Chapter 21

"Drinks all around!" Seifer said as he and Irvine walked into Laguna's bar. They made their way to the bar and sat at the counter. "Someone's in a good mood." Laguna said, he was cleaning out glasses behind the counter. "Yup passed my drug test today," Seifer said reaching into a bowl of beer nuts that were in front of him. "and I'm gonna go to that match Friday and win." He added "Even though we had to pull some strings to get it that way." Irvine said. "So what'll it be celebrants?" "Beers all around," Seifer said and Irvine gave him a questioning look. "Except for me I'll have a root beer." He said solemnly. "Drinks all around comin' up." Laguna said and he went to work filling up glasses.

"Hey Seifer, we'll be at the game Friday routin' for ya." A young man about his age said. "Yeah you all better be, you too Laguna." "I'll be there with bells on." He said giving them their drinks. Then he took a tray of beers to the others in the bar.

"So what about that kid you were with the other night?" Laguna asked returning to the bar. Seifer froze mid drink he dropped the glass. "What about him?" "Oh you know, did he get home alright? You two seemed awfully buddy buddy before I thought he might be here celebrating with you again."

"He's fine." Seifer said plainly returning the look that Irvine was giving him. He knew Zell wasn't fine but there was really nothing he could do about that now, he said what he had to and that was that. Now he had to concentrate on the game ahead.

"Watch the news tonight, you might see us." Irvine said breaking the silence that had formed in the room. "Oh yeah what were they harassing you about this time?" Laguna asked. "Nothin' much, test results more questions about the drugs. We handled it though." "I'm sure you did." Laguna said with a hint of sarcasm. "So you guys stayin' for dinner?" He asked. Irvine looked up at the clock above the bar not realizing how much time had passed since they'd left the clinic. "Might as well ain't like we got anything at home." He said.

The coach looked at Seifer who seemed deep in thought staring at the bubbles in his drink. "Hey is it ok if we eat here?" Irvine asked breaking his concentration. "What? yeah whatever." the boxer answered back half heartedly. "Alright then just give us the usual." Irvine said to Laguna. The bar tender nodded and went back into the kitchen.

Irvine turned to Seifer with concern at first just watching the absent minded boy stare into his glass. "Its getting to ya ain't it?" He said finally and Seifer looked at him. "What is?"

"Don't play dumb. You're thinking about that kid aren't you and what you did to him." Seifer rolled his eyes and sat up turning away from Irvine and the bar looking over a group of men playing pool. "Ya know its just gonna eat away at you unless you apologize and explain to him what happened." Seifer continued to ignore the other man and took a drink of his root beer.

"Alright be stubborn but when game time rolls around and you still haven't fixed things with him you won't be able to concentrate and your opponents will see that and use it as a weakness," Irvine said then he leaned close to Seifer's ear and whispered. "then you'll lose." He moved away from the taller man and went back to his own drink waiting for their food.

Even though he'd never admit it out loud Seifer knew Irvine was right. He'd been thinking about Zell since they left the clinic but he did his best to hide it. Now after what Laguna had said about them seeming buddy buddy before got to him. It was true that night he did have more fun than he'd ever had with anyone else. He enjoyed Zell's company and liked having someone else with sort of the same problems to listen to him. 'Now I pushed him away because of my stupid insecurities and fear. I wanna fix it but I don't know how' He squeezed the glass in his hand trying not get frustrated with the situation anymore. He set the glass down on the counter and stood to leave the bar.

"Hey where ya goin'?" Irvine asked. "I don't know I'll see you back at the apartment." He said and left the bar but not taking the car keys. It wasn't so much that Irvine didn't know how to drive he was just really bad at it. So he left them there anyway so the other man could get home.

"What happened to Almasy?" Laguna asked bringing out the food. "Who knows, just when I think I'm getting' somewhere with the boy he turns around and closes up on me again." "At least you got him to go clean." Laguna said patting Irvine's shoulder. "Yeah there's that." He said feeling a little better and started in on his food.

E ven though Deling City was always in a shadow of darkness you could still see a burning red sky to the west where the sun was nearly finished setting. Seifer found himself walking towards the gym in the cold chill of the autumn air. He had his hands in the pockets of his jacket, wishing he'd had his warmer trench coat with him. He also wished he had a cigarette too but a promise was a promise and that was the one thing he never went back on. Which is why he never usually made them to begin with.

He sighed heavily staring at the air from his mouth and kept going trying not to think about the other night. Every now and then someone called to him from the streets and he gave them a polite wave or nod hoping they wouldn't wanna talk.

By the time he'd gotten to the gym it was dark and the place was near closing. He pushed the glass doors open and the owner gave him a look then went back to rolling up the work out mats. Seifer walked over to the man and stood by watching. "Troubles Almasy?" The man asked. Seifer sighed "Yeah, I need to borrow the place for a few hours." "Its all yours just remember to lock up when you leave unless the janitors here then he'll do it." "Thanks." he told the man and went to the locker rooms for some boxing equipment.

.................................................
< br> Back at the bar Irvine had moved himself to an empty table in the back to eat alone. Seifer wasn't the only one thinking about man troubles. It was hard for Irvine having to ignore Squall when they were at the clinic. He knew he should have went over and said something at least to clear the air and let Squall know they were still friends. It was just harder than he thought because how he felt about the other man.

'I can't keep waitin' around for Squall to make up his mind. One minute he's all over me the next he's pushing me away.' He sighed and took a drink from his refilled glass of beer.

'Now he's brought his little partner with him messing with Seifer's life. I just don't get it since when did boxing turn into a soap opera?' He thought to himself.

He stared off into space pondering all the questions plaguing his mind hoping he'd find some kind of answer. 'Gods Squall I just wanna be with you' He said as if the man was sitting right in front of him like that night they'd gone to the restaurant.

I wanna be with you
There's nothing more to say
There's nothing else I want more than to feel this way..........

When Zell and Squall got back to the apartment things had been really quiet between them. Squall closed himself up in his room and Zell did the same trying not think about Seifer. It was a lost cause because that's all he did. He stared for hours at the newspaper clipping. He stared hard hoping it'd give him some kind of explanation as to why the Seifer he knows in person is acting the way he is. When nothing came to him he got frustrated and decided to take a walk.

He left a short note for Squall and left the apartment. He'd been walking for sometime now and didn't even realize he'd found his way to the city gym. It seemed like only yesterday he'd been here at night. Looking through the doors seeing a few people still inside working out. Only this time the place was empty but the lights were still on. He figured the janitor or owner must be inside somewhere so he went in.

'I'll just ask whoever's here if I can stay awhile' He told himself entering the quiet building. He walked inside and still didn't see anyone until the owner came from outside a room behind the juice bar. He paused seeing the little blond and smiled at him. "Looks like this place is pretty popular for stray boxers tonight." The man said.

Zell's face scrunched in confusion at the comment but he ignored it. "Is it ok if I stay awhile, I just need to work out some problems you know." Zell said his voice not even hiding his misery. The man made a sympathetic face and nodded.

"Sure just make sure to lock up if your the last one." The owner dug into his pocket and took out an extra key handing it to Zell. "Can I trust you?" He asked and Zell nodded sincerely. The man dropped the key into his hand and patted his shoulder before leaving the gym.

When he got outside there was a woman waiting for him on the side of the building. Zell hadn't noticed the person following him because he'd been too deep in thought.

"Excuse me sir, do you own this gym?" The dark haired woman asked. The man turned a little startled. "Oh hello ma'am yes I do. Can I help you?" He asked smiling at the woman. "Well I'm a local reporter and I noticed a few boxers going in there and thought I might interview them for a minute. Would it be ok?" Rinoa asked giving the best smile she could to the man.

"Well I don't know they seemed like they'd wanna be alone but I don't know you can go in and ask I guess there's no harm in that." The owner said. "Oh thank you that'd be great." She shook the mans hand and waited for him to leave. "I won't stay long I promise." She reassured him and he nodded going into a door that was beside her, it lead to his small apartment above the gym.

"That was easy." She said to herself. Then she made sure her camera had film in it and went inside the building.

.................................................
Zell sighed and stuck the key in his pants pocket. He walked towards the back of the gym wondering who else could be there at this time of night. He was about to go into the locker room when he heard sounds from the boxing area. He remembered being there himself the first night they'd moved into the city. The first night he'd met Seifer Almasy.

Best night of his life next to last night but now he wasn't sure about that. He went past the room where the woman had been working out that first day, the song they were listening to popped into his head for a minute but he shook it out.

When he got to the room he looked in and saw Seifer, just as he had when he'd left that night after they met. Shirtless and suited up to box. Only he wasn't using the bags, he was fighting the large plastic dummy shaped like a man. It was black and white with glowing red eyes.

His heart suddenly stopped and he felt a wave of sadness come over him. 'I wonder if he's here to blow off steam or think. Maybe he feels bad about what happened and just couldn't tell me then. Yeah that must be it.' He told himself feeling a little better he decided to go inside and talk to Seifer.

'I'm not gonna be like Squall and sit around waiting. I'm just gonna go up to him and make him tell me what's going on.'

Seifer hit the dummy hard with every punch. He was getting out the anger he'd had for himself, for not knowing how to deal with Zell and he was mad at Zell for letting it happen. 'Why couldn't he have just turned me down its not that hard. He should have known this was gonna happen, I should have known.' "Ah fuck!" He punched the dummy so hard the head flew off and hit the wall behind it. "Shit." He hissed out just getting angrier. He walked over to the wall and picked the head up when he turned back to the dummy body he saw Zell standing not too far away.

He froze for a minute not sure what he felt from seeing him but quickly let the feeling go and went to the dummy as if Zell wasn't there.

"Nice shot, I hope that wasn't meant for me." Zell said slowly walking over to where Seifer was trying to fix the head on the body. "What are you doing here?" Seifer asked not looking at the other boy.

"I was just walking and stopped in, the owner said it was alright." He watched Seifer twist the head on and smash it down. When he was finished he looked up at Zell for a second then walked past him going to the large punching bag. Zell bit his bottom lip and gathered up his courage and walked over to where Seifer was again.

"You can't keep ignoring me, we're obviously gonna keep running into each other." He said trying to keep his ground. Which was hard enough to do on its own but now he had to try keeping his hormones in check as well. "What do you want?" Seifer asked never taking his attention from the bag.

"I wanna talk, I want you to tell me why you're treating me like some one night nothing." He said the hurt in his voice was coming through and Seifer heard it. He stopped punching and put his head down. "Its nothing personal ok." He'd hope Zell would take that and leave but the little blond was persistent.

"Then what was it? if not personal. I thought we had a good time last night and now you're acting like this. I don't get it." He said stepping a little closer. "Of course you don't get it, there's nothing to get alright. Just go home." Seifer said turning towards Zell now.

"You're lying and I know it. Just tell me what I did wrong and I'll leave you alone." He pleaded. Seifer sighed and started leaving the room, Zell followed him into the weight room.

Seifer turned around stopping Zell in his tracks before he smacked into the taller man. "Look its not your fault ok I just- I don't know alright." "What's there to know? Seifer I- I like you alot and that night I was really happy because I thought you liked me too."

Seifer was quiet and sat himself on the bench press leaning his back against the cold leather. The machine was in the upright sitting position but slightly reclined. He placed his gloved hands over his face and sighed. "You know you're gonna miss out on a lot if you brush me off now," Zell said and he got as close to Seifer as he could.

"We could have been more than friends you know I could give you more than you know." He said his voice getting lower. He wasn't sure what he was doing but he knew he had to do it. He'd try anything at this point to get Seifer to reconsider.

He pulled Seifer's hands away from his face and put his lips to his. Seifer knew this wasn't right- its the reason he was in this situation in the first place, but he let the small boxer kiss him. Zell didn't know what his actions would do but he wasn't going to stop now. He stuck his tongue in Seifer's mouth making the kiss his. When he pulled away Seifer was left breathless. Zell stared into the sea colored eyes and then kissed Seifer's sweaty neck then moved down to his chest. He placed his hands on Seifer's hips then rubbed them across his waist line sliding his fingers inside the loose fitting pants.

Seifer did nothing but breathe out slowly and watch. Zell left a trail of wet kisses down Seifer's chest and his mouth made its way to Seifer's now showing erection. He undid his pants and without a second thought pulled out the hot flesh. He had to stop himself a minute and revel in the feel of the package. It was more than he'd expected and feeling all of Seifer's girth brought him back to the night he'd been filled with it. 'Can't stop now, I can do this.' He said to himself and he dived in first taking in Seifer's tip and biting down on it gently.

Seifer lied his back against the machine and held on to the side of the seat with his still gloved hands. Zell ran his tongue down the back of the shaft then up the top of it, sending shivers through Seifer's body. He took the whole thing in and began sucking him off. Neither of them aware of the small flashing light in the background. There a shocked reporter took her pictures excited about the news she could generate with it.
