Chapter 3 - Recovery
Nephenee awoke.
She started to look around, and noticed she was in the medical tent.
Nephenee awoke.
She started to look around, and noticed she was in the medical tent.
I shouldn't be here…
She tried to stand up, but the pain of the wound overwhelmed her, and she flopped back to the bed.
Someone had heard her get up, and was pushing back the flap of the small cubicle she was in.
Rhys entered, a small yellow bottle in his hand.

Rhys entered, a small yellow bottle in his hand.
“Ah. You're finally awake, I see.”
Nephenee looked at him, with both shock and bewilderment on her face.
”Rhys? What happened? Oh…right…”
Nephenee winced at both the pain of her wounds, and at the fact that her former friend had tried to kill her.
”Rhys? What happened? Oh…right…”
Nephenee winced at both the pain of her wounds, and at the fact that her former friend had tried to kill her.
Rhys moved over to Nephenee's side, and sat down on the stool by her bed.
”I don't know what would drive him to attack one of his former friends, but at least you're not dead.”
”I don't know what would drive him to attack one of his former friends, but at least you're not dead.”
Nephenee turned her head at that.
Beside her, she saw her armor and lance on the table beside her bed.
”I should have done. I feel so embarrassed.”

”I should have done. I feel so embarrassed.”
Rhys sighed.
”Nephenee. Second only to Ike, you are the strongest warrior in this army. Mustering up the energy to get up and attack after taking wound like that is no easy task. At all.”

Behind him, Nephenee saw the flap to her cubicle move again, and another figure walked through.
“Nephenee!”
Lyre ran over to Nephenee's bed, and flung her arms around Nephenee.
”I'm so glad you're alive…”
”I'm so glad you're alive…”
Nephenee winced again, as much as she appreciated the affection, it hurt.
“Lyre. Thank you…umm. You can let go now…”
Lyre broke away from Nephenee, blushing a bright scarlet.
”Sorry.”
Nephenee stared at her for a bit, until Rhys interrupted.
”Nephenee.”
Lyre broke away from Nephenee, blushing a bright scarlet.
”Sorry.”
Nephenee stared at her for a bit, until Rhys interrupted.
”Nephenee.”
Nephenee's gaze switched from Lyre's face, to the small bottle in Rhys' hand.
“You need to drink this. It will help heal your wounds.”
Nephenee reached out, and took the bottle.
She took the small stopper out, and sniffed the yellow liquid inside.
It was a mixture of a herby and a flowery scent.

Lyre pulled up a second chair beside Nephenee, and sat down.
“Just drink it, It doesn't taste that bad, and, besides, we're all worried about you, Neph.”
A small smile crept across Nephenee's face.
She lifted the bottle to her lips, and downed the herby mixture in one.
Rhys smiled.
”See? That wasn't so hard.”
Nephenee smirked.
”No…not really…”
A small smile crept across Nephenee's face.
She lifted the bottle to her lips, and downed the herby mixture in one.
Rhys smiled.

Nephenee smirked.
”No…not really…”
She turned to look at Lyre again.
”What happened after I went down?”
”What happened after I went down?”
Lyre turned her head to the floor and swallowed.
”Well after you…you…” A small tear rolled itself down her cheek, but she continued.
”I called out to Ike, who came over to you. Within the next few seconds, Rhys was at your side.”
At this, Rhys smiled.
”He did the fastest heal I've ever seen. Everyone was so…I was so…I thought I'd lose you…”
Rhys interrupted.
”Even Shinon was worried. And you know Shinon. That's a huge achievement.”

Nephenee stared at Rhys in disbelief.
”Even…Shinon?”
”Even…Shinon?”
Rhys grinned.
”Yes. Even Shinon.”
”Yes. Even Shinon.”
Nephenee grinned back.
“Wow. I always thought his tongue was as sharp as my lance, but I'd never guessed HE could be kind.”
Nephenee flinched as her wounds pulsed with pain.
Nephenee flinched as her wounds pulsed with pain.
“Gaah…”
Lyre stood up in a flash.
”NEPH!”
”Lyre, I'm fine, it just, argh, hurts.”
”NEPH!”
”Lyre, I'm fine, it just, argh, hurts.”
Rhys reached under Nephenee's bed, and pulled out a crooked staff.
The end glowed blue, and Nephenee felt some of her pain relieved.
Rhys replaced the staff, and started to walk out of the tent.
Nephenee called to him.
”Wait! Where are you going?”

Rhys replaced the staff, and started to walk out of the tent.
Nephenee called to him.
”Wait! Where are you going?”
“To battle. We're hoping to hit the Beginon Forces hard today.”
Nephenee tried to stand up again, but as before, she succumbed to the pain of her wounds, and fell to the bed.
“I should be out there fighting…”
Rhys turned, and for the first time, Nephenee heard Rhys had an edge in his voice.
”No. Nephenee, your wounds need time to heal. There's only so much staves and vulneraries can do.”
Nephenee sighed and rolled over on the bed.

Nephenee sighed and rolled over on the bed.
Rhys turned his attention to Lyre.
”Would you mind sitting this battle out? We need someone here to look after our patient.” His usual soft tone was back in his voice.
”Sure.”
”Thanks. I'll tell Commander Ike.”

With that, Rhys walked out of the tent.
Nephenee sighed.
”Well…if I'm gonna be here…Lyre. Tell me a little bit about yourself…”
Nephenee sighed.
