Chapter Twelve.

Zell stayed at home all morning with Irvine, playing video games. It was mostly because Irvine kept challenging Zell to games he knew he couldn't win, but Zell couldn't help taking the challenge because well....beating Irvine was too much fun. "This is the last game Kinneas, do you wanna quit? I'm already 72 wins ahead of your 3."

"Yeah but, I can beat you though." Irvine complained light heartedly.

"Even if you beat me twelve more times, you couldn't possibly come close to my over all score." Zell remarked and Irvine cocked an eyebrow at him.

"Well give a guy some off side confidence." He said sarcastically.

"Hey, I calls it like I sees it."

The selection screen came back up and Zell picked one of his three options. While Irvine only had one option left. "Jolt'." The game character announced when he was picked.

"Hyne, guide this Jolteon to a victory." The cowboy was saying.

"Hyne can't save you now." He put his controller on the floor. "Here, I'll even give you a head start."

Irvine's jaw dropped hearing that. "Well now you're just insulting me." He stated and placed his own controller down.

Zell laughed and stood up saying. "I'm going to the bathroom."

"....Take your time." Irvine watched his friend leave the room and he sat quietly waiting. 'Maybe I should ask him now? What harm could it do?' He thought. 'Aside from say no.....Since when was talkin' so danged hard?' He heard the toilet flushing and the sink water came on. 'Doesn't anyone ever stop and smell the roses anymore?' He wondered hearing the door open shortly after the water was turned off.

Zell walked back into the room without a word and Irvine swallowed hard then looked over at him. "So like, you doin' anything tonight?" The cowboy asked.

"Ahaa," Was all Zell said.

"....That a yes or no?" Irvine asked.

"Maybe-....well yeah actually, I do have plans. Sorry." Irvine dropped his head with an, "Oh."

"Why? Do you need something?" Zell asked then slapped himself mentally. 'There's a stupid question, but is he honestly asking me out?' The blonde wondered.

"Naah, I don't need anything, I just wanted to hang out is all." Irvine replied. "Come to think of it, it was a dumb question." Zell looked at his friends face seeing the humiliation on it and he felt sorry for him.

"Irvine listen, maybe tomo-...." But he was cut off by the wave of a hand.

"I just remembered I have to study for that test in science tomorrow." Standing up, the cowboy fixed his jacket. "I'll see ya later." Walking out the door Zell watched him with a frown and he sighed.

'You pick one hell of a time to start showing that you like me,' Thought the blonde. 'but I gotta meet with that guy tonight.'

"Zell?!" His mother called.

Leaning forward, Zell turned off his game console and walked out of his room downstairs. 'I hardly know the guy and he's already messing things up for me. Maybe this is a bad idea.' He turned into the kitchen nearly bumping into his mother who took a step back.

"Sorry honey." She said grabbing her purse.

"Where are you going?" He asked seeing the keys taken next.

"Next door, I have a bridge game tonight." She explained. "My partner and me wanna practice before the other girls come over, can you make your own dinner?" She asked.

"Yeah," Zell replied.

"You're a prince," Giving him a kiss on the forehead she patted his cheek and walked out of the house saying, "I'll call you."

"Don't bother, I won't be heere." He called after her wishing he hadn't because she turned right back around and came inside.

"And where will you be tonight that I won't need to call?" She asked.

"...Uhhhh, I'm gonna be at Irvine's we have a test in science tomorrow and he asked me to study with him," He stated. 'Good, good go with it.' Zell coached himself. "He's like peter parker in science." He continued.

"Peter who?" His Ma asked.

"Spiderman." Seeing her blank expression he waved it off. "I'll call you instead, how 'bout that?"

She looked skeptical but gave her son the benefit of the doubt. "Alright, call me at 10:15 sharp."

"I will." The blonde stated.

"Okay, bye Zell." She walked out of the house again and he looked around him with his eyes then sat on the couch.

"I wonder what's on t.v?" Grabbing the remote in front of him he started flipping through the channels. "Fairly Oddparents, again?" Complained the blonde, flicking on Food Network. "40 dollars a day, hmmm." He pressed the info button and glanced at the box. "Boston again. God, why isn't there ever anything on t.v?" Putting the remote down he stopped on a movie that was playing on channel 3.

"We interrupt this program to bring you a live news report, from Channel 3 news."

"Sure why not," Remarked Zell about to change the channel until he saw that the camera had a shot of the docs in Balamb. "This morning we found six dead bodies aboard a cargo ship," The anchor man announced. "cops report that the men aboard the ship had their throats slit, just as the victims were a night ago. The source of these mysterious deaths is still unknown, but police officers are looking into the situation we advise everyone to stay in groups if night travel is necessary and keep doors and windows locked."

Zell stared at the television hard imagining Seifer ripping into these victims and draining their blood only to slit their throats afterwards to make it seem as though some serial killer were doing it. "He's never gonna be caught," He thought out loud. '.....unless I turn him in....' Biting his bottom lip Zell turned the t.v off altogether and walked out of his house.

Zell found himself standing outside of Selphie's house knocking on the door. "I know she's home where else would she be?" His ears caught the sound of loud music playing out back and he walked around the side of the house to find the source.

"Love is a healer," He heard her singing. "love is a healer come heal me." Only Selphie would listen to Donna Summer like it's Linkin Park. "Zell!" She called out when she saw him, then she waved him over.

"What are you doing?" He asked.

"What?!" She called back seeing his lips moving.

"What are you do-!" He lowered his voice when the radio went down. "What are you doing?" He asked again.

"What's it look like I'm doing, I'm washing the bat mobile." she said gesturing to the little beetle car she owned. "Wanna help?" Turning on a smile she looked at Zell, nodding. "Say yes, it's so easy to say yes."

Letting out a sigh, knowing he was cornered he grabbed a rag. "Thank you." Selphie walked over to the radio to turn it back up.

"Wait, I need to talk to you without shouting it for the whole world to hear." Zell stated holding out a hand to stop her.

"Oh, okay. Go ahead."

'Always eager to talk.' He thought starting on the roof of the tiny purple car. "It's about this guy." The little blonde started before getting cut off with her trademark. "Ooohh."

"Yeah, but anyway there's this guy I met the other night at the club...and he kinda said he likes me."

"Uh huh." She said to show she was paying attention, although she was looking through a handful of tapes she'd brought outside.

"And I'm not entirely sure yet but, I think I kinda like him too."

The brunette girl looked at him with a shrug. "So what's the problem? Are you nervous about a first date or something?" She asked.

"No, no not that it's just that....well if this guy were a bad person would you see him anyhow?" He asked her and she tapped her finger to her chin to think about it.

".....How bad, cheat on a test bad, or sexy bad boy bad?" Selphie asked, starting on the hood of the car.

'Why did I come to her?' Zell wondered. "Like...steal a car, rob a bank, killsomeone," Zell said rushing the last part out. "bad."

"What was that last thing you said?" She asked.

"Rob a bank?" He lied.

"Oh, than no way! What if they try to get you in on it?" Selphie had a good argument if he'd actually meant that other stuff.

"So you wouldn't see him?" He asked.

"Not if he steals....maybe you should ask him about it." She suggested.

'Good idea!' He cheered her. "Thanks Selph', you're the best." Zell ran over to her giving her a hug then he ran to the fence and left the backyard.

"You said you'd-....oh never mind." Turning the radio back up she started to sing along as she washed.

'All I have to do is ask him about it, and he'll say no and everything will be fine.' He thought on his way home. 'Yeah, but how many vampires have you known in your life?' He turned for his house and froze. 'The door is open, I'm pretty sure I closed it......' Cautiously he walked over to his house and peered inside the front door.

"Hello?" He called in. "Ma!?" No answer. Going inside the house he looked around the living room first then the kitchen, nobody was there. Thump! 'Somebody's upstairs. Oh shit, they might have heard me...' Looking around the kitchen for a weapon he heard another sound above him again.

'Better to just look. I mean, I'm trained for this sort of thing...I should be able to stop whoever's up there.' After giving himself enough confidence, he walked to the landing of the stairs and looked up. 'Be brave.' Taking a step forward he walked up the stair keeping a sharp eye ahead of him for any sudden movements.

As he got closer the sound was getting a little louder making his blood run cold. 'It's not dark enough for vampires to be walking around....right?' Turning the corner the sound was coming from his mother's room. 'Maybe Ma forgot something and she came back for it?' He wondered as he approached the room. "Hello." He called inside before he walked in himself.

Empty. "Then what was that.....?" He looked over at her desk and saw that some books were sliding off the desk. "Oh." Turning around he walked to his bedroom and yanked his shirt off. "I wonder if he'll notice I showered?"

Walking into the bedroom he grabbed something to wear and spread it out across his bed, taking his pants down afterwards he walked into the bathroom and started the water. A shadow crossed the door of Zell's room but he hadn't noticed.

'I wonder if the boy is actually going to come tonight?' Seifer wondered sitting in a tree at the park. There were band members below under a gazebo, playing a night concert for the night walkers that didn't have any real destination. Seifer watched them carefully seeing a group of woman talking to each other and one of them waved bye to their friends and started heading into the woods.

'I really shouldn't....' He thought. '....But whose gonna stop me?' Dropping down from the tree he followed the girl with light foot steps. She seemed to be distracted by anything other than digging into her purse for something.

'Closer,' Seifer thought. 'and closer.' He was a breath away from the woman reaching up to touch her when he heard another woman calling. "Jeanie!" She called. "Jeanie!" The woman turned around and Seifer was already in a tree. "You forgot your cel phone." Her friend said.

"You're a life saver, that's what I was looking for." Jeanie replied, taking it.

"Here let me walk with you." Her friend suggested.

"Oh thanks, you're a total doll."

'Wonderful...if Squall were here we could have taken the both of them at once.' Seifer thought. 'I'll just wait until the crowd clears up.' He thought and looked around him. 'The boy.' A thin smile came across his face seeing Zell walking through the woods.

Letting himself fall from the tree he sat down at the base of it and waited for him to get close enough. 'Maybe I'll be getting that blood after all.'
