Kyoto Bus Trip

Why were they here? Naota stood at a bus station in the pouring rain. But, he wasn't alone. Haruko and two other girls stood with him. Who were they? How did they end up out here? Let's back up some, shall we?

-Three Hours Earlier-

The house became packed. It started off with Naota and his family. They had a writer renting a room to work for a couple of days. And of course, Haruko came back. Naota's dad and grandfather fond over the alien. The young man rolled his eyes. Haruko would wink and steal little glances at Naota. The boy couldn't help but blush. How long would they play this game? He had a guess…

Around ten in the morning, there was a knock on the door.

“Who's that?” Haruko asked.

“I don't know,” Kamon said, trying to grope her breasts. The alien woman slapped away his hand. Kamon whimpered like a hurt puppy. More knocking came on the door. Naota rolled his eyes.

“I'll get it,” he said. The boy got up and walked over to the door.

“Who is it?” he asked. A faint groan came from outside. He quickly opened the door. A girl about Haruko's age staggered around, trying to stand straight. Her long black hair made her skin paler. She trembled as she clutched her wrist. Naota looked at her dirty jeans.

“Can I help you?” he asked. The girl gave him a blank stare. Her lips moved as if to answer.

“What?” Naota asked. “Are you okay?” The girl fell all dramatic.

“Oh crap!” the boy yelled. “Somebody help!” Naota paused when he saw a little girl staring at him. Her big grey eyes made him shiver.

--------

The men got the older girl into the house. Now, she sat up, grinning.

“Thanks!” she said. Naota and Haruko sat blinking.

“Who are you?” the boy asked. The new girl gave him a cat-like grin.

“I'm Mayuka!” she said.

“And her?” Haruko asked. She pointed over to the little girl sitting next to her. Mayuka turned her head.

“Huh? Oh,” she said. The boy and alien stared at the pale girl, confused.

“You don't know?” Naota asked. “Wasn't she with you?”

“No,” Mayuka said. The boy blinked.

“What's your name?” Haruko asked. The little girl pointed to the right side of her orange hoodie.

“Minako?” the alien asked. “Okay.” She noticed Mayuka staring at her.

“What?” Haruko asked. The girl poked her cheek.

“Weird,” she said.

“Huh?” the other girl asked. Mayuka sat back with her arms folded across her chest.

“Weird and boring,” she added. A plus-cross appeared on Haruko's head.

“What did you say?” she asked. Mayuka smirked as she look over at Naota.

“Hey cutie,” she said. The boy gave her an odd look.

“Oi!” Haruko snapped. “Back off!” The other girl raised her eyebrow.

“Why?” she asked. The alien girl gritted her teeth.

“He's mine,” she hissed.

“Nope,” Mayuka said. “He's mine.”

“Ta-kun's mine!” Haruko snapped.

“No, he's mine!”

“Mine!”

“Mine!”

“Mine!”

“Mine!”

“Mine!”

Naota looked back and forth, confused. Okay… How did this happen? The argument bloomed into a shouting match. It seemed to go on forever until…

Slam!

The girls and the boy turned to see the writer standing in the doorway of her rented room, glaring at them. She had money in her hand, pointing out the front door.

-Now-

Naota looked at the girls. Haruko and Mayuka looked already to kill each other. Minako was just there. The boy shook his head.

“Now what?” he asked. The bus pulled up at the stop. Naota and the girls quietly walked on.

“Where to?” the driver asked.

“Kyoto!” Haruko said. Naota paid for the tickets. Once they took their seats, the bus rolled away. Naota looked out the window with a sinking feeling.

(What could possibly go wrong? We will have to see.)

Meanwhile, a young woman dressed in black watched Naota and the girls. A twinkle appeared in her right eye.
