Chapter Nine- Awakening
Tidus awoke slowly at about two in the morning. Realizing what the time was, he figured that Seymour would arrive in Bevelle in thirty minutes. Tidus began walking through the Inn to wake up anyone who was still sleeping; particularly Rikku, Wakka, and Lulu.
He found Yuna sitting in a chair in the main room of the Inn with Auron standing near the Save Sphere speaking to Jecht and Braska. Kimahri was still near the Highbridge. The tension due to waiting was so palpable it could be cut with a knife.
Yuna walked outside with him as he stepped out and spread his wings. In the back of his mind something slowly whispered to him, a voice belonging to the fayth he had last accepted. The awakening process is coming along well and should be done within the hour. It said to him.
Well that's great, especially since Seymour will be here in about twenty minutes. He replied in thought. In the darkness surrounding the city was the being Tidus would have to destroy one last time before the end of his story. Clutching his fayth-borne weapon, the Laevatein X, tightly in his hands he released the locking mechanism and held each sword in one hand. He had already figured out what was probably the best way to utilize the sword's abilities.
Their first target before Seymour would be all of the fiends and then Seymour himself. We just have to hold him for about forty minutes and then everything will be in place. Tidus thought. Behind him, everyone else was walking outside of the Inn and also spreading their wings. They all flew to where Kimahri was to await Seymour's arrival.
The horizon started slowly glowing a blood red when he came into view. They all rose into the air to his height and drew their weapons. With speed great enough to match theirs he came upon them and began trying to attack them. So it begins. Tidus thought as they began dodging back and forth through the open sky above the Highbridge.
Slowly but surely they began to draw him away from the city. Past their old camping spot, over the pond where Tidus and Yuna had their first kiss, through the narrow gap leading to the cliff and finally they were in the open area above the Calm Lands.
As they did, hundreds of winged warrior monks started descending from their waiting area nearly a mile above to ground. By then everyone was in the center of the Calm Lands.
"Okay guys, start destroying the fiends! We'll take care of Seymour!" Tidus yelled.
The monks started taking aim at the various fiends running around and picking them off one by one with their rifles. Tidus and the others began circling on the ground, each with their weapons drawn. Seymour began chanting something, however.
"Surgite! Inventite! Veni hortum veritatis! Horti verna veritatis!" He yelled into the sky above him. "Come to me, Hecate!"
The ground around them started shaking as Hecate slowly gathered its body together and rose out of the dirt. Auron, Jecht, and Braska all started attacking it with their various weapons. Jecht flew high into the air and threw the blades on his arms outward to form the real Dragon's Wings sword and dove back towards it. Flying by and slashing the monster with quick strikes, he succeeded in distracting it for a main attack by Auron and Braska. Auron leapt and flew thirty feet into the air then thrust the blade down towards the ground at Hecate's right arm as though he was doing his first Bushido overdrive move, Dragon Fang, but through the enemy and not the ground.
The attack cut of Hecate's arm but as it fell it became dirt again and rejoined his body, reforming his arm.
"Hey Auron, I don't know about you but I think this might be a problem." Jecht hollered as he continued to try to slash through Hecate.
"I have an idea. Lord Braska, try an ice based spell on it." Auron replied.
"Okay, stand back." Braska answered. He lifted his arms and the Storm Holder into the sky to do start a Blizzagata spell. The creature's body also became ice as a huge sphere of ice formed around it in less than five seconds.
"Jecht, now!" Auron yelled.
Jecht flipped the Dragon's Wings back to their backwards position but had the edge facing the fiend, forming a ninety degree angle between his arms and the blades. He began to spin around in a circle and then while doing so flew near the ground directly at Hecate's chest. The attack was like taking a drill and drilling through a surface as it cleanly cut Hecate in half. On both halves you could clearly see a rising cut mark that made a perfect half-circle on each.
Each half of the monster fell to the ground and broke into many small pieces of ice.
"All right! Good call Auron." Jecht shouted as he, Braska, and Auron began flying back to where the others were.
The real battle began as they joined back up with the others. Tidus, Wakka, and Kimahri were trying attacking Seymour but he kept dodging. Lulu was worthless because he had already cast Reflect on himself. Meanwhile Yuna began casting Shell, Regen, and Protect on each of the others and herself.
Ten minutes after Auron and Jecht joined the fight Seymour finally got wounded. The Reflect spell had worn off and Lulu had just enough time to cast Ultima once before he casted again.
The battle continued off and on like this for over an hour but finally a serious blow was struck. Unfortunately it dealt to Wakka. Seymour had used the double-cast ability and the second of the Ultimas hit Wakka as he was dodging the first. Tidus watched as it stunned him for a second before Yuna used a Full-Life on him and brought him back. The battle then resumed until finally Seymour weakened enough to begin a real fight.
After another thirty minutes of attacking him with their weapons, the group finally brought him down. Just as Tidus moved in for the kill though Seymour shouted a command to the army that had created a dome around them.
"All of you take careful aim at Tidus and then destroy him at once with the guns. Do as I have commanded!" He shouted as the all aimed at Tidus.
Tidus took a couple of steps back from the others to make sure they didn't get killed as well like he was about to. Seymour stood up and then raised his right arm as a signal for them to ready themselves.
"Fire!" Seymour shouted as of the warrior monks, nearly three hundred in all, fired their rifles. As the bullets flew through the air faster then the speed of sound, Tidus just let his mind flow free before his death.
The first one struck him, closely followed by two hundred and ninety nine more. His body was peppered with the gunfire but miraculously his head was unscathed. Before he fell to the blood loss, the fayth spoke quietly into his mind. You must listen carefully or else you will die. Your true power has been awakened; just concentrate now and it will heal you and grant you victory.
Tidus used every last ounce of energy to concentrate on the new power and soon an aura surrounded his body, clouding his vision. The aura looked like the fluid inside of a sphere and it began to fill his wounds. It healed up his body completely then he felt the real changes begin.
It started in his legs. It felt as though someone or something was building armor around his legs upwards. It covered his chest and then spread across his arms, completely covering them as well. Finally it surrounded his head and then the aura spread a little outward, allowing him to open his eyes finally even though it still surrounded him.
He looked at his new body and felt around himself. After a first glance he realized that he was now a smaller version of Bahamut but his body was a golden color. The armor itself did not weigh anything to him and felt as though it was completely natural to his body. "Good, your transformation is complete." Said the fayth as it appeared in front of him. "Now all everything is ready for the real battle. But you must be swift for if you are not, all will be destroyed by Seymour."
The sphere-blue aura then shot outwards in all directions and when Tidus looked again it was gone and the entire army of warrior monks was lying on the ground, every one of them dead. Well that was a little unexpected. He thought to himself as Yuna and the others opened their eyes and looked at him.
"It's Ba…Bahamut! But it is not possible! Any aeons that a summoner takes are then joined with the summoner in spirit." Braska said. "What work of the fayth is this?!"
"It is not our doing but rather a twist of fate. We only created the dreams, not controlled them." The fayth said, appearing about five feet away from where they were standing.
"Created the dreams… then the aeon is really…!" Braska said but he did not finish his sentence because it was too unbelievable. Finally after a moment Tidus as the golden Bahamut finally spoke.
"It is as the fayth told us when we first received our wings guys: `You will be clad in the armor of the fayth.' It all makes sense. They give us wings first, then weapons. It is only correct that they give us the armor to battle in." Tidus said with a slight chuckle. "Well I guess they want Seymour finally gone forever as much as we do."
"If you think that this transformation will grant you the ability to destroy me; you are more pathetic then I thought, son of Jecht." Seymour said.
He then said a few incomprehensible words and then something appeared in front of him. It was a staff about six feet long. It was made out of stone but it was a remarkable artifact. Along the sides of the rod were runes that were the ancient writing of Yevon. In the center on two opposite sides of it was a keyhole about three inches high and an inch wide. On the top of the rod was a precious gem that made a perfectly shaped oval all around. It was a dark shade of blue that was like midnight violet. After it had appeared, Seymour said his last words.
"This is the Key of Maorix. When a summoner uses it, they give their life and they join with the aeon to control it completely. So with my death I will take you down to the underworld and the Farplane. Then I will be reborn with the Rebirth spell and rule for all eternity on this planet and soon the entire universe." He said with the malevolent laughter that could send a shiver down anyone's spine.
Just then, what looked like four pyreflies emerged from the rod. Each pyrefly was a different color. The first was red for the element of Fire, the second white for Ice. The third was gold for the element of Thunder and the last one was blue for Water. The red and white pyreflies came out one of the keyholes on the rod while the other two came out from the other side. Each pyrefly circled up the staff followed or led by the other ones until they were a little above the orb at the top. They all hovered there for a moment and then all of the pyreflies entered the midnight violet orb at the same time.
The first thing to change was the orb. It began to grow brighter and brighter until it was shining like the sun. The runes along the rod began to glow as well and then finally it happened.
Seymour disappeared and the rod shattered into a thousand pieces. In the air above them, the aeon Colossus finally came into being. It was a massive dragon at least the size of Sin if not far bigger. It was a dark blue like the orb had been. It had four wings and a line of spikes running along its back. The aeon was more terrifying than any of the group had ever seen and ever would again. They watched as it began to create a massive spell attack in front of itself, aimed towards them.
"Hey guys; I just wanted to say that if any of us doesn't make it out of this one, it's been fun; ya?" Wakka said.
"All you have to do is concentrate and then you can destroy this creature. Remember that you have the power to create or destroy as you see fit now. So I suggest that you people start using that power while the armored warrior guards you." The fayth said. Tidus flew up to Colossus' face and started attacking him; distracting him so that the others could begin to concentrate.
"Okay; here we go guys!" Rikku shouted as Colossus' body began to disintegrate. It began at his tail; the power to destroy began to turn his body slowly into dust. All they had to do now was wait.
Meanwhile, Colossus' attention was being drawn towards them, for he knew of their plot against him. Finally it broke away from Tidus' relentless attacks and rushed down to destroy them.
It was about fifty feet away from them and still coming as Tidus rushed in front of it again. He drew Colossus towards the ground but far away from his friends. Finally when the two combatants landed, Tidus as Bahamut did a back flip and landed on his hands and feet, the Bahamut part of his brain taking over. The energy grew slowly in front of his open mouth as he prepared to fire the last Overdrive, the Omega Flare.
The energy glowed a deep red, like blood. Finally it shot from in front of his mouth and towards Colossus, creating a massive explosion as it went. The fires from the explosion gathered together and made a hurricane of flames as it descended onto Colossus' body, burning him far worse than any spell could do.
The massive aeon fell unconsciously because of the magnitude of Tidus' inhuman attack. Since the aeon was not awake, Tidus began to help the others concentrate on destroying it. Finally after about three minutes, their work was done and the aeon Colossus was finally gone.
"Well done. But now you must destroy Seymour's soul and the fiends that can recreate him from this realm and the next. Only then will your work be done." The fayth said, appearing in front of them as usual. They all concentrated as hard as they could for a little over a half an hour and finally their work was done. The fiends that had since the dawn of time ravaged Spira were no more and neither was Seymour. They had completely beaten their enemy this time and no one had been lost.
Only one more thing to do.
Tidus thought to himself as they began flying back to Bevelle after he figured out how to change back to himself again. They arrived less than ten minutes later and found the person they were searching for. Maester Hiroc.
They took him outside and then called Bevelle to the Highbridge to witness his trial and execution.
"Maester Hiroc: you are on trial for traitorous behavior to the people of Spira. You have conspired against them and the will of our creator and aided the deceased Seymour Guado in his attempted destruction Spira beginning at the Farplane." Lord Braska said since he was chosen to be the judge of this trial. "You will now be erased from existence on this realm and the next so that you can never try what you did again. Goodbye and may God take mercy on your soul."
After Braska was done, Auron who had been chosen to execute him grabbed the Gatekeeper and killed him and then destroyed the pyreflies that came from his fading spirit.
Before they boarded the Condor to return to Besaid, they chose Shelinda to be the new Maester of the warrior monks. It was finally peaceful in Spira again and now the real `Eternal Calm' could begin.
It's about time. I was beginning to believe that old saying about there being no rest for the weary.
Tidus thought as he watched Bevelle slip into the distance from the outer deck of the airship.
