Chapter eighteen

TURKS!!

Cloud dropped the heavy sword making a loud thunk that echoed through the reactor. He just killed the mighty general Sephiroth. A man that had slain 100 men with a wave of his sword.

"Hey cloud…we should go." Zak said limping into the room with Tifa in his arms. Cloud nodded.

"Here I can't carry her down the mountain." Zak said handing Tifa off to him and grabbing his large bloody sword.

"God you must have done a number on him." Zak said wiping the blood off on his pants before putting his sword on his back.

"How are you feeling?" cloud asked as he watched him limp slowly down the mountain.

"I think he dislocated my back or something. I'm a little more worried about her." Zak said picking up a stick to walk with.

"She should be ok. I don't think it's very deep." Cloud said shifting her body a little bit.

"Cloud…?" Zak asked stopping.

"What?" cloud said turning around to face him.

"Um well what town are we going back to?" Zak asked as he started to walk forward again.

"There has to be someone that's still alive…" cloud said picking up the pace.

"And…if not?" Zak said flexing his arm.

"… Don't talk like that…" cloud said angrily. Tifa started to stir and open her eyes.

"H-hey she's starting to wake up." Cloud said looking down at her.

"Cloud…I knew you would come…" she said and weakly smiled. A few seconds later she passed out.

"You think that was a good sign?" Zak asked.

"Will you make it back to town by yourself?" cloud asked worriedly.

"Sure I'm a SOLDIER. Why?" Zak asked as he continued to limp down the foothills.

"It would be faster if I ran her there…" cloud said anxiously.

"Then go, boy!" Zak said making an attempt to kick him. Cloud smiled and ran off towards town.

"YOU'D BETTER SHOW UP!" cloud yelled as he ran off. Zak just continued to limp at his own merry pace. Cloud reached the town at an increasingly fast pace. The sun had just risen and most of the fires had dulled down. Cloud panted as he looked around the burnt ash coved town.

"IS ANYONE HERE!" he panted loudly. He continued to walk until he got to the outside of the gates. Zangan was passed out by several other injured people with what looked like travelers hunched over them.

"Hey can you help her." Cloud said as he fell to his knees besides a red headed man with sunglasses on his head.

"Are…you a…shinra soldier?" he asked curiously.

"Yes…but she needs help." Cloud said. A man with long black hair came over and took her from him and started to examine the wound.

"The is a SOLDIER outside of town…he hurt his back." Cloud said standing up.

"Alright, Reno and rude go take this man in the truck and get them." The man with black hair said giving them an odd look.

"Of course sir." A bald man with a goatee said. Cloud walked after them to the truck. Cloud rode in the truck between them. This made him increasingly nervous especially when they started to ask question.

"So what happened to this town?" the red head asked.

"Sephiroth he went crazy. He said something about going to see his mother." Cloud asked looking nervously at both of them.

"And where is Mr. Sephiroth?" the bald man said.

"Uhh H-he…he died." Cloud said swallowing hard. Both of them looked at him.

"Stop joking with us…" the bald man said.

"I'm not he went crazy and…" cloud stopped himself if he said he had killed him he would be arrested or more likely killed.

"And…what?" the red head said.

"And…he jumped into the mako pool." Cloud said nervous that they wouldn't believe him. They both stopped talking and stopped the truck.

"Sorry." The bald man said smirking as he hit cloud with a pipe. He lifted cloud's unconscious body into the back of the truck and covered it with a tarp.

"THE great Sephiroth is dead, huh?" Reno said from inside the car.

"What do you think you think they'll do with him and that other guy?" rude asked.

"Tch it's none of our business. Hey look that must be the other guy." Reno said pointing at a man laying on the ground.

"Looks like our jobs already done." Reno said picking him up and putting him in the truck.

"Let's go this town always was a bit creepy." Reno said turning the truck around.

Later in town

"Good. I called Professor Hojo and he said there would be some tanks in the basement of the mansion. He wants us to stick them in there. He said he should be here in a couple of hours." Tseng said bandaging Tifa up.

"Elena… continue taking care of these villages." Tseng said as he walked behind Reno and rude who were carrying Cloud and Zak.

"Where are they going to be put?" a young blonde girl asked.

"I think they'll be put in the slums somewhere in Midgar." Tseng said sadly.

Later

Cloud woke up several hours later in an odd green tank.

"What? Where am I?" cloud asked himself groaning as he rubbed his throbbing head. He looked all around him Zak was still unconscious in the tank next to him. Cloud heard voices coming down the hall.

"So those two killed Sephiroth?" said a man in a lab coat and glasses.

"Yes sir." Tseng said sternly.

"They should make good experiments…I've been wanting to try something on strong people." The lab coat clad man said. The professor went over to a panel and started typing in some things. His tank started to fill with a bluish green liquid.

"Mako…?!" cloud said starting to panic. He started to pound on the glass only to make a dull thump. He looked around for a way out. His head was starting to go under. Cloud soon gave up and was over taken by the darkness.
