chapter 2

Outside of Zell's little home in Balamb the Weekly Reader newspaper hits the front door with the picture of Seifer from last nights match on the front page.

Inside Zell's house his Ma's in the kitchen making breakfast and hears the the paper hit the door. Zell comes into the kitchen yawning and goes to the fridge for a drink. "Morning champ, would you be a dear and get the paper for me?" "Sure Ma" He closes the fridge back and goes into the living room to the front door. When he opens it he looks down and reads the headline quietly to himself then he looks at the picture.

"Wow." He mouthed to himself and lifted the paper and brought it inside still staring at the picture. He went back into the kitchen and sat at the table just as his Ma put his food down. She paused and looked at him, "You gonna stare at that all morning or eat?" "Huh? Oh right, thanks Ma." She smiled at him then reached for the paper.

"What're you starin' at anyway? 3 hits 3 seconds huh, hm he must be real good or real big. Well I'm gonna take the rest of this and you can keep your front page." She pulled off the front page and took the rest of the paper sitting down herself to eat, she began to read.

Zell stopped eating for a second to stare back at the front page. 'He is good if he beat that guy just like that,' He read on 'and he's a regional champion...... and sexy as hells. Snap out of it Dincht he's probably not even gay and chances of meeting are slim to none.' Zell sighed and took one last look at the picture. 'but still he's good looking.' He put the picture aside and began eating again.

When he was finished he helped clear the dishes then ran to his room with the paper to get ready for school. After getting his books ready he pulled a pair of scissors from his desk and sat on his bed cutting out the picture of Seifer. He put the scissors back and folded the rest of the paper sliding it into the desk drawer.

"Seifer Almasy," He said staring at the picture again. "Even his name is hot. I need to get a grip. Can't fall for every cute face I see. Being gay is really hard." He said to himself then he picked up his things and put the picture in the drawer as well.

He ran out his room and down the stairs. "Later Ma." He rushed past her sitting on the couch and to the door. "Aren't you forgetting something hon' ?" She called after him. He paused "Oh yeah." He ran back to where she sat and kissed her cheek and she patted his with her free hand, holding the paper with the other one. Then he took off for school.

In a Deling City apartment, Seifer was lying on a couch in the living room, wearing black jeans and a dark blue long sleeved shirt with his boots still on. He had an arm covering his face not really asleep. Irvine walks through the door and glances at the figure lying there.

"Get up Almasy you got stuff to do." He said taking his hat off. Seifer just groaned and stayed where he was. Irvine walked over to him and hit him with the hat. "I said get up." Seifer groaned again moving his arm from his face. "Wha- why?" "I ran into some folks outside want an interview 'bout the fight last night for the nightly news."

"Ugh do I look like I'm in the mood for questions? Tell them to go away." He pulled the couch pillow from under his head and put it over his face. "There's also some kids out there, want an autograph, and I suggest you get in the mood, go down there and put on a happy face." Irvine put his hat back on and went back out the door.

Seifer sighed loudly and threw the pillow at the closing door, he waited a minute then got up and went to the bathroom. "I hate this stupid shit." He pulled a small bag of white powder out of his pocket and dumped some into his palm then sniffed it up his nostrils. He stood and stared in the mirror putting the bag back then splashed his face with some water and left the building.

He made his way down the elevator and through the main entrance he immediately saw the crowd of people, teens, kids, men and reporters talking to his coach. "Oh boy." He smoothed a hand over his hair and went out the double glass doors.

A reporter turned his gaze on him immediately along with Irvine. "And here's the champ now." Irvine said smiling at him. Seifer did his famous bad boy smirk and took a few steps into the crowd.

"Seifer Seifer what's it like..." "Seifer how did you..." "Hey champ over here can you tell us..." Reporter after reporter calling him shoving microphones and recorders in his face, waiting to write down his every move. Then the crowd of fans began screaming for him and shoving pictures, some he'd never seen before, and papers or whatever else they could get signed in his face. Not to mention bright flashes from all the magazine and paper photographers. "Seifer look over here." SNAP "Smile please." SNAP, FLASH.

"Let me just say being a champion is just like being myself." He answered a reporter while signing pictures and handing them back. "What does that mean exactly?" A woman asked holding out her recorder. "It means I'm just that damn good either way." He said looking into the video camera that one of the reporters had. He signed a few more things with a genuine smile ignoring the rest of their questions.

"Ok ok that's enough the champs got other things to do," Irvine said pushing people away. "Thank ya'll for your time gotta go." He pulled Seifer away from the crowd and towards his car, that he didn't really drive because he couldn't, he pushed Seifer into the drivers seat and went around to the passenger side getting in quickly. The car started and screeched quickly down the street, with people still yelling and snapping or filming.

When the crowd was out of sight he slowed the vehicle. "You did good, keep it up." Seifer looked over at Irvine seat reclined, hands behind his head relaxing. He rolled his eyes and looked back to the road.

"Where are we going anyway?" He asked. Irvine closed his eyes answering. "You're dropping me off at the bar then taking yourself to school." "I don't need to go to school anymore, I'm the champ remember?" "Yeah and if you want it to stay that way I want you in school and out of trouble. Can you imagine what the news would say knowing their big hero was a drop out? Think of the image Seif, the image." Seifer sighed and kept driving towards Deling's bar.
