to a bloody thump as its body fell to the ground in a bloody heap. Hope stood up and flicked the blood off her sword and cleanced the rest on her white shirt and sheathed it. (I'm sure that will stain... -_-;;) She turned around and looked at Squall who was shocked on the ground while staring at the corpse and her back and forth.

She strapped her sword back into her coat as she calmly walked around her dead target and now stood in front of Squall as she stuck her hand out to help him up. He looked at her suspiciously for a second and took her hand. "Are you all right, Squall?"

"Who are you, how did you do that, and how the hell do you know my name?" Squall asked her in a glare. "A simple thank you would've been nice," she sighed as he glared at her more and not say anything. (Of course he never says thank you to anyone^^) "To answer your first question, I don't know who I am or what so ever. I woke up in a forest without a clue where I am or how I got here. When I saw you fighting this creature, two names popped into my head, Squall Leonhart and T-Rexsaur. I assumed that you were Squall and that thing was the T-Rexsaur. You were in danger so without thinking I dashed toward thething and suddenly realized that I had a sword secretly strapped to the left side of my coat and attacked it and that's all I know."

"So, you are telling me that you have no idea who you are and how you got here?" She nodded. "And all that you know is who I am and how to use a sword extremely well without realizing it?" She nodded again. "So you don't know your name or how you old you are and where you're from?" Hope shook her head no. Suddenly she clutches her head in pain and falls to her knees.

Squall kneels next to her in slight (and I say SLIGHT) concern. "What's wrong?"

"Don't... worry this only... happeneds when I... remember something." He nodded and watches her with pain written in her face as tears went down her cheeks. Then something flashed in her mind.

~ Flashback ~

A little girl was playing in a field of flowers happily and giggled as she spun around in the flowers. Then another little girl that she could not see clearly with black hair and ran up to her while giggling also and played together while laughing happily and holding hands and spun around on the soft grass.

"Hope! ~~~~~~~a!" Hope couldn't hear the other name clearly either as her young self and the little girl looked up with a smile on their faces and ran to who ever called them.

~ Another Flashback ~

She saw herself older like she is now as she walked out of the house angrily. "Hope! Where are you going!? It's after 11 at night!" She watched herself ignoring the voice as she walked on. "Hope! I'm talking to you!!"

"Leave me alone Martha! I'm going to a party at a friends house! Jesus Christ!" *She really doesn't have any friends, she's just saying that so she can leave ^^* "Watch your language young lady!! I'm your mother!" She watched her self as she spun angrily and stared at her with her coldest glare. "You. Are. Not. My. Mother! I'm seventeen and I can take care of myself!!" She yelled as she turned back around and walked off.

~End of Flashback~

Hope painfully opened her eyes as sweat rolled down her forehead. "H-How long was I like this?" she asked Squall who was still kneeling next to her. "About fifteen minutes... do you remember anything?" Hope placed her hand on his shoulder and the other on the side of her head as he helped her up to stand. "Yes... also that I'm... an orphan... and that my name is Hope.. and I'm also seventeen... and that's all I know, the rest is all fuzzy..."

She looked at her hand as she pulled it away from her head. Blood smeared on her fingers and gloved palm. "You should have that looked at, come with me to Balamb Garden so Dr. Kadawaki (Sp?) could fix it." Hope nodded and followed him out of the forest, but only to be bumped into two boys.

One was tall with short blond hair wearing a grey trench coat with red crosses on each side of his shoulders, and also has blue eyes as one of his eyebrows went up at her. "Hey, who's this chick?" Hopes eyes went into a glare at the boy in front of her as the other boy decided to speak up. "Seifer, you're so bad with manners."

He was short but not too short around 5'5" with blue eyes, also has blond hair kind of spikey in the front, wearing red sneakers, blue baggy shorts that stops below his knees, red vest and a short sleeved sweat shirt with a grey hood. Also has a black tatoo on the left side of his face. He turned to her with a smile.

"Hi, I'm Zell and the big unfriendly giant without manners is Seifer. What's your name?" Hope crossed her arms. "Hn, my name is Hope, not chick, remember that the next time we meet and it's a pleasure to meet you Zell." said Hope with no emotion in her voice when she shook Zell's gloved hand.

"What the hell happened to you?" asked Seifer as he gave her a flirtatious grin. "And why is a beautiful girl such as yourself doing in a dangerous forest unarmed with Squall, hm?" Still giving no emotion as she glared at him more coldly. "Who says I'm unarmed?"

"Well, don't see a weapon on ya anywhere, unless you're a fighter like small fry here." said Seifer as he pointed his thumb beside him. "Hey! You trying to get a fight with me or something!?"

"Please, I'm not even trying... I'm just asking Ms. Bitch here if she knows how to fight that's all..." Said Seifer looking at him the whole time. Zell looked at Hope as his eyes widen in slight fear and started to back off as did Squall that knows what she's capable of. Seifer raises an eyebrow at Zell and turns to Hope as his eyes widen as he stared at her eyes that was giving him the look of death. Then swiftly as in a blink of an eye pulled out her sword as the tip was pressed against his neck drawing a little blood.

"Now, what did I say about my name? You can say it right?" She asked in a deadly tone. "Hn, you don't have the guts to kill me..." Hope smirked evilly then quickly slashed his thigh and back to her position. "Care to test that theory?" Seifer glared angrilly at her as he quickly pushed the sword aside and threw out a punch.

She quickly ducked as her sword pointed at his crotch. "Or do you wish to lose somthing special to you?" Zell stared wide eyed at the scen and gulped at where her sword was pointing at. Squall was just as surprised and almost laughed at the look on Seifers face, which was filled with shock and fear. 'Wow... she's good.' Thought Squall.

"Now, what is my name?" Seifer looked at her at the corner of his eyes as sweat rolled down the side of his face. He gulped and answered in a mumble. "What was that, I didn't hear you." she said as she lightly pressed harder. "Hope! Your name is Hope!!"Hope smirked. "Hn, good puppy. Now take four big steps back." Seifer did as he was told as she swiftly sheathed and strapped back her sword in her coat and turned to Squall with her face emotionless, but her eyes gave away the amusement.

"So," she said as she saw Squall's eyes widen as he saw Seifer running toward her with his gunblade out. When he was about to slash her she swiftly kicked his weapon out of his hand and punched him hard in the stomach that knocked the wind out of him and fell unconscious. Hope picked him up over her shoulder and looked at the two boys who gave her a look of shock.

"So, how about we go see that doctor of yours, hmm?"

"Um... yeah right this way..." said Squall as he lead her to Balamb Garden. Zell picked up Seifers gunblade and ran up to Hope. "That was so awesome, Hope! How did you do that!?"

"If you want to see something really cool go in the forest where Squall and I came from then you'll be amazed that I only did it in one slash." Zell looked at her oddly. "What?" She sighed. "Just go look and you'll know." Zell quickly ran back into the forest.

"What? I don't see... HOLY SHIT!!" Hope smirked to herself. "Trying to be a show off?" asked Squall as he walked next to her with an emotionless face. "No, I just don't want him to know that I have amnesia. And to tell you the truth I was quite surprised myself."

*Blind your eyes to what you see

You can't embrace it

And don't remember*

"Hm, I see..." While walking on the road advoiding monsters Zell came running up to her once again. "Did you really do that in one slash?" he asked. "If you don't believe me, ask Squall." Zell looked at him and saw him nod. "Wow, wait til the Headmaster hears about this... the students too..."

"Headmaster? Students?"

"Cid is the Headmaster and Balamb Garden is a military academy for people who have the fighting spirit to join SeeD combat unit and such. We are also trained how to use magic elements and G.F.'s." Exlplained Squall. "G.F.'s?"

"Guardian Forces, you can summon elemental beasts to help you through danger." Hope looked at Squall curiously. "If yo were in danger, then why didn't you summon one?"

"I don't have any yet, but I will get some when the time comes for the coming up SeeD Exam."

"You have to take an exam to get into SeeD?" Hope asked emotionlessly. Zell decided to answer that. "Yeah, it's a field exam of combat to test your skills in a real battle. The leader in the squad group gets instructions from the instructor and follows them correctly. When finished you stand by waiting for any instructions from other squad messengers to tell you your instructions."

"Hn, sounds tough. It'll be fun for me I guess, if you pass it what do you get to do?"

"You'll recieve missions from the Headmaster and get to travel around the world and get paid when your SeeD level goes up."

"Hn, interesting... I think I'll join..."

"You'll have to get permission from the Headmaster if your really want to." Hope smirked and shifted her weight that she had on her shoulders and chuckled lowly. "I just might do that, considering I have no where to go." Zell nodded with a small smile on his face. "Well we're here..." Hopes eyes went wide but her face was still emotionless. "It's so beautiful..." Squall and Zell smirked to themselves as they started to walk up the steps.

As they walked they recieved stares from students as they whispered amongst themselves as they past. "Who's that?" or "What happened to Seifer?" Zell started to snicker as Hope and Squall just smirked as they walked through the gate pass. As they walked in theyrecieved more stares and whispers. Hope looked around her at the beautiful scenery. 'Hn, it's even more beautiful inside than the out.' she thought to herself as they started down the infirmanary hall.

The door slid open automatically for them as they walked inside. Dr. Kadawaki stood up from her seat and walked over to them. "Well, this is a first, what happened to Mr. Almasy?" she asked as Hope placed Seifer on the bed. (lol gently! ^^) "He had a bad temper and I took care of it." said Hope emotionlessly. "How long til he wakes up?"

"He'll wake up about an hour or so, he'll be fine. It's me that needs to be looked at."

"Who are you, I've never seen you before." Hope smirked and slightly bowed to her. "My name is Hope, ma'am, and I'm seventeen. Tht's all I know really." she said as she sat on the other bed. The doctor looked at her curiously as she looked at her head. "You have amnesia and only remember your name and how old you are?" Zell wasn't really paying attention as he started to daze off on something.

"Somehow, I knew Squall's name when I saved him from the T-Rexsaur in the forest a couple of miles from here."

"T-Rexsaur!? I bet it was tough for you to handle on your own..."

"Actually it wasn't, I killed it in one slash." The doctor stopped in shock. "You are kidding right?"

"No, I am not lying, ma'am. I tell you the truth." The doctor resumed her work. "Amazing..." After a few minutes the doctor stood up. "It's just a minor gash to the head, it will be gone in about a week. I'll be back with the bandages." said Dr. Kadawoki as she walked away. Zell snapped out of his daze and placed Seifers gunblade down against the wall. "Well I'm gonna go get something to eat (lol HOTDOGS!! ^^) I'll see you guys later!" he said as he walked out.

"He's a strange one, that he is..." Squall nodded agreeing. The doctor came back with a roll of medical bandages and tape. Hope lifted her black hair as the doctor wrapped around her head. When she was finished, she placed a couple of pieces of tape to keep it from falling off. "Done, if you get any headaches, take two of these when ever you get any at all." said the doctor as she handed her a bottle of asprin. Hope nodded and placed it in her coat pocket. "Let's go see the Headmaster now." said Squall as they both left the infirmanary.

*Cut your pride and watch it bleed

When they reached the main halls, about a dozen worth of students crowded around them like dozens of reporters asking so many questions. "Is it true that you beat up Seifer?" and " Did you really kill a T-Rexsaur in one slash!?" and "Who are you? What's your name!?" and "Did you really save Squall from getting killed!?" Hope and Squall had a vein popping out of their foreheads as Hope kept her emotionless mask.

"Hey, she's about to say something!" says one of the students as they all quieted down. Squall, with the vein still showing on his forehead muttered one name. "Zell..." Hope opened her eyes and made the coldest glare that would scare away a T-Rexsaur. The students backed away slightly afraid of her.

"Get the hell away from me, before I severly hurt you..." she said in a low yet dangerous tone. They all stood there stiff. "NOW!!!" She yelled as she made them scatter. "Remind me to find Zell, I'm going to have a long chat with him..." Squall nodded as they started to walk towards the elevator. "Also remind me to take some pills when we're done talking with Cid."

"Hn,"

"That's my line."

"So?"

"Just stating the fact to you." She smirked as he smirked back as the elevator doors closed and went up to the third floor.

The elevator stopped as it opened its doors. They both walked out and knocked on the double doors, they heard a muffle of 'come in' and opened the doors to find the Headmaster crowded with papers. He looked up from his work and gave a warm smile to the both of them. "Hello Squall, who is this young lady?"

"LMy name is Hope and I'm 17 years old, a master swordswoman and marial artist (Boy I'll say...-_-;;) and that's all I know about myself." Cid looked at her curiously. (Everyone likes to act curiously ^^) "She has amnesia and barely knows who she is and barely know who she is and doesn't know how she winded up in the forest in the first place. She saved me from a T-Rexsaur and Seifer had another temper tantrum and Hope took care of it by knocking him unconscious."

Cid was as surprised as Squall explained the whole thing as he watched Squall cross his arms when he said 'she saved me from the T-Rexsaur' with a small scowl and turned to Hope. "So, what I've heard from the students was that you killed a T-Rexsaur in one slash?" Hope nodded politely but with and angered vein forming on her forehead.

She calmed down and looked at Cid when he spoke up. "So you don't remember anything of your past?" she nodded. "And you want me to look into it to search who you are?"

"If it would help me, yes, but I don't want to put you through so much stress that you are in now." said Hope emotionlessly. "Nonsense, I would be happy to help you." said Cid with a smile. "I see you need a place to stay?"

"If it wouldn't be too much trouble, sir, I would like to join Balamb Garden."

*Holding on, to let them know

"I don't see any problem with that, however, I need you to sign a few papers to confirm your stay here. It might take a while though." Hope smirked. "By all means, I have all day. Are you going to wait here for me or do you want to go?" she asked Squall. "I'll come back in a few hours to see if you're done or not, have fun." said Squall with a smirk as he left the giant office.

"Well, shall we get started?" Hope nodded as Cid gave her a packet to fill out and a pen. "There is a small desk over there, give me the papers when you are finished. Then I will give you your ID number and your key to your dorm, you will have a room mate and it will be a girl of course if you like?"

"I don't care who or what gender, just as long they are quiet and not touch any of my stuff." Cid nodded as she walked over to the desk and began her work. After a few hours she finished her work and handed it over to Cid who nodded in approval and gave her ID number and key toher dorm just in time for Squall to come in. "Finished?" Hope nodded. "Would you show her around since you're going to be with her all day? And Hope, come back tomorrow for your schedule."

"Yes sir." How bowed to him as the two of them left the big office and into the elevator.

A few hours of showing her around, they both were surprised that they hadn't seen Seifer all day, but shrugged it off as they went to the cafeteria to get somethign to eat and call it a night. After recieving some food they both sat down at a table and began eating. "So, you want to get up early tomorrow to go train in the training center?" Squall asked.

"Sure, I could give you a few lessons if you like? You know to make you more skillful in battle?" Hope asked with a smirk. "Whatever... I don't care just meet me at the training center at 5 am sharp. Don't be late."

"If only you won't be." Squall closed his eyes witha smirk on his face as he stood up with his tray. Hope did the same as they both threw away their trash and walked out of the caf. As they walked down the dorm hall they spotted Zell about to go down his hall to his dorm, when he heard footsteps he turned around and waved at them.

"Hello Zell, did you have fun on telling everyone what I did today?" she asked with a small vein threatening to form. Zell saw it and started to panic. "Y-You're not mad at me are you?" he asked while shrinking back a little. Hope sighed as she cracked her neck side to side and gave it a little rub showing that she is tired.

"No, I'm not mad at you, Zell. Next time just keep it to yourself okay?" she asked tiredly. Zell sighed in relief as he nodded. "So, you stayin here just for tonight?"

"No, I'm staying here permanately until the Headmaster finds any information about myself." Zell smiled. "All right! Booya!! That's awesome! Thinkin of showing me some moves of yours at the training center tomorrow morning?" he asked as he punched his hand into his other. "If you want to, just meet Squall and I at the training center at 5 am sharp, don't be late." Zell saluted.

"Yes, ma'am! So, which way you headed? I'm this way and Squall's the other way. Left or right?"

"I'm left, I'll see you tomorrow morning Squall." said Hope emotionlessly as she followed Zell down to the left hall. Squall watched her go until she disappeared as he sighed to himself and walked the other direction.

*Cut your pride and watch it bleed

"Well this is my door, you need help finding yours?" Zell asked. "No, I'll manage myself, thanks."

"Well okay. See you in the morning then." He said as he unlocked his door and went inside. As soon as he closed his door, Hope walked down some more and looked at the key number. "Three fourty seven..." She stopped next to the door and looked at the number to confirm it's right. She put the key in the slot and turned it.

The door unlocked as she walked inside and relocked it when she closed it. She flipped on the switch to show a mini kitchen, a small table for two and two doors to her right. Well, she knew the left room was taken because of the sign on the door that says 'Keep out or die'. She walked in the room on the on the right after she turned off the light and closed her door and locked it.

She had a small desk and chair in the far corner on hte right. A nice comfy bed on the left, above it was a uniform. 'A uniform... and it's a dress... fuck...' she thought as she took off her trench coat and placed it on the chair. She sat on her bed and looked at the clock beside her on the night stand. "10:47p.m. no wonder I'm tired..." Just as she took off her boots and gloves about to turn off her lamp, their was a knock on her door. "Must be my room mate..." she whispered to herself as she got up from her bed and walked over to it.

She unlocked her door and opened it wide. 'Great, just great, this is the last person that I want to see tonight before I go to bed.' she thought to herself as she stared at the person with a tired look. "Well, well, hello there roomie. I guess we're room mates from now on." Hope let out a tired sigh and looked at her room mate. "Hello... Seifer..."

*If I can

Remember

To know this will

Conquer me

If I can

Just walk alone

And try to escape

Into me*
