Final Fantasy - All Series Fan Fiction ❯ The Road To Dawn ❯ Cross Section 1; The Skies of Iriya ( Chapter 1 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
...Yeah, I had this previously up, but took it down because I wasn't happy with the plot I had in mind. :D So, in light of that, I changed it around and reposted it. Voila. :]

First of all; I DO NOT own the wonder that is FFVII: Advent Children. I'd have to call you insane if you thought I did. :]

Secondly; In conjuction with the above notice, I DO NOT own the characters. What I DO own however, is the various OCs appearing within the story and the plot. Steal anything and I'll have your head on a silver platter. Icey has been my oc for years, I've worked hard building up her personality(Though mirroring my own ;]), abilities etc., if she is taken away from me by some heartless jerk, I'll kill you. n.n Sound fair?

Thirdly; Where constructive criticism is accepted, downright flaming is not. It is against the rules and if I spot any, I'll report it. ;o Hate to sound like a dobber, but hey, I don't tolerate people who go around and mindlessly bash the work of people, whom need I remind you are VOLUNTARILY putting THEIR time and effort into writing these stories. :]

Fourthly; Coarse language can be found throughout this story, it's nothing too harsh, but keep that in mind. Violence follows a similar path. :]

Lastly; Where this is based on AC, watching the movie is not 100% necessary, but reccomended anyway since it's so great. :D This story WILL contain spoilers of the movie, if you haven't seen it, leave now. >>

Okay, now that I have those areas covered, I can move on.

Plot; After returning to mere Lifestream, Kadaj's consienceness was sent to Iriya, one of Aeris' ideas to give him a second chance at life, to redeem himself. Free from Mother's bind, he is now able to think and act on his own, uninfluenced by outside resources. Everything that happened in Midgar remains a mere dream to him. But when that dream ended, everything else started. After a rough start in Iriya, he meets a young Sorcerer Hunter who puts his life and 'dream' experiences alike into perspective. Love and hate; Revenge and redemption, all go hand in hand as Iriya spirals out of control. Asirias has returned to finish the job; to fulfill the tragic legacy of Iriya, and finally, the world.

Okay, chapter time.

Road To Dawn; Cross Section 1; The Skies of Iriya

Darkness... that was all Kadaj could see. Mother... that was all Kadaj could think about. Cloud Strife... that was the last thing Kadaj could remember seeing, until he noticed his own hand dissolving back into the Lifestream, it was painless, oddly enough. But who knew, maybe death wasn't as painful as people make it out to be.

"Kid..., oi, kid.."

A voice? Yazoo? Or was it Loz? So much confusion... Kadaj's head was still spinning, but even so, he could feel that something was missing...

"Hey, kid. Wake up, already." It was that voice again. Louder and firmer this time, sending an acute sensation of pain, something Kadaj never really witnessed before, pulsating in his head. The young man jerked awake, only to be temporarily blinded by the bright sunlight as it flooded the area around him. Squinting his mako green eyes and blinking a few times, he gave himself time to adjust his vision properly before analysing his surroundings. He pushed himself up from the hard floor, which was actually an old wooden bench, and instantly grabbed his head, waiting for the pain from before to dissipate.

"'Bout time kid. Though I was gonna have to take ya to the hospital or somethin'. You young ones never could hold your booze well. Go home, kid." Before Kadaj could get a proper look at the person speaking to him, he was gone. Not bothering to call out for them, he sat on the bench, shifting his position so he was sitting properly, his black leather body suit squeaked ever so slightly with his movements. Where was he? Why did he feel so...empty? With an exasperated sigh, he leaned forward, propping his elbows comfortably on his knees as he stared down at the pavement below him. The warm sun was beating down onto his back, filling him with a warmth he rarely felt during his short stay in Midgar. He wasn't aware of the time passing him by as he sat on that lone bench, trying to make sense of the mass confusion in his head. The events he vaguely recalled in Midgar seemed... fake to him. Like a misty dream bordering the horizons of his mind. The last thing he said before passing out was 'Mother'... what did that mean...?

Wait.

Mother??

Instantly, lights went off in his head. The vast space in his memory which Mother had occupied was now empty. Gone. Was that why he felt so awkward? So empty... alone? Kadaj clenched a tight fist and furrowed his eyebrows, his black pupils tightening into mere slits in his frustration. In his scrutiny of his present situation, Kadaj never noticed a girl watching him. She stood a few feet away, holding a newly purchased mocha in her hand. Seeng him hunched over like that, she eyed her drink, then Kadaj. Smiling in amusement, she waltzed up to him casually, holding the drink out to him.

"The sun's only gonna get hotter around this time of year, and you choose to wear black. Not very wise even if I do say so myself." She tilted her head and smiled at him, feigning a slight chuckle. Kadaj looked up at her with a flat expression spreading over his face.

"Get away from me." He said monotonously. The girl before him raised both her eyebrows in surprise.

"Ooooh, Mr. Bad Attitude huh? Well, let me tell you something. You're just going to get angrier if you sit in the sun without a cold drink to cool you off." She shook the drink slightly in her hands, the ice inside rattled against the plastic which contained it. Some of the condensation was shaken off, some landing on Kadaj, but mostly hitting the ground.

"..." Kadaj said nothing, he was too busy wondering what the hell was up with this girl. He rolled his eyes when she grinned.

"Heh. Did I win, yet?" She continued to hold it out to him, obviously unphased by his threatening glare in her direction. Figuring that she wasn't going to leave him alone anytime soon, he snatched the drink from her hand, grumbling all sorts of colourful words under his breath. He couldn't admit that he wasn't thirsty, but on the other hand, he wasn't the most patient of people. The girl wiped the condensation on her jeans before reaching up and tucking her usually well kept amthyst hair behind her ear. Looking at the drink in his hands, he turned back up to the girl for 'reassurance', trying to find some sort of motive behind her deep purple eyes, it wasn't that he was hesitating...he was just.... okay, so maybe he was hesitating... Who wouldn't? After all, a complete stranger waltzed up to him, seeming out of nowhere, and offered him a drink. He didn't even know what the drink was, some sort of brown liquid to say the least. Inwardly shrugging, he took a cautious sip and almost gagged at how sweet it was, he could have sworn it was more sugar than water... assuming water was in the list of ingredients. Still, he said nothing of the taste until he finished it off.

"That was disgusting." He stated simply. The girl raised an eyebrow,

"Then why'd you finish it off? And to be honest, it tasted kind of bland until you scoop sugar into it.." She snickered at his flat expression.

"Cause I was thirsty." Kadaj replied, keeping his answers short and to the point.

"Uh...huh. Well anyway, I'll...see you around, I guess. Toodle pip." Waving briefly, she turned on her heel and walked away, leaving a somewhat stunned Kadaj behind. For a little while longer, he sat there, watching her walk away before he finally got up, only to feel something hit the back of his legs. Whirling around, he noticed it was his Souba. Gee, he must have been pretty zoned out for him to forget about the presence of his trusted double bladed sword. Shaking his head, he turned back to where the girl was walking off to, only to find she was gone. Great, he had just lost the only person he 'knew' who could have given him some of the answers he seeked.

"Tch... I never caught her name either..." Shaking his head at himself, he turned into the sun and walked. Where to, he had no idea, but atleast it was better than sitting down and looking like a complete fool. Kadaj wasn't walking for too long either, before he felt something whiz past him and stop just a few feet behind him. Furrowing his eyebrows he slowly turned around, curious as to what it was. Nothing, there was nothing there...

Wait a minute...

Kadaj blinked when he swore he saw the air ripple, like the surface of water after someone just threw a rock or something to that extent into it. Within a few more seconds, it moved on into the opposite direction to what Kadaj was walking, well, that was until he decided to turn and follow it- whatever it was. Reaching behind him, he briefly touched his sheathed Souba, unable to stop the slight grin from appearing on his face.

Maybe this weird new city wasn't so boring after all.
