Chapter six

That night everything was running perfectly, just the way it should have. Seifer and Zell decided on the spur of the moment to see a movie before having dinner. Once the movie ended they headed to Balamb Hotel.

"I thought we were going to dinner?" Zell asked, happily bouncing around Seifer as they walked towards the building. He was glad to finally be out with Seifer and not have to worry about anything going wrong, like Irvine showing up.

Zell didn't like having to tell his best friend they couldn't see each other for awhile but he didn't see any other way to fix things. He didn't want to upset Seifer anymore and he didn't want Irvine getting hurt, so he did what he thought best. Even if it meant losing a friend.

'They just need some time away from each other and things will go back to normal.' Zell gave his head a mental shake not wanting to spoil there night with bad thoughts.

"We are having dinner but first we need a room for later." Seifer reached an arm out grabbing Zell around the waist, pulling the boy towards him with ease. Zell gladly stayed put in the arms of his lover as they went inside the hotel.

"Room for two, something nice." Seifer ordered the receptionist more than asked when they reached the front desk. "Just one night." He added and filled out the book.

The woman did as he asked getting them a key to one of the nicer rooms in the hotel. Seifer paid her in exchange for the key. "Enjoy your stay." She said once the switch was made and the two headed towards the elevator.

(Irivne) Dinner with Squall was short lived since he had somewhere else to be and I'd lost my appetite anyway. We parted ways and I've been wandering the school since. Staring off into space, hands in my pockets going over what happened earlier.

"How could Zell do this to me.... to us?" Guess I can't be mad at him though. I know its not his fault. He's just trying to keep the peace... and protect himself. That damn Seifer has gone too far now. He's probably got Zell believing he's a saint and I'm the fucking devil incarnate.

"I can't let this go on too much longer. But what the hell can I do?"

I can't just ignore it like Squall said. He doesn't understand anyway. I can't tell anyone else but I also can't sit back and watch Zell spiral to his doom under the- That's it! I can keep an eye on Zell from the distance. That way I can be near him without pissing off Seifer because he won't know I'm there.

"Irvine Kinneas you are one smart guy."

Yeah but how will I find them? They might not even be in town for all I know. So much for my new found brilliance. I readjusted my hat and took a seat on a nearby bench waiting for an epiphany. Which I suddenly got as an instructor walked by talking on her cel phone. 'That's it I'll just call around and ask.' Getting up quickly so as not to waste anytime I ran to find the school payphone.

Seifer and Zell got to their hotel room and went in to make sure it was up to standard. Well that was Seifer's idea, Zell didn't care either way. "Looks good to me." The little blonde observed going into the dark room. Seifer followed behind flicking the light switch on.

"It could be better." He mumbled to himself inspecting the small hotel room. Zell busied himself sitting on the bed and bouncing lightly up and down.

"It doesn't have to be perfect." He replied to Seifer's comment even though there was no need to.

"What are you doing?" The taller blonde asked joining his boyfriend on the bed.

"Testing the merchandise. Ya know, breaking it in." Zell answered with a grin.

"Well then you're doing it all wrong." Seifer said and pushed Zell down on the bed climbing over top of him. "You need to apply more pressure." He whispered by the boys mouth before pushing their lips together for a brief kiss. "But later for that, first we eat." Seifer stood from the bed grabbing Zell's hands pulling him up as well. The two left the room Zell leading the way and Seifer right behind him, arms around Zell's neck.

(Irvine) "Are you sure they're not there?..... Alright thanks anyway."

'Damnit!' I've called every restaurant in Balamb and the happy couple weren't at any of 'em. In my frustration I slammed the phone back down on the reciever.

"Are you finished now?"

I turned to the sudden voice finding a young cadet bitterly waiting behind me. He was your typical greasy fourteen year old. "Hold your horses partner. I'm sure those nine hundred numbers are always in service."

"Rrr." Heh heh just getting a reaction from that little punk boosted my spirits but only by some. I've still got the bigger problem of finding Zell to deal with. Moving away from the payphone I gestured the boy over.

"All for you." He mumbled something under his breath and pushed past me in a huff. I started my journey around the garden circle for the second time hoping to get another idea of what I should do. Instead of getting ideas all I did was worry myself and panic. 'What if Seifer took him out of town? What if they never come back?' Who knows what could happen to Zell if I'm not around to protect him.

"Alright Kinneas calm down. Now I'm a sniper and its my job to track people down." So why am I having such a hard time trying to find a way to find Zell? It suddenly hit me. Instead of calling around I'll drive around and look for Seifer's car. That way once I find them I can keep an eye on him until they're back at the garden.

"Now your thinkin' brain. I gotta stop talking to myself." Redirecting myself I turned and headed for the parking garage to borrow a car.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"How would you feel about taking a trip?" Seifer asked out of the blue. The two had finished their meal and were sitting at their table relaxing and drinking before heading back to the hotel. Putting his drink down, Zell looked across at his mate in confusion.
"A trip? Where?"
"I don't know. Where ever you want to go." Seifer answered smiling sincerely at him hoping Zell wouldn't be suspicious of his intentions. Seifer knew Irvine well enough to see that he wouldn't back down from Zell easily. So he figures separating the two for awhile will give him the upper hand. Not that he should be battling for what's already his anyway.
"Gee I don't know." Zell scratched his head as he pondered the question. 'I guess a little trip won't be so bad. He probably wants to be away from Irvine for awhile. I can understand that, it might even make things easier on all of us.'
"Yeah sure, we can go." Zell answered a smile plastered on his face.
"Good. We'll figure out where later." Seifer said and stood leaving the money for the bill on their table. Zell also stood after taking one last drink and followed Seifer out of the restaurant. Outside Irvine was parked nearby looking very stealth as he watched the two get into Seifer's car. His heart sank seeing Zell hanging all over the other blonde all he could think was that should be him.
It was such a pretty picture but Irvine knew that's all it was....... just a picture, a mirage. Beneath the surface Seifer was angry and jealous and Zell, confused and scared. The new age cowboy was determined to fix that.
Once the couple were in their car and pulling off, Irvine started up his engine and followed them.
"Balamb Hotel?" He questioned once they'd reached their destination. Getting out of his borrowed car minutes after they had Irvine followed them inside curiously. He heard Zell's quaint laughter just before they disappeared into the elevator.
"Shoot." Going over to the front desk Irvine smiled politely at the woman standing behind it. "Howdy ma'am." The young woman looked up briefly from her nail filing. "Those two gents that just came by here," He began thumbing the direction of the elevator where Seifer and Zell just were. "See they're friends of mine and I wanted to drop in on 'em so I was wonderin'-"
"Huuh you want their room number right?" The receptionist asked boredly.
"Well yeah and a room possibly near theirs." Irvine added a little embarrassedly wondering what could be going on in the woman's mind at this point. The way she spoke it seemed as if she could care less about him and his intentions or anything else for that matter.
"Let me check."
"I appreciate it." While Irvine waited for a room he ran over the reasons in his mind that Seifer could have for bringing them to a hotel. 'Well duh Kinneas they probably want privacy. Yeah but why can't they do that in their room at the Garden? It would have saved me the trouble of tracking them down and the money its gonna cost me for a room.'
"They're staying in room 24B, second floor and lucky you 26B is open right next to that."
"Great. Thanks alot." Irvine took the room key and paid the woman for his one night in one quick sweep then made his way to the elevator. 'I hope they did only come here for private matters and Seifer's not planning to kill Zell and dump his body in the water.' Getting off the elevator Irvine quickly found his room and 24B beside it. He causally looked around the empty corridor before pressing an ear lightly to his friends door. The sound was muffled but he could hear their voices talking casually.
"Damnit I can't make out a thing." Deciding being out in the open like that wasn't safe the sharp shooter went inside his own room. "Guess I'll have to wait till morning and see if I can catch Zell before he leaves." Just for one last check Irvine put his ear to the wall connected to Zell's room but that proved more useless than the door. Sighing, he sat on the bed and started dressing down for the night. Lying in bed he put his arms behind his head and stared up at the ceiling.
"I must be crazy for doin' this." He casually spoke to the air. "Oh well too late to stop now."
In the room next door Zell and Seifer fall onto the bed. Mouths pressed and tongues entwined, hands busily removing all traces of clothing. Both mouths eliciting soft moans as they ravished each other.
Seifer nipped at Zell's ear whispering the words "Mine" before he began possessively making love to his little blonde. While Irvine listened to the silence of his room waiting for the night and its events to pass.
