Final Fantasy - All Series Fan Fiction ❯ Ruby Light ❯ Prologue
Ruby Light
Weakness.
I am drowned in the depths of this young soul.
Is that not how it has always been? Transferred from summoner to summoner through
millennia, imprisoned at last in a tiny gem, to be picked up and put away?
Ah, nay…
I am the small one, the "useless," the "cuddly weakling." I huddle miserably in the corners of
this place, never summoned now, never needed.
I should have died away long ago, fading into the shadow until I had become a thing of only
dream and memory, but I did not. For, I live for freedom…that one small moment…
*******
rush upward from the depths-
appear overhead-
glare of sunlight.
Breeze blowing over my fur and flesh...
"Ruby Light!"
Catch the faces of the ones below me, who depend on me now for protection.
There is my newest mistress, ah - but she is a child, a child!
No more time to think - raw power exuding…
Crimson Reflect spells springing up to cover all, and my purpose is over.
A name slides whisper-soft in my brain. Eiko Carol…ah, it is the child, my powerful young
mistress-child.
Then down, down, back into the dark -
*******
No more summons after that…no more at all. Held in thrall by this one, when all have learned
to cast my own spell to an even larger extent…beaten by the magic of these weapons, eh?
No more hope. Why should there be? It has been too long.
Slumping within my mistress's mind, I allow the shadows and softness to swirl over me,
burying and cloaking me…and the memories of freedom slip away.
Soon, I will be just a memory myself, lost in the timelessness of this mind, this world, this
universe.
It is enough to break away and still be there for all who have known me. Distant as the stars
overhead…yet near as thought.
Always.
