I Do
(A/N: I hope you like this chapter. It will be very exciting and sweet and somewhat emotional. I love Union Ceremonies. :) I have been to several over the years. They are kind of like a wedding but in my opinion more personal. Enjoy!)
It is a beautiful summer morning in this normally sleepy little town. The bed and breakfast known as “Enchanted Manor” is full of the hustle and bustle of workers, caterers, planners, ushers, valets, chefs, photographers and countless other people preparing for the event of the season. Tables and chairs have been placed out on the open veranda; the gazebo is decorated in soft blues and bright whites. Soft classical music is played across a gentle summer breeze. This is how most wedding ceremonies go. But this is not the case for this particular day…
“God damnit Tseng! You better get your ass here soon! If you don’t then I will just have to start this shit without you. Fuck, tell Elena to hurry her damn ass up! She aint the one getting hitched!”
Cloud couldn’t help but laugh at the antics of his lover. Today was the day of their union ceremony and Reno was a bundle of nerves. Reeve was two minutes behind us but because he is officianating the ceremony, he was the first to feel Reno’s wrath. The next person surprisingly enough was Cloud. The poor blonde really had done nothing wrong except happen to mention that Reno had forgotten to fix his hair and put on his tie. Oh well…
“Reno, you need to calm down. I promise Tseng will be here on time. We still have a few hours before everything starts. Just relax.” Cloud reached over and gave his anxious lover a soft kiss. “Everything will be fine love. Just a few more hours and then we can leave for the honeymoon. And I for one can’t wait.” A few hours later and everyone that would be attending the private ceremony, was seated. Reeve stood in front of Cloud and Reno and spoke in a soft and cheerful voice. “Ladies and gentlemen we are here today to unite these two souls. Over the years this planet has seen a lot of bloodshed and sadness, and we have all shed many tears. Finally, after so much sadness we have reason to celebrate. Elation and happiness fill the hearts and minds of those present here today as we all witness love at work. Normally, tradition would dictate that we start with the reading of a prayer and work our way into vows. There is nothing traditional about this ceremony. First we will begin with the blood bond. This will represent the everlasting bond of love and trust in one another.” Reeve hands a ceremonial dagger to first Cloud, who then places a small cut in the palm of his hand then hands the dagger to Reno who does the same. “Now join hands and repeat after me. “Flesh to flesh, blood to blood…” After the bonding was complete it was time to exchange the vows. “Vows are the spoken testament of love between two people. They are always from the heart and represent the spoken contract of the union. Upon the request of both parties involved, the vows were exchanged in private early this morning. So we will stick to traditional union vows. Do you Cloud take Reno to be your partner for as long as life allows?” “I do…” “And you Reno, do you take Cloud to be your partner for as long as life allows?” “I do…” “We will now exchange the rings. May I have the rings please?” Tseng handed the rings over to Reeve and smiled at his friends. Reeve handed the rings over to the couple and continued. “Cloud, take this ring and slip it onto Reno’s hand; Reno, take the ring you have and slip it onto Cloud’s hand.”
The rings were exchanged and now Reno was grinning ear to ear. His favorite part was coming up. “By the power vested in me I no announce you Cloud and Reno, eternal partners. Go ahead Reno, do your thing!” The crowd erupted in laughter and then awed as Reno took Cloud into his arms and gave him a passionate kiss. When the two finally parted for air everyone cheered. Everyone began to make their way into 7th Heaven for the reception. There was music and laughter. People were dancing and talking and for once in their lives truly happy. The entire town had shown up for the festivities bringing all varieties of food and drink. Reno stood at the bar talking with Tifa and Cid about random things, and looked over at Cloud only to break out in a giggle fit. Cloud was dancing with Marlene and she was standing on her tip-toes atop his boots. What made this scene funny though, was the fact that Marlene had placed a pink feathery tiara atop Cloud’s head just in time for Barrett to take a picture.
“Good one Spikey! This one’s going in the album!” Once again the room was filled with laughter at the slight blush on Cloud’s smiling face. Reno stepped over beside the bar and took Tifa’s hand. “Care to dance Mrs. ShinRa? That is, if your new husband doesn’t mind me taking you away for a moment?” The two shared a short laugh and joined Cloud and Marlene on the dance floor. After a few dances and a few drinks the couple said their goodbyes and took to Cloud’s motorcycle.
They road in comfortable silence for a few hours until they reached Reno’s personal helicopter which was a wedding gift from Rufus.
“Are you going to tell me where it is we are going Reno?”
“Nope. You just have to wait until we get there babe. It’s a surprise.”
They boarded the helicopter and Reno ran through his preflight check list and confirmed with the tower his flight plans before taking off. Cloud began drifting off to sleep as he watched the sun set beside them. He was extremely tired; after all it had been a very busy and exciting day. The soft thud of the rotor blades and the quiet hum of the white noise over the head phones worked as a lullaby and he was soon in a light sleep.
