chapter 11
Seifer walked into Laguna's bar feeling like a new man. "Hey Seifer." A guy at a table said to him. Some other people said some things to him and he gave them some sort of recognition. He strolled over to the bar where Laguna had just come from the back room, hearing Seifer's name.
"What are you doing here Almasy?" He asked with a hint of confusion. "Ah don't tell me you're still upset about before." Seifer said sitting at a stool. "What you mean about you, wrecking my place and harassing my costumers and threatening to burn the place down? Oh of course I'm not upset." Laguna said leaning an elbow on the counter.
"Whatever get me a drink." Seifer said throwing his money on the counter. Laguna took the money and did what he was asked. "Here, now seriously what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be at the arena?" "Yeah maybe if I decide to go." Seifer said and took a sip of his drink.
"What do you mean if? You and Irvine havin' it out again?"
"You could say that. I just needed to get away from there for awhile. He's always goin' off about the same stupid shit and I'm sick of hearing it."
"How can you be sick of something you never listen to?" Laguna asked leaning on both his elbows now staring at Seifer.
"Hey I listen."
"You didn't listen when I said don't come back here." Laguna raised an eyebrow to him and Seifer just smiled back. "I knew you didn't mean it." He finished off his drink and put the glass down. "Free refill?" He said and looked at Laguna hopefully, the other man sighed and took the glass filling it up again.
"So seriously what happened with Kinneas?" Laguna tried again. Seifer sighed and moved the glass from his lips. "He saw my stuff." Laguna's expression went to shock and confusion. "Not that dumb ass the powder. He thought I stopped after the first time he told me to, then he jumps down my throat about it so I left."
"Oh yeah he's a real bad guy," Laguna said sarcastically. "So where is it now?"
"On the floor of the parking garage." Seifer answered nonchalantly. "You really should listen to Irvine about that, it'll ruin you one of these days."
Laguna stood up and went to deal with another customer. "Yeah yeah." Seifer mumbled to himself. He glanced at his watch while taking another drink and slammed the glass down. "Shit, I gotta go." He left the bar quickly. "We'll be watching!" Laguna yelled before Seifer was completely out the door and he waved behind him. When he got outside he hopped on his bike and floored it towards the arena.

Back at the apartment Squall was lying on his bed staring up at the ceiling. His cd had stopped playing and he used the stereo remote to change it to radio. He absent mindedly listened to a woman speaking and his thoughts drifted to Irvine.
'I shouldn't have said anything at all. Can't I Ever leave well enough alone? His problems aren't any of my business anyway.' A song started to play and he turned his head to the radio listening.
….Don't tell me how I had a vision that this day would come to be
Call it luck, call it intuition
Here I am (here we are) isn't that enough for a little bit of reality
Fate is good fate can be real if you believe its what you feel….
'Why did he have to show up again and now of all times when all I should be thinking of is getting Zell to the championship game and winning. Now its the last thing on my mind thanks to him.' He looked back to the ceiling and started reminiscing about when he and Irvine first met.
(It was raining outside in Dollet and Squall was leaving the bar, he went into the street looking for a cab not noticing another man come up beside him. When a cab passed they both waved it down and tried getting in at the same time.
"Do you mind?" Squall asked looking at Irvine, water was running down his face from off his black cowboy hat. Irvine looked down at Squall liking what he saw and began smirking.
"If you want it its yours partner." "Whatever." Squall said. He wanted to get in the cab and leave like the encounter had never happened but he didn't move. Irvine took his hat off to shake away the rain that built up on top of it and when he put it back on he stared at Squall right into his eyes and Squall stared back.)
….Oh what a moment when I looked into your eyes, I knew I got the prize
Oh baby what a sweet surprise….
("If you don't mind we could share it there's plenty of room." Irvine said after a minute Squall got in leaving the door open for Irvine too join him.)
….It only took a minute baby to let you in my life
It only took a minute for me to realize
It only took a minute and I knew just what to do
It only took a minute to fall in love with you….
(When the cab got to Squall's place he got out of the car and paid the fee, Irvine followed him doing the same. He followed Squall all the way to his door.
"What are you doing?" Squall asked unlocking it. "Thought I might come in for a minute." Irvine said leaning against the stair railing that lead up to the door. "Don't you have a home?" Squall asked but not sounding too rude about it.
"Sure I do, its just being occupied at the time is all. So you gonna help a fellow boxing coach out and let me dry off?" Squall turned around and noticed Irvine was staring at his butt and he frowned. They both looked up at the same time catching each others eyes. Irvine couldn't resist smiling at him.
'Damn he's gorgeous if I could just have a few minutes with him...' Irvine thought.
"How did you know I was a coach?" Squall asked interrupting Irvine's thought. "Every body knows that and me well I made it my personal business to know." He walked up the stairs to stand beside Squall using his height difference to make Squall look up at him….. A minute later they were both inside the house drying off with towels Squall brought out and talking.)
'I let you in my life that night and now you'll never leave, I tried denying feeling anything for you but I couldn't lie to myself not then not ever.' Squall thought turning over from his back to his stomach.
….Time and time again boy I've always been the one to think things through
You got a hold of me, set me free….
(Squall took Irvine's towel when he was finished with it and Irvine sat himself on the couch. "You know you're pretty damn good at what you do, you should train more big league guys instead of little nobodies." Irvine said. Squall came and sat beside him, he looked at Irvine annoyance showing on his face but Irvine just kept smiling at him.
"I like the kids I manage." He answered back. "Alright I was just makin' a suggestion. So like-" Before Irvine could finish Squall kissed him pushing Irvine down so his head was on the arm of the chair. He kissed him back both viciously wanting the other. Irvine moved Squall on top of his lap and lifted his knees running his hand down Squall's back.)
….Who would've known that out of the blue I'd discover the magic of all my dreams that night
With just one look at you I knew that everything would be alright......
It only took a minute baby to let you in my life
It only took a minute for me to realize
It only took a minute and I knew just what to do
It only took a minute to fall in love with you….
( Irvine pushed Squall to his back and Squall reached down to undo Irvine's jeans. Irvine pulled away from the kiss and stared at him straight in the eyes. "You sure?" Squall answered by pulling Irvine back into the kiss and......)
Squall's eyes shot open from the loud music that started playing on the radio after the first song ended. He grabbed the remote and turned the radio off. He turned over on to his side and hugged the pillow to himself. He sighed and sniffed trying to hold back the urge to cry. The chorus of the song kept playing in his head. 'It did only take a minute to love you and it took another for me to mess things up..... again.'

At the arena Zell was walking in pushing through the large crowd of people to get a good spot. "Excuse me, watch out, move! please." When he finally made his way to a good spot he sighed and took a seat. Most of the people there were standing and shouting already and making bets or buying food.
'Wish I had their energy right now, I'll just sit till the match actually starts, if it starts....Wow Seifer's got problems well duh Dincht there's no such thing as a perfect life. I wonder where he is now?'
He looked around the room and spotted Irvine standing near the ring talking to the referee.
'Hey there's that Irvine guy, maybe I should talk to him, wait if him and Squall are fighting maybe he won't wanna talk to me. you'll never know unless you go- hey that rhymes'
Zell got up from his seat and made his way over to Irvine and waited patiently for them to stop talking. The referee spotted him first. "Hey kid can I help you?"
"Uh no not really." Zell replied and Irvine turned around. "Hey! I remember you, your Squall's kid, so to speak. Come to watch my champ in action huh?" "Yeah but right now I wanted to talk to you if that's ok?" Zell said nervously.
Irvine looked at the ref and he nodded and Irvine turned back to Zell smiling. He put his arm around the younger boy and walked him to the bathroom. A few guys passed them on their way in. "Hey Irvine how's it goin?" "Can't wait for the game to start." Irvine politely tipped his hat to them.
"So what'd you wanna talk about?" He leaned against the sink and crossed his arms. "Well I- I kinda heard you and Squall talking before and-" "Oh that, look you can't tell anybody about what Seifer's been doing or it'll all be ruined." "No no I won't its not that, I was just- well is everything all right?" Zell asked and started playing on the zipper of his jacket nervously.
Irvine stared at him kind of confused himself. "Yeah every thing's gonna be fine as usual, hey look don't worry about Squall alright we'll work it out and Seifer gods help me." Irvine said. 'I hope it all works out anyway.'
"That's good." Zell said and stopped pulling on his zipper. Suddenly a guy from the arena came in the door. "Hey Kinneas its almost game time lets go." Irvine frowned but waved him off.
"Well time to start thinkin' of excuses. Uh why don't ya'll go and get a seat or somethin' I'll see you later." He said to Zell and he left the bathroom.
"Oh no my seat!" Zell said and he floored it back to where he originally sat but sure enough it was taken. "Fuck, this night can't get any more annoying can it?" He walked off to a corner of the room and stood against the wall with a few other people. The arena was packed and noisy and smelled bad too. There were cameras everywhere and guys with microphones talking into them. Newspaper photographers and writers also roaming about. Zell looked around where he stood and saw banners and makeshift signs all cheering for Seifer and a few for the other competitors.
"Talk about hometown support." Zell said to himself. "Yeah its crazy huh?" A girl next to him said. "Huh?" He turned to see who was talking to him and she waved at him. It was a blonde girl around his age a bit taller than he was and she had her hair up in the strangest style he'd ever seen on a girl.
"Hi I'm Quistis, your Zell Dincht right?" He nodded. "I've seen you around school before, everyone knows the new guys name by the second day but only a few have actually seen you." "Galbadia's nothing like my old school in Balamb." Zell said. "So who are you here for?" She asked. "Well um Seifer I guess." "Typical, its rare someone isn't." Quistis said and huffed out a sigh.
"Why, you don't like him?" Zell asked. "Oh its not that, see well- I don't know if I should tell you this but we used to date- a long time ago though actually last year."
"Really what happened?" 'Great he's into girls' Zell looked away from her until she answered.
"Well it just didn't work he said he wasn't in to me anymore whatever that means." "Oh so who is he in to?" Zell asked cautiously. She stared at him strangely for a minute. "Well no one, I don't think, at least I haven't heard anything since we broke up."
They both turned their attention to the ring when the lights suddenly dimmed and a spotlight shown on the announcer standing in the center of the ring. "Ladies and gentlemen tonight we have another special live broadcast of the match to determine which fighter will make it one step closer to being world champion!," Cheers and shouts went up. "What makes tonight so special is that our very own Deling City champion is going to be in the ring tonight!"
"Woo!" "Yeah Seifer!!!"
........................................
Seife r ran into the apartment building and floored it to the elevator. When it opened he ran to his door and tried opening it but it was locked. He clumsily fished his key out of his pocket, unlocked the door and pushed it open.
Not bothering to look for Irvine he ran to his room and grabbed his gloves and mouth guard then ran back out of, down the elevator and to the door putting his gloves on.
"Hey tie this for me?" He said to the doorman and the man happily smiled and did what he asked. "Tighter!" Seifer shouted and the man did. After making sure the gloves where on to his liking Seifer patted the guys back as a thanks and left.
"Good luck!" The doorman called behind him.
'Yeah right.' He put his mouth guard in and hopped on the still running motorcycle and sped off to the arena weaving between cars and other vehicles.
........................................
"The match will begin in a matter of moments folks." The announcer continued. A man with a camera guy climbed into the ring. "Alright we're about to start broadcasting in 5 4 3 2...." After that the guy with the mic started talking into the camera. The camera guy swerved around to get a shot of the crowd and the arena.
"I don't even see Seifer." Quistis said looking around. 'Hope he's coming.' Zell thought as he looked over to where Irvine was standing near the ring in the coaches spot. He looked nervous and sick at the same time.
'Come on Almasy don't do this to me, don't let me down' Irvine thought and he looked around nervously then pulled out his cell phone. He listened to it ring and then heard the answering machine pick up.
"Howdy you've reached resident evil please leave- damnit Irvine say something better than that- will you get off the fuckin' thing- let me do it. Ehem we're here right now but won't be when you hear this- that's stupid Seifer I told you I'd do- (beep)"
Irvine smiled remembering the day they first got that apartment together and recorded the message. "Shit." He put the phone back and remembered something even more important the match was about to begin and Seifer wasn't there either.
"Hey Kinneas where is he its almost game time?" The ref asked and Irvine looked up trying to put on a smile. "He'll be here soon just give him a minute." "He'd better be cowboy or your both disqualified for missing a match." "Yeah yeah." The ref went back to the ring and Irvine groaned loudly and pulled his hat over his head.
.........................................
Seifer was waiting at a stop light only minutes away from the arena if he hurried. It seemed like the light was taking forever to change. 'Fuck,' He didn't have a clock so he couldn't tell how much time he had left.
He looked around again as a car passed in front of him. He glanced down the street and everything was clear. 'Just do it.' He told himself , he glanced at the light it was still on red after hesitating he pushed down on the pedal and started going through it. Out of the corner of his eye he saw a light coming beside him and he turned to see a car speeding at him they beeped their horn but it was too late he was already moving. 'Shit!'
........................................
" What's taking so long we wanna see a fight!" Someone from the crowd shouted. "Yeah what's goin on?"
Zell started getting worried too remembering what he heard a few hours ago from Irvine.
("He's doin' drugs Squall and not your typical drinks and smokes......" "He ran out just awhile ago because I caught him with it." "I don't know where he goes when I'm not around.")
'Seifer's doing drugs and he's out somewhere probably still angry. Hope he's alright.'
Zell looked back to where Irvine was standing but he'd moved into the ring now talking with the TV guy. "So Irvine I've heard word that Seifer hasn't shown up are you worried?" Irvine looked into the camera his expression just as nonchalant as ever.
"Well you know him likes to keep the people waiting." Irvine said trying to stay positive. "Yes but what if he doesn't show? Do you think he'll be out of the running for world championship?" "Uh we'll see." Irvine said. "Ok folks there you have it from the coach himself. Where is Seifer Almasy? because from the looks of it this match is about to begin with or without him." The camera guy turned his attention to the ring where the announcer was ready to speak.
Irvine the TV guy and camera man left the ring and the announcers mic came down.
"Hey Kinneas looks like your guy chickened out." The coach of the other fighter yelled to him. "Fuck you." Irvine called back. "He'll be here." 'I hope'
"Alright we're about to begin ladies and gentlemen. In this corner we have long time fighter known through the region of Dollet as Big Bad Braaaad!!!!!" The crowd cheered and some booed as the fighter stepped into the ring. The ref hesitated looking over at Irvine in Seifer's corner. "And in this corner we have long time boxing legend, he fights to win and does, he's the one the only.............."
Suddenly the ref gets drowned out by a loud drowning sound of an engine. Everyone in the arena turned their heads and cameras towards the entrance seeing Seifer drive in on his motorcycle to the center of the room.
"Whoa ho! S-Seifer Fucking Almasy my gods people." The announcer shouted. The crowd roars and Irvine's face lit up. Seifer stands on the motorcycle and steps into the ring. Irvine runs over to him and helps him pull his shirt off.
"You fucking prick I can't- I'm gonna kill you later." "Yeah right." Seifer mumbled through the mouth guard. Irvine took his shirt and got back into the coaches spot.
The bell dinged and the fight began. In the crowd the noise was crazy and Zell was near faint at what he'd just saw. "Oh what a show off." Quistis said. "Yeah and he's one hell of a sight to see." Zell said quietly to himself.
