Final Fantasy - All Series Fan Fiction ❯ The Fox and the Hound ❯ Yearning ( Chapter 1 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
The first stand-alone in this drabble collection of Gengeal which feature AU's, CC, pre CC and everything in-between. Some of these are going to be romantic, happy, and utterly sweet. The others will be tragic, not always pleasant, but poignant in their own right. This is a stream of conscious thought Angeal has, Pre-Crisis Core in my own type of open-verse poetry.

Dedicated to CookieCat. I love you, and you made me a better Gengeal writer.

I own nothing.

"I don't want to live a day without you

I just want to make you happy." ~Secrets in Stereo, Happy

Yearning

If there was one thing I could ever do

Just for you

Only for you

It would be to make you smile.

Not the smile you show the world,

That tense grimace,

That nervous twitch of your lips

That you're obliged to reveal.

There's no light in your eyes when you do that.

This…strained smile of yours.

There's no spark, no fire.

No gleam or glimmer of life

Behind those blue eyes.

If I could

In my silence,

In my words,

In my companionship

I'd make you happy enough

To smile for real;

To smile without motive.

If I could see your face

Looking up at the blue skies

The tumbling clouds in the heavens

Beneath the trees

Looking upon the world in your

Soft, ever-feeling gaze

I'd be pleased.

If you were to

Look at me without

Wanting something petty

Wanting something superficial

I'd be overjoyed.

I want for you to be happy.

I want for you to smile

Toss your hands in the air

And just smile that beautiful smile.

I want for there to be

No ambivalence

No strain

No second-guessing

In your eyes.

"I'll always be with you. I want you to be happy."

You smile, and you laugh.

It sounds like you're choking on nails.

"Happiness…I want it too."

You smile, turn your head, and there's pain everywhere

In your eyes

On your lips

On the shadows of your features.

How could I have missed that you were…unhappy?

Nothing can ever be forced.

With my presence

With my body

With my blood

I make this vow:

Take my honor,

Take my morals,

Take my life-lessons,

Take it all;

It's yours.

If all that I am

My existence,

My ill-composed life,

My emotions, thoughts and feelings

Can make you smile,

Can make you laugh,

Then it's my mission to do it.

"What happened to your smile?"

You turn from the pages of your books

Your words

Your obsessions

And consternation becomes you.

Silence permeates

Silence creates

Words are found.

"I'm just…going through something. I'll get it back."

You set the book down, pat the ground

And urge me to come forward.

"Stay with me?"

How could I not?

The skies are dark

Filled with points of light

Stars, dreams, constellations

You're asleep on my shoulder

Happy, content…and there it is.

There's that smile I looked for.

Are you only happy when you're sleeping?

You're not very heavy;

You never were.

You're no burden to me; you'll never be.

Tapered fingers grip my shoulder

In sleep

In slumber

No; not slumber at all.

"I'm happy with you."

A hushed sigh,

A muffled exhalation.

Batted eyelids, carnet lashes;

Lapis eyes, magical eyes.

And there it is…that smile.

If I'm to be your happiness…it's the best honor there is.

There's no cross to bear,

No cumbrance,

No burdens.

There's only my yearning

For your happiness.
